To find David Lammy rude, obnoxious and uninformed?

I tuned into LBC the other day and David Lammy was on , discussing the unrest in the Red Sea region.

There was a caller on , Jack , who was trying to share his opinion but David Lammy continuously shouted over the caller, interrupting and heckling and was downright rude . Including him actually shouting "this is my show Jack, not yours !" , which I thought was absurd .

It made me wonder what the point is of letting the public call in if you are not interested in capturing diverse opinions and voices on discussion topics ?

If I spoke like that to a member of my team or any member of the public there would be serious concerns about my conduct.

AIBU to find David Lammy an arrogant tw*t for speaking to callers like this ? Is this the way that you would facilitate a discussion ?

I am ofcourse BU for listening to LBC in the first place but the car had been for valeting so I blame them for messing with the dials . Grin

I can't stand the man.

He thinks women are 'dinosaurs' for wanting single sex spaces and sports.

He thinks that some men can magically turn into to women and that women have no right to moan when this harms us.

Basically he's a massive misogynist who puts the feelings of males above the rights of women.

And the use of the term 'dinosaur' makes me think he might be ageist too.

EffieeBriest · 21/01/2024 10:29

Righties like Ferrari and probably Farage when he was on. Tom Swarbrick was a Tory SPAD so they’ll like him too. There’s also a Thatcher fan on in the evenings,
Ian somebody, Probs like him too.
Lefties probably like O’Brien and Sheila Fogherty.
The GC will hate Lammy even if they agree with him on other points.

jgw1 · 21/01/2024 11:09

At least David Lammy has been elected unlike the current Foreign Secretary.

Oh yes- good point, I can see how this excuses any unacceptable behaviour towards other people by David Lammy.

porridgecake · 21/01/2024 11:32

He thinks men who say they are women can actually grow a cervix. Considering the education he has had, this is a disappointing level of ignorance.
I can't bear James O'Brien, but I like Shelagh Fogarty.
Matt Frei is excellent. A proper journalist. I wish there were more like him.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/01/2024 11:37

I think it’s the LBC brand - he’s obviously bought into that!

I like some things about him - I think he really cares about the people of his constituency, and about poorer people, which is obviously a good contrast to the Tories.

He can be a bit of a “brocialist” I guess, and calling women dinosaurs hoarding rights is clearly unacceptable. Plus what does it even mean? A bit ridiculous.

EffieeBriest · 21/01/2024 11:43

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing agree. His speech about leaving the EU in parliament was great, his thoughts on gender issues not so good. I guess like anyone we’ll agree on somethings but not on others. I suppose if he does a decent job as an MP that’s what matters rather than just talking the talk like some.
It’s sad that people are so politically polarised nowadays.

OliviaSW1 · 21/01/2024 11:43

He will seriously struggle as Secretary of State for foreign commonwealth and development if labour comes to power. He does not have the intellectual elasticity and big picture realpolitic needed to properly utilise the UK’s still significant soft power and diplomatic influence in the world. I’m not convinced he will strain every sinew to represent the UK’s interests at all times . Sadly ..

Alcyoneus · 21/01/2024 11:45

He is a misogynist piece of shit. That’s all we need to know.

EasternStandard · 21/01/2024 11:48

He was nice enough to bring in the GRA twenty years ago. Maybe he’ll be in power to finish us off. Going by his misogynistic language he seems keen

ACynicalDad · 21/01/2024 11:51

Hope he won’t be Foreign Secretary

Boomboom22 · 21/01/2024 11:52

He's actually stupid. He believes cross sex hormones cause men to grow a cervix. He genuinely thinks the science is advanced enough for people to change sex and has zero handle on why women have rights. He calls women rights horading dinosaurs. He is pretty racist himself with his views about black and Asian people only being allowed to vote Labour or being a 'coconut'.
Horrible arrogant man and I highly doubt he's an effective mp to any constituent who doesn't follow his elite ideology.

Am I right in thinking that misogyny against both men and women is a bad thing?

Compared to some ministers we have had over the past few years though, he is an intellectual giant.

The current Defence Minister thinks that Labour dominate the House of Lords.

The current Prime Minsiter can't remember anything about covid.

A previous Prime Minister didn't know he was breaking the law when he had a birthday party, even though he wrote to children telling them not to have birthday parties.

We had a minister who didn't know that Dover was important for trade.

puncheur · 21/01/2024 11:58

I guess this is the start of 10 months of astroturfing by CCHQ.

Its odd after 14 years in goverment that they don't seem to want to campaign on their record.

I can't quite imagine why that would be.

ZaZathecat · 21/01/2024 12:03

I listen to LBC and just about all of them do it, including Ferrari. My views are more aligned with O'Brien but he also annoys me when he won't let people speak. More effective to let people have their say then pick apart what they said than just shut them down.

Reugny · 21/01/2024 12:08

AndThatWasNY · 21/01/2024 09:24

Nick Ferrari 😂. He is awful can't think of many worst presenters other than Jacob Rees Mogg or Farage.

If you really want Nick Ferrari to go off on one listen to him debate any story that harms or threatens the well-being of any child including criticising their exam results.

Yes - I think that’s the thing. Politics isn’t something where you can expect to agree about everything.

LoobyDop · 21/01/2024 12:23

Not a fan. Even when we were on the same side during the Stop Brexit campaign, I thought his arguments lacked depth and he relied too much on whipping up anger towards the opposition. He plays to the gallery rather than really trying to engage.

A good read about David Lammy here -

unherd.com/2020/03/david-lammy-and-the-tribalism-of-the-left/

He's like many Lefty's a giant hypocrite.

Better than a selfish lying Tory twat anyday 🤷🏻‍♀️

EffieeBriest · 21/01/2024 12:44

@Boomboom22 what’s your opinion on the current government and their record ?
What’s their record on women rights and gender ID, has the status of women improved under them. Labour haven’t been in power for 13 years, tories have and it’s their record we judge them on not what a predicted Labour government or minister will do.

DinaofCloud9 · 21/01/2024 12:50

He's a sexist arsehole.

Snowflakesonhisnose · 21/01/2024 12:55

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 18/01/2024 10:57

Dinosaur Dave also believes that it’s possible for a male to ‘grow’ a cervix.

Yes, I was about to say this. Imagine being that stupid. And imagine being such an arrogant and ill-informed man that you call women who care about sex based rights 'dinosaurs' who want to hoard rights.

IClaudine · 21/01/2024 12:57

He thinks men who say they are women can actually grow a cervix

Did he actually say that?

I do think the dinosaur thing was ill advised, but I don't for a minute think Lammy has some dastardly plan to eradicate women, as suggested by a pp.
