You don't care? Well someone's child passed away from a long struggle with cancer in their short life, so I hope you feel like a tit for trying to be funny for no reason.

For all we know she might appreciate that her ex has paid a subtle homage to the child they both lost. She might well do something similar when/if she has another baby.

Guavafish1 · 19/01/2024 07:16

Your being ridiculous

Different names and he can call his children what he likes.

You dislike him because he left Saf and then had 2 children very quickly with another women.

duckpancakes · 19/01/2024 06:54

Try reading the names outloud rather than going by some of the letters they contain being the same

@Queijo This is not some random. this is the father of the child that died. This is his way of honouring the child’s memory. We are all different. I might not do that but he wanted to and has the right to do so.

I’m not trying to be funny, it’s not a joke.

BigFatCat2024 · 19/01/2024 07:31

Yes YABU (and a bit weird)

ruffler45 · 19/01/2024 07:33

Who is Ashley Cain?

Chonk · 19/01/2024 07:34

HollyKnight · 19/01/2024 06:39

I had to go Google to see wtf this is about. You are being ridiculous. The first names are not a bit similar! Unless it was reverse then you could maybe argue there is a similarity.

Aliyas
Ailyaza

But it's still not.

@HollyKnight You don't have to agree with the OP that it's hurtful to use such a similar name, but to say the names are not a bit similar is ridiculous. His daughter's name had 7 letters, and he's used all but 1 of those to create the new name.

Kalevala · 19/01/2024 07:35

MySugarBabyLove · 19/01/2024 05:28

There’s nothing wrong with it.
there is however a lot wrong with the need to be professionally offended over something you know nothing about and is none of your business.
incidentally, in Victorian times when infant mortality was high, it was common for a baby to be given the same name as the most recently deceased child.

My family did it with a child in the 1930s

Snowdogsmitten · 19/01/2024 07:38

Am I missing something? Sure, the guy’s a prick, but the names are…different. No???

StopTheBusINeedAWeeWeeAWeeWeeBagOChips · 19/01/2024 07:39

My daughter died some years ago, ex and I split, then I had a child with someone else.

I used my angel daughters name for the middle name of my baby.

I didn't even consider my ex tbh, she was my child, I wanted to honour my daughter. All of my kids have the same sort of style of name as well as that's my personal preference of name.

That doesn't make me a cunt, it makes me a grieving, loving Mum.

I'm no fan of Ashley for numerous reasons, but you can't deny he was a devoted dad to his daughter. He's absolutely entitled to use her middle name.

Not to say don't feel for Saffy, this is extremely hard for her, and having it all play out in the public eye must make it 20 times worse. Having total strangers get offended on her behalf and be awful to someone she has to work with at their daughters foundation, and uninvolved people insulting his baby is ridiculous though. Long after all these people move onto the next Internet drama they read about Saffy and Ashley will still have to be picking up the pieces of all this fallout.

chocolatefiends · 19/01/2024 07:46

Copperoliverbear · 19/01/2024 05:04

The baby's name with his new girlfriend is the same name as his baby who died, that he had with a different woman.
That just goes to show how silly his new girlfriend is, because you would not do it would you, how disrespectful and immature

Of course - it's the woman's fault. She's the silly one. Couldn't possibly be the man's fault!

He didn't create a new name. It is a name which has existed for a long time. Ashley's sister is called Alissia. Aliyas is closer to that than Azaylia.

I've no comment on this situation but I'm pretty sure the Victorians weren't big on having multiple baby mamas and so the Victorian tradition really isn't applicable here 🤣

versacesafetpindress · 19/01/2024 07:51

Ok, I just googled this and it's not the "same" name at all. They are two different names and the baby is a boy.

Whatever you think of him, I don't think he has done anything wrong here regarding the name. Also- why are you blaming the new mother for this? If my partner had lost a child and wanted to name our son a name beginning with A as some kind of tribute it would be pretty heartless of me to say NO. Then, you'd be saying she was a heartless bitch so she cant really win here can she?

RainsweptAndUninteresting · 19/01/2024 07:55

Of all the things to get your knickers in a knot over
Get a grip 🤣

WhatShallIDoToday · 19/01/2024 07:55

but wow what a woman Saf is how dignified she is

I have no idea who they are or the story so no idea of this applies here but it irks me how women are often described as 'dignified' when the truth is they have poor boundaries, people pleasing tendencies and feel they can't speak out about being treated badly for fear of being called 'undignified'.

Not in the way it is today with regard to having multiple current partners no, but people were widowed and moved on several times. One of my ancestors had 4 husbands and chilcren will all 4 and had replicate names for living children too.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 19/01/2024 07:55

What?! They’re totally different names!😂 Mumsnet is a mad place sometimes.

not very far off though is it out of Alllllll the A baby boy names he could of chose really??
Aliyas
Azaylia. nope wrong on every level

You're joking, right?

I had to look this up as I didn't know anything about it. You need to take a long hard look at yourself OP. Attacking a man who has lost a child and who must be feeling very mixed feelings about having another one is disgusting. Isn't he allowed a bit of happiness without ghouls like you bringing up his dead baby? Hasn't he been through enough?

SoupDragon · 19/01/2024 07:58

He's just used family names. Are you not allowed to do that if you lose a child who also has those family names?

If you are "raging" because of this you seriously need to calm down! 😂

Sceptre86 · 19/01/2024 07:59

My initial reaction was he's such a lovely baby but the name is similar in that apart from one letter it's an anagram of his sister's name. However when said out loud the names sound dissimilar as they don't rhyme and have a different amount of syllables. It has a lovely meaning. I don't agree with the rage on the part if Saf, she can speak for herself.

The only thing they have in common is the first letter! (And not being "traditional" English names which is irrelevant)

TooOldForThisNonsense · 19/01/2024 08:02

Do you know these people? Assuming not, why do you give a shit?

YABU

Fupacabra · 19/01/2024 08:02

I don't know any of these people are but I'm off to Google now.

Has the mother of the child who passed actually said she is upset or are people frothing on her behalf? She could have had a conversation with her ex about this for all anyone knows.

Drosera · 19/01/2024 08:06

Meh sleb drama.
