to eat the same breakfast and lunch every single day?

I didn't realise it was weird until a colleague pointed it out. Disclaimer - the colleague is a friend, we were just chatting - she wasn't criticising!

Every week I pot up 5 lots of overnight oats (literally just oats and a spoon of trail mix) and have 1 a day for breakfast

I cook a chicken on a Sunday and have a chicken, pease pudding and stuffing sandwich every day for lunch.

I use the rest of the chicken in a family meal, sometimes dh will make himself a sandwich with it.

I've been doing this for about 2 years straight. Every single work day - never given it a thought!

How weird am I?

Oh my word I had no idea this existed! I just asked my partner who is from up north and they were like yeah of course I’ve had it loads! Learned something new!!

Fluffmum · 22/01/2024 15:54

How big is that chicken?

NorthernGirlie · 22/01/2024 16:23

Those of you on about this massive chicken - a large stripped chicken produces loads of meat!

More than enough for 5 butties and a stir fry! How much chicken are you all having in a sandwich??

I'm the same! Every weekday breakfast and lunch is the same.

I'm a teacher, and decision fatigue is a real problem for me. And if I can automate some things, like meals, then all the better. It's probably about 5 years of doing this now, and I'm not bored of the meals yet!

I don’t think it’s weird. I have overnight oats every morning for breakfast, although I am on a slimming world plan so it’s good for me as I’m losing weight. My overnight oats consist of oats, a Skyr yoghurt (different flavour each day) and frozen forest fruits which defrost in the fridge overnight. Generally I have a home-made tomato soup for lunch, although sometimes I might have a jacket potato with salad. Dinner is whatever I have time to cook in the evening between Work and whatever social thing the kids have got going on.

Curious to know if you’ve ever had something other than roast chicken on a Sunday? Although I’m guessing not if you’ve had the same leftovers for lunch every day for 2 years! 😁

NorthernGirlie · 23/01/2024 17:59

@Moonlightdust we rarely have a roast on Sundays

I tend to cook the chicken late on, when I'm pottering doing the Sunday shit jobs.

Actually- that's habitual too. I put the chicken on and whilst it's cooking i have an hour and 20 minutes to pot up my breakfasts, sort the laundry, iron any odd bits, chop veg for a soup and set my students' homework for the week.

Once the chicken is out I grab a shower while it cools. Then I dump the veg peelings and bones back in the airfryer to make broth for the soup

I genuinely didn't realise how much of a creature of habit I am!

You sound like you run a tight ship

He he it’s very easy to get into habits. Sounds like you have a good little routine going on and your sandwich does sound delicious - although I don’t think I could eat it every day without getting a bit fed up 🤣 Admittedly I need to be more adventurous with cooking - although we have something different each week night I tend to repeat a lot of dishes on a weekly basis.

It's interesting how divided the thread is...

I do think nutrition is a priority and worthy of being mindful about as it's the foundation for health.

Food isn't in the same category as rotating duplicates of clothing, which makes no difference, or lots of other things that are superficial and can be simplified.

It's also the foundation of a lot of enjoyment and ritual, I find this 'food as fuel' and seeing eating meals as something to be gotten over to get to the important stuff a very bleak and joyless way of living. And I would in no way consider myself a foodie.

I made this sandwich for the first time today, as inspired by this thread, and it is absolutely delicious! There are far worse things to eat for lunch every day.

Yes, it sounded so nice I wanted to try it!

Tuelanak · 26/01/2024 13:38

I'm pregnant and you triggered an insatiable craving OP 😂

I'll have to give your sandwich a shot this weekend

I have crazy fads with foods, eating the same thing for days - then suddenly go right off it and won’t eat it for months! Same with flavours of crisps or chocolate, puddings etc. I’ve always been like it.
My son does it too, but more out of frugality… he’s saving for a house so keeps to a tight budget with shopping for food. I don’t think it’s particularly odd.
