To think there shouldn't be measles outbreaks?

fatandhappy47 · 20/01/2024 06:39

Surely we shouldn't be having an issue with measles?
Had an email from school (secondary) 'reminding' us to keep kids off with measles, which got me thinking

All my kids band my friends kids of the same age had their MMR (however my youngest did get measles before this)

So why is it an issue in secondary schools of all places? Are people just not vaccinating their kids?

Maybe it's because people don't have faith in either the medical profession or the government? There must be a reason for vaccine uptake being so low. Parents won't be declining just because they can't be bothered.

There is a strong anti-vaxx movement here in the US, because some idiots maintain that ANY of the childhood vaccinations, as well as the COVID vaccinations, cause autism. It is absurd, but we're really struggling with childhood diseases again. I'm sure it is there, as well.

I didn’t realise the ability to observe things was reserved for the medical profession. I’m a researcher and I work with statistics. Sorry if my observations are not on par with that of a GP.

Had measles aged 18 months ( late 50s), affected one of my eyes. A girl I knew went blind in one of her eyes back then.

MyopicBunny · 22/01/2024 06:49

My own opinion is that the extremely high temps and seizures caused by some vaccines cause brain damage that goes on to be diagnosed as autism.

Unless these are your children, you are assuming stuff about a situation you have no real knowledge about. Autism is genetic. It presents in various ways but it's definitely genetic.

I don't know why people are so obsessed with autism as if it's the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone. In America there is a very bigoted attitude about autistic people that is regressive and should not be paid attention to.

I try to stay away from the news tbh

OP, staying away from the news is one of the reasons people are falling to get their children vaccinated.

I have assumed nothing. I have given my opinion and said clearly it’s my opinion based on my own observations. I have said nothing at all to imply it’s the worst thing that could happen to a person.

I had measles and German measles as a child. I got chicken pox as a 23xyear old and I was very ill with it as I caught flu afterwards. I've spent 5 months in hospital due to the new covid 19 vaccination. I'm in permanent pain and have lost my independence aszwell as being in constant pain. I had friends who refused to havd children vaccinated and I'm claimingvaccine damage. I've been told by NHS 111 that this has caused lots of dvt, heart attacks or in my case strokes. I had AF but wasn't told it was a new vaccine. I'm bloody furious as I was a fit adult who walked, volunteered and led an active life before this.

I’m wondering if this sudden outbreak is due to global travel…. Look how quickly covid spread around the globe… no country was unaffected. Measles was apparently irradiated in the U.K. in 2016… seems odd that senior age children (who weren’t vaccinated in 2016) would suddenly get it now but not as infants!
I’ve seen the horrible effects of these diseases, children born ‘normal’ who were both physically and mentally disabled after contracting the disease… my cousins testicles swelled & left him infertile…. Please vaccinate

you think this recent outbreak is due to “global travel”

Seriously

like “global travel” is some kind of recent phenomenon

The twattish arrogance of this statement is astounding

frecklejuice · 22/01/2024 08:04

Just so everyone knows you can have your MMR on the NHS even as an adult.

My Mum was adamant that I had mine (born in 1979) but the nurse flagged it up at my smear test and said I hadn’t ever had it as there was no record. She offered me it and I said yes as apparently having it twice isn’t a problem, I then had to go back two weeks later for the second lot.

Month or so later my Mum found my vaccination card in the loft and I had had it so no idea why it wasn’t on my record.

That’s not evidence of no link. I am sure you know that some people get lung cancer who have never smoked in their lives. Does that prove there is no link between smoking and lung cancer? I don’t think anyone has ever claimed that autism is ONLY cause by vaccines. My own opinion is that the extremely high temps and seizures caused by some vaccines cause brain damage that goes on to be diagnosed as autism. I have no way of investigating it or proving it. It’s observational, like your observations which don’t prove anything either.

Autism isn't brain damage. 😡

What do you research that involves you witnessing multiple cases of vaccines causing seizures causing brain damage causing autism?

JennyForeigner · 22/01/2024 08:15

Young children in my family are unvaccinated in a hippyish part of the country. Really frightens me. Their parents know better but just won't talk about it.

Separately I work in schools where we have had a recent measles outbreak, vax buses on site and so on. In that case it is an area with high inward migration from overseas and not everyone has been offered vaccination in childhood.

It's a sign of the privilege of the first set that they don't engage with the realities of keeping the UK measles free and that it takes continuing effort and stepping up. IMHO that makes it doubly selfish to think your kids are some kind of exception.

Re -measles parties' I am from Australia and definitely went to one. I a 50 now for context so it was around 1974-1976. My mother was a nurse as well. She often talked about it- her friend's child (also a nurse) got measles and loads of kids went along to it and played while she lay mostly asleep on the sofa. Apparently I was so bad with measles that even my eyeballs were covered in spots. My mother talked about it again recently in a 'what the fuck was I thinking' sort of way.

Same friend also held a chickenpox party under the same circumstances but I wasn't taken. I've never actually to my knowledge had chicken pox- despite nursing two DCs through it! So i might have had a mild unnoticed version at some point.

And your point is? I haven't read the paper so have no idea whether it's any good, but what exactly is your exception to the institution?

I don't believe NHS 111 told you the vaccine has caused "lots of dvt, heart attack and strokes"

How many hundreds of children have you observed personally to come to this conclusion?
Have you looked at how many children have had febrile convulsions as infants and gone on to not be autistic.....a febrile conversation being much more severe than the mild raised temperature of a vaccine.
Why do you feel your vast scientific knowledge is superior to the numerous scientists who've spent years of study looking at any correlation between any environmental factor and ASD?
