to eat the same breakfast and lunch every single day?

I didn't realise it was weird until a colleague pointed it out. Disclaimer - the colleague is a friend, we were just chatting - she wasn't criticising!

Every week I pot up 5 lots of overnight oats (literally just oats and a spoon of trail mix) and have 1 a day for breakfast

I cook a chicken on a Sunday and have a chicken, pease pudding and stuffing sandwich every day for lunch.

I use the rest of the chicken in a family meal, sometimes dh will make himself a sandwich with it.

I've been doing this for about 2 years straight. Every single work day - never given it a thought!

How weird am I?

When I was working I'd always have 2 Warburton's pre sliced baps. Either tuna mayo or cheese and pickle. Always shortbread fingers and orange squash kept at work.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 20/01/2024 15:34

DH is the same on a work day, weetabix for breakfast, tuna sandwich for lunch. Its easy to prep and cost saving. He will, on a Monday mostly, take a leftover roast sandwich as usually we have roast something dinner on a Sunday I have the same breakfast 90% of the time, I vary on lunch but mostly I'm in the house (wfh PT and 2 days with DD atm) so I can make what I fancy at the time. Its usually one of the same 3 or 4 things though.

We also tend to have a similar meal on set days of the week (I.e. on an in office day for me we usually have chicken, roast potatoes and frozen veg cos it's easy to prep and cook on a manic day, non working days I make pasta sauce or curry and freeze portions for our "tired" days and so on).

Weekends we eat what we fancy, or what's in if we're busy. If it gets boring, we have a change. But it's not really that boring, because breakfast and lunch when you're busy working and being parents are not a big deal.

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 15:35

@Timeturnerplease I'm a teacher too. I think I've subconsciously done this to avoid extra decisions

I started because real chicken makes me feel full - sandwich meats don't and I'd be chewing my arm off in a hangry manner by lesson 5!

I make 3 lots of overnight oats with fruit oats and a big yogurt pot split into 3 for the first 3 days of week then as I work from home the others I have fruit ryvita and laughing cow. For lunches I make a batch of something then take it to work each day. Sometimes it will be a jacket potato each day. No you're not weird

muckandnettles · 20/01/2024 15:35

When I was at work I used to have porridge in the morning, then make enough extra to eat cold at lunchtime. Every day for about 2 years I think. I had some fruit with it, nuts sometimes, whatever came to hand. It was either that or risk having nothing for lunch. I loved my cold porridge!

muckandnettles · 20/01/2024 15:36

Just seen your update about being a teacher. Same here!

soupfiend · 20/01/2024 15:36

Nothing wrong with eating chicken on Friday that was cooked on Sunday

What do you think the length of time pre cooked chicken is in terms of use by dates in supermarkets?

Zanatdy · 20/01/2024 15:37

Yes I have the same breakfast and lunch too everyday. Just makes life easier and I like it

Sparklyhat · 20/01/2024 15:37

I have a question! Pease pudding....is that the bean spread in a tin? Do you just have it cold spread onto bread? Does it go well with chicken and stuffing? Intrigued!

JulianCasa · 20/01/2024 15:37

It was so obvious to me that you are a teacher when I was reading this thread 😂😂

@JulianCasa was it the dresses with pockets and the 10 minute lunch that gave me away? 😄

I do this op.
mostly because I have breakfast and lunch at work so easy to prep same thing. I am also a massive creature of habit and also sometimes track calories on my fitness pal and it’s easier to enter the same meals in.
i eat very healthy for these 2 meals like you.
I eat very varied evening meals and have a different lunch on a Saturday and Sunday although I would say every wkend is pretty similar too. 😂

TorroFerney · 20/01/2024 15:42

I have a relative who has the same meals (all meals) every single day. She’s odd generally though and would be without the food thing!

I have the same breakfast most days, weetabix well aldis Ersatz version. But I really like it and look forward to it.

wellhello24 · 20/01/2024 15:44

It’s certainly unusual. You’re not getting a broad variety of nutrients with this that would be my concern. It’d also be extremely boring for me I’m amazed you’re not fed up of the same old stuff but each to their own

soupfiend · 20/01/2024 15:45

Also just to agree with other posters about this being a modern trend. Our ancestors would have had a very samey diet and if you go very far back they had the same meal 3x a day, every day, more or less/give or take

Emotionalsupportviper · 20/01/2024 15:47

My daughter and my husband always have the same breakfast every day. (They eat different things, but each always has the same thing.)

I eat whatever is lying about in the fridge (and have had leftover curry, steak pie, yorkshire pudding, pizza etc before now). If there's nothing then I have toast or porridge.

I couldn't eat the same stuff day in day out though - but it must make life simpler.

Oh god. I'm also a teacher....same breakfast and lunch as well as the work 'uniform'.

Did I used to eat more varied food in the Before Times? I can't even remember.

Souvenir81 · 20/01/2024 15:49

Weird but you should save lots of money and if you enjoy it and are healthy who cares

Emeraldrings · 20/01/2024 15:49

DH has same lunch every work day, ham sandwich, fish sticks and salt and vinegar crisps. Toast every day for breakfast.
Bloody boring but at least it's easy make lunch for him on my days.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 20/01/2024 15:49

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 14:48

@noblegiraffe I also have about 6 versions of the same dress 🙈

It has pockets - major bonus as otherwise I'd never find a pen!

Edited

I do things like this too, but it is unusul.

Mark Zuckerberg wears the same trousers and hoodie all the time. He has loads of them in the same colour.

If it is good enough for him, it is good enough for me.

LlynTegid · 20/01/2024 15:50

The artists Gilbert and George apparently have the same breakfast every day, and no one thinks they are weird (well their art is another matter).

Moonshine5 · 20/01/2024 15:50

How big is this chicken 😂

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 15:51

My colleagues (including the one who was taking the mick) are obviously teachers too - some don't have breakfast then raid their drawer for chocolate mid morning

Some have a ceral bar, one brings cold toast. Some bring a Greggs breakfast every day. I think they're all weirder than me!

Lunch wise - most have a sandwich I think. Lots of us eat in classrooms or on the run if we're switching buildings.

LlynTegid · 20/01/2024 15:51

@IMustDoMoreExercise Mark Zuckerberg would not be my justification for doing anything.
