To find David Lammy rude, obnoxious and uninformed?

I tuned into LBC the other day and David Lammy was on , discussing the unrest in the Red Sea region.

There was a caller on , Jack , who was trying to share his opinion but David Lammy continuously shouted over the caller, interrupting and heckling and was downright rude . Including him actually shouting "this is my show Jack, not yours !" , which I thought was absurd .

It made me wonder what the point is of letting the public call in if you are not interested in capturing diverse opinions and voices on discussion topics ?

If I spoke like that to a member of my team or any member of the public there would be serious concerns about my conduct.

AIBU to find David Lammy an arrogant tw*t for speaking to callers like this ? Is this the way that you would facilitate a discussion ?

I am ofcourse BU for listening to LBC in the first place but the car had been for valeting so I blame them for messing with the dials . Grin

I bet he can at least spell.
The plural of Tory is Tories and lefty lefties.

You can disagree with him, which is why you started the thread, but I don't think he is ill-informed.

He certainly is about biology. He thinks transwomen grow cervixes through hormone treatment or have them constructed as part of the sex change procedure. Which makes me wonder if he even knows what one is. And sure, many people are ignorant about basic things through no fault of their own but if you know so little you should have the sense not to opine (and tell the silly women they are wrong) about it.

ruffler45 · 18/01/2024 11:43

Dont listen to his program, if he has not got an audience he wont last long.
Whenever he is on TV its an instant switch off/over

skippy67 · 18/01/2024 20:58

I think he's fantastic.

SoIf · 19/01/2024 12:23

Don't like him or his views. An ignoramus extraordinaire.

BananaSplitsss · 19/01/2024 12:27

He’s an arrogant dick. Can’t stand him.

HermoineFairfax · 19/01/2024 17:33

I didn't listen to the show, but not a fan of this fella as he's not a supporter of women.

LlynTegid · 19/01/2024 17:36

Not the kind of show I'd listen to, but at least he is not an MP or former one who should be in prison like several current or former ministers.

Magoj · 20/01/2024 21:16

I totally agree with you. I was really put off by his condescending and bombastic attitude.

I don't find David Lammy obnoxious but I have to turn James O'Brien off most times. He humiliates people and to keep attacking people who disagree with him by labelling them stupid encourages division. People like him ,imo, contributed hugely to the Brexit vote which took us out of the EU. Rather than debate calmly, he shouts them down, mocks them etc.

I don't find this at all.

I think Nick is the worst. Sheila annoyed me with her uneducated view on school avoidance. I like Tom.
Interesting everyone's different perspectives.

David Lammy is a very good constituency MP and he performs very well in the media and in person. Thats his job. On the radio shows he adapts to the style of the show. Which for LBC listeners is to be challenging. He holds his own and doesn’t do vanilla politics.

From what I know of the man he gets things done for his constituents. Rare in a borough continually let down by a shit local authority. I know this because I was commissioned to do work there based on his campaigning. He never let up and I can’t say he made me comfortable but he stopped complacency setting in and got the job done.

There’s a great video of him challenging a racist caller.

Sorry but before you criticise someone find out more.

This is all very interesting but it doesn't make him a good radio talk show host.

Interrupting and talking over callers isn't a good host. It's a host who doesn't know how to manage themselves

menopausalmare · 21/01/2024 07:45

I didn't listen yesterday because I switch off when DL comes on (and JOB).

newnamethanks · 21/01/2024 08:10

He refused to tolerate a terrorist supporter. That's not excessive. Try a different radio station. GB News sounds like a better fit for most on this thread and they could use an audience.

nationallampoons · 21/01/2024 08:22

I cannot stand him

Moonshine5 · 21/01/2024 08:26

That has not been my experience of listening to David Lammy, who came across as empathetic and open
I had to stop listening to LBC as Sheila Fogarty's nose breathing is so heavy it triggers my misophonia. I'm not joking. Can't believe her producer hasn't mentioned it.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 21/01/2024 08:29

He's not my favorites presenter on LBC but I would love him to be my MP.
I like James and Nick so I think I don't make my choices on my political leanings unlike many on here

Whu · 21/01/2024 08:43

Lammy is ok nothing special as a radio host imo. He does better in interviews when he is being interviewed he was
good on Radio 4 this week.
My favourite presenters are Matt Frei and Sangita Myska - intelligent, compassionate and informed.

Notatthemoment · 21/01/2024 09:00

Boomer55 · 18/01/2024 10:46

Nick Ferrari is the worse. He has his own, fixed opinion on the Israel/Gaza situation and shouts down and interrupts anyone that doesn’t agree with him.

It’s all about him and his opinions. 😗

Quite agree. Dresses up his right wing opinions with faux chivalrous "sir/madam" and "thank you for your comments" to close people down. A pound shop Rees Mogg. Always getting flustered and tripping over his words too. About time he retired.

Orangeandgold · 21/01/2024 09:20

Do you listen to other radio presenters on LBC? Why David Lammy?

They are all like that (well I’d say 70% - except the ones that take on the night shows, the legal hour - and I enjoy Sangita - I also spend too much time in traffic in the car and the music channels are awful). Every single LBC presenter guides the conversation when a caller calls in if the callers opinion doesn’t match where they want the debate to go, it gets heated and sometimes they move to the next caller. And sometimes the presenter comes across as arrogant.

I don’t know what your job is, but these people are also undercover entertainers to keep the views up. So being nice to callers probably isn’t in their job spec - sadly.

I don’t always agree with the way they go about it - but he isn’t the rudest presenter. He can be annoying.

You are allowed to dislike his style - but maybe LBC isn’t for you.

AndThatWasNY · 21/01/2024 09:24

Coincidentally · 18/01/2024 10:29

This.
not as bad as James O’ Bryan or as sanctimonious as Sheila Fogarty tho.
Only ones worthy listening to are Nick Ferrari and Tom Swarbreck

Nick Ferrari 😂. He is awful can't think of many worst presenters other than Jacob Rees Mogg or Farage.

ThinWomansBrain · 21/01/2024 09:26

he's a politician, goes with the territory.

3peassuit · 21/01/2024 09:40

He’s the one who thinks men can grow a cervix. I expect better from a politician of his standing.

Onthebeachinmymind · 21/01/2024 10:00

I heard him on Radio 4 yesterday being interviewed and before I knew who it was, I was thinking ‘who is this arrogant, obnoxious twat of a politician…’ although he wasn’t shouting his tone was massively condescending and wouldn’t answer questions directly. He did that annoying ‘avoidance answer’, with phrases like ‘let’s be crystal clear blah blah blah’ that politicians think make them sound clever, but it just makes them look like charlatans.

Yes with crystal clear at the start of each condescension

That’s a pretty low bar, wouldn’t you say? I hate the whole ‘well at least he’s not…’ argument as it’s simply a deflection technique and excuses a lot of bad behaviour.
