To find David Lammy rude, obnoxious and uninformed?

I tuned into LBC the other day and David Lammy was on , discussing the unrest in the Red Sea region.

There was a caller on , Jack , who was trying to share his opinion but David Lammy continuously shouted over the caller, interrupting and heckling and was downright rude . Including him actually shouting "this is my show Jack, not yours !" , which I thought was absurd .

It made me wonder what the point is of letting the public call in if you are not interested in capturing diverse opinions and voices on discussion topics ?

If I spoke like that to a member of my team or any member of the public there would be serious concerns about my conduct.

AIBU to find David Lammy an arrogant tw*t for speaking to callers like this ? Is this the way that you would facilitate a discussion ?

I am ofcourse BU for listening to LBC in the first place but the car had been for valeting so I blame them for messing with the dials . Grin

David Lammy is a very good constituency MP and he performs very well in the media and in person. Thats his job. On the radio shows he adapts to the style of the show. Which for LBC listeners is to be challenging. He holds his own and doesn’t do vanilla politics.

From what I know of the man he gets things done for his constituents. Rare in a borough continually let down by a shit local authority. I know this because I was commissioned to do work there based on his campaigning. He never let up and I can’t say he made me comfortable but he stopped complacency setting in and got the job done.

There’s a great video of him challenging a racist caller.

Sorry but before you criticise someone find out more.

Sorry, but the man is an ignorant prat. No way does he "perform well in the media..." He makes a fool of himself every time he opines on something he knows nothing about.

Piggywaspushed · 21/01/2024 15:44

Yes, he needs to stick to his lane and only talk about his pet topics of racism. Apparently.

Indeed the Tories would dearly love us not to discuss their 14 years in government, but instead discuss But David Lammy.

Lets not forget the great intellect D Raab who was deputy Prime Minister who is equally worried about misogyny against men as well as women.

This thread is about David Lammy. If you want to start a thread about 14 years of the Tories, you could do that instead of trying to derail every thread which criticises Labour in any way.

And no, this isn't me defending the Tories, which no doubt you'll spout, as is your way.

Good God. This is bizarre. Can noone give an opinion any more without whataboutery being brought into it?

I am not a fan of the Tories. I am also not a fan of Lammy. I do not need to state I don't like the Tories if I am asked my opinion of Lammy.

ALongHardWinter · 21/01/2024 15:51

Not as bad as James O'Brien imo.

pieceofpasta · 21/01/2024 15:52

Yes I think he's horrid to callers. I'll never forgive him for the dinosaur comment either.

Doodar · 21/01/2024 15:56

he doesn't know what a woman is, pompous git.

SweetBirdsong · 21/01/2024 15:57

Can't STAND him!

Piggywaspushed · 21/01/2024 15:58

But people are bringing issues about Lammys view's into the OP, too. The OP appears to be about his radio presenting not his other views. Many posts are not appraisals of his interview style on LBC.

DeeCeeCherry · 21/01/2024 16:02

So what?

Lots of poloticians are like that, far too many to mention. You want to get your rocks off on a diss thread about Lammy. Happy Sunday.

Dweetfidilove · 21/01/2024 16:02

I’m guessing you are entirely new to LBC!

You should try listening to Nick ‘banging the desk Ferrari’, James O’Brien and the recently’ I wake up an ass Sheila Fogarty.

David Lammy is quite mild in comparison (sometimes a right bore).

It certainly is bizarre that the government don't want to campaign on their 14 years in government and instead are trying to create arguments about wedge issues such as what a woman is and persecuting asylum seekers who have not broken any laws.

Thank you for your kind advice.

Indeed I did start such a thread for posters to share all the things that excite them about the current government and Sunak's inspiring premiership. There is still space for further contributions, should you be so minded.

Anyone actually excited about a Sunak/Tory government | Mumsnet

Can anyone point to anything Sunak and the Tories have done over the past 14 years that excites them, and makes them go, I want to vote for them again...

I'm an LBC fan (have listened since mid 80s). I listen to Nick (have met him a few times) but disagree with his politics however he can be interesting (if he'd stop going on about America). I love JoB for the time slot he is in and mostly agree with him but he can be very dismissive at times. I don't like David Lammy- find him too shorty. I love Iain Dale although absolutely disagree with his politics (and love his podcast with Jacqui Smith- For the Many- love it!).

PonyPatter44 · 21/01/2024 16:19

You clearly have an issue with me using the phrase "pet subject", @Piggywaspushed . Mind if i ask why?

Monkeytennis97 · 21/01/2024 16:19

Shouty not shorty!

I think race and institutional racism being seen as 'pet' subjects is a bit like suggesting someone who gets excited about combustion engines.

I am interested that you can't see that.

'Ooh , Stephen Lawrence. How exciting. My pet subject!'

To be fair its novel that it isn't But Jeremy Corbyn and his time as Prime Minister being attacked in this way, so in that sense it has some originality.

The entire world is not laughing at us. What an arrogant thing to say. We aren't that important.

Most of Europe is! I have lots of European friends and work colleagues who can't believe what we have become. Especially when we elected Boris.
