to eat the same breakfast and lunch every single day?

I didn't realise it was weird until a colleague pointed it out. Disclaimer - the colleague is a friend, we were just chatting - she wasn't criticising!

Every week I pot up 5 lots of overnight oats (literally just oats and a spoon of trail mix) and have 1 a day for breakfast

I cook a chicken on a Sunday and have a chicken, pease pudding and stuffing sandwich every day for lunch.

I use the rest of the chicken in a family meal, sometimes dh will make himself a sandwich with it.

I've been doing this for about 2 years straight. Every single work day - never given it a thought!

How weird am I?

I go through phases of having the same thing every day, but then I get sick of it and never want to see it again. My thing at the moment is skate wing fried in butter with capers. Totally obsessed and would every day if I could afford it.
I never ever eat breakfast, so I guess that's the same every day too.
There's something comforting about having something you like that's familiar, and if you are work you don't want the stress of trying something new and realising you hate it. Wasted lunch break, wasted money and still hangry!
So no, I don't think you are weird. I've not tried pease pudding, is it like mushy peas? I love those : )

Pease pudding is like a savoury porridge, but a bit yellower.

I loved it. Especially with gravy.

They had it in the old days (16th century) before potatoes had been brought to our shores from Latin America.

I’m surprised your overnight oats haven’t turned to concrete by Friday, if you’re making them so far in advance of eating them - surely they’ve blown up so much, started to dry out and lost all texture by Friday? And similarly, I can’t stomach the idea of eating dried up chicken cooked six days earlier, even if it isn’t going to poison me by that time.

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 15:52

@moonshine a large from Tesco - always on offer for about £4 odd

Another decision I don't need to make- it lives on the Alexa shopping list 😄

@WinterMarchesOn nooooo - I just pot them up on a Sunday! I add the milk the night before if I remember, or on the morning if I don't

They're the same whichever - not sure why they need to erm, marinade over night?!

@LightSwerve Interesting! To be honest, I’ve only had it once when I was in Northumberland en route to Scotland. When I had it, it was more like daal in consistency.

BobbyBiscuits · 20/01/2024 15:55

Thanks @penjil - Interesting. I don't know why I thought it would be like mushy peas. I might try it with roast chicken.
But tonight will be skate wing (again! lol)

soupfiend · 20/01/2024 15:56

When I have weeks of overnight oats I make about 4 or 5 portions at a time, they're fine on the 5th day

Fannyannie · 20/01/2024 15:57

Have the same breakfast every day , greek yogurt , flaked almonds , berries ( frozen ones )

Very often the same wholemeal sandwich and filling. Or an egg based lunch instead.

Always have something different for dinner every night though.

I guess I’m weird. I’m ok with that!

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 16:00

I'm 100 % sticking with the chicken - it's filling. I may branch out from the sandwich though. Salad takes too long to eat though so I'd need to think of what to put with it!

The chicken and stuffing every day is normal. Pease pudding in a sandwich is just bizarre.

DragonFly98 · 20/01/2024 16:04

Also you need to eat the chicken within 72 hours of cooking it so not on the Thursday or Friday lunch time.

@IMustDoMoreExercise Mark Zuckerberg would not be my justification for doing anything.

Yep, not a nice guy, but he is high profile.

DillDanding · 20/01/2024 16:07

Don’t you find it boring?

PS - I have had to google pease pudding!

onestepfromgrace · 20/01/2024 16:10

Oh I could just eat a chicken, stuffing and pease pudding sandwich, please tell me you have it with butter in nice bread. I would probably swap the pp for cranberries every other day for a change. Does the chicken go in the middle or do you put the stuffing with the pp? I also want 6 dresses with pockets, do you have a link @NorthernGirlie

Snowpaw · 20/01/2024 16:12

I have the same breakfast every day (two eggs cooked in butter and a coffee) - and I don't find it boring. Sometimes I have fruit with it or avocado. But the staple part of it remains the same every day.

For lunch I like different things. I crave variety at lunch. Also I wouldn't trust 5 day old cooked meat.

onestepfromgrace · 20/01/2024 16:13

I tell you what else I like pease pudding in, my home made vegetable soup, a chunk of PP thickens it when served and tastes delish.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 20/01/2024 16:13

Interesting thread I’m a nurse and work long shifts - not every day.
Definitely go through “phases” with food. Not fussy as such but comfortable with a smallish range of foods.
one phase was 1-2 slices of toast made as I walk out the door.
days off: kefir, granola, several fruits.
main dinner very often jacket potato. do buy ready meals 3 times a week approx but the ‘healthy’ range and add things like cherry tomatoes.
if not eaten much in the day I’ll consciously try to add some nutrition/protein.
Typically nuts, cheese slices (another regular phase). Maybe muller rice type snack. Colleagues laugh in a nice way at my cheese habit.
I do fully accept it’s not optimum nurturing but like a pp said if I didn’t take something then I might not have anything (many times have gone to supermarket stared at the sandwiches etc and not wanted anything) - or ended up with chocolate.
I try to limit McDonalds type food to once a week maximum.

Big Chicken GIF

OMG what is the size of your chicken that you can do 5 sandwiches, a family meal and even some left over for your husband?

Nomorecoconutboosts · 20/01/2024 16:15

Oh and yes my role is non uniform. Many days I wear a version of either an ironed shirt or soft long sleeved T-shirt with black jeggings or jeans. Practical and comfortable and less laundry… I do launder it all regularly

The famous MN chicken.

I was waiting for this 😂😂😂

Planesmistakenforstars · 20/01/2024 16:17

OMG what is the size of your chicken that you can do 5 sandwiches, a family meal and even some left over for your husband?

It's the famous mumsnet-sized chicken.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 20/01/2024 16:18

My dad has had the same breakfast every day for pretty much 70 years. Shredded wheat. He has it every day if he’s home, but it’s different if he’s on holiday.

He isn’t at all bored of it. We do think he’s neurodiverse though, just as an aside.

Etoile41 · 20/01/2024 16:18

How do you manage to get the chicken go stretch so far? Family of 5 here and we would need 2 large chickens and maybe, if lucky may have enough chicken for 1 sandwich

ExtremelyJoyous · 20/01/2024 16:19

Yes I do this, quite normal I thought.

Also I live on my one and cooking for one is rubbish so I tend to eat the same thing for my tea two or three nights in a row.

I don’t have the brain capacity to think of 21 different things to eat in the week 🤣 And not every meal has to be for pleasure!
