AIBU - to think adults who get giddy about snow should grow up?

It causes disruption and travel problems. Nothing exciting about that. People miss crucial medical appointments for example. Don't whatever you do have a heart attack in a snow covered landscape.

On the other hand it looks cute out of the window.

I began to hate it when I was about 18 and looking back it coincided with travelling further afield and being able to drive.

What do you think?

Snow looks pretty. But the panic buying of milk, bread etc is a PITA.

Olale · 18/01/2024 11:15

I love snow, it looks very pretty and I’m still fond of a sledge down the hill and building snowmen! ⛄️

Thementalloadisreal · 18/01/2024 11:15

Enjoying snow doesn’t make it last longer. Being grumpy about it doesn’t make it thaw quicker.
You can’t control the weather but you can control your attitude to it.

Marblessolveeverything · 18/01/2024 11:18

Life is short embrace the beauty of nature. Don't rob others joy, nobody knows how much that little joy can tip the balance of their day.

@KarenNotAKaren - 🤨💪☃️🌨️🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭

ThatWriterInTheCorner · 18/01/2024 11:21

If other people's joy caused the snow, you might have a point. But the snow falls regardless of how people feel about it.

So what you're really suggesting is that adults should be miserable about something that's inevitable, rather than finding the joy in it. Which is a pretty miserable attitude, I think.

OhGoOnThen0 · 18/01/2024 11:27

I'd definitely say a person posting a thread on MN about people shouldn't be allowed to like snow needs to do a lot more growing up than the person liking snow.

Quirkyme · 18/01/2024 11:31

Bit miserable aren't you.

Says a lot that you have written a post about this. You need to get a grip and a life.

I completely agree!!

I love snow!
I also love autumn leaves and the sun, the sound of rain and a walking on a windy day.

Surely it’s just appreciating the beauty of nature and making the best out of the situation.

Stop being so miserable.

Bobbotgegrinch · 18/01/2024 11:36

Personally I think that people who try and dictate what others get "giddy" about should grow up.

CactusMactus · 18/01/2024 11:39

OMG I love the snow! Thanks for mentioning it... I'm all giddy now!

She's probably punching the wall at your comment

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 18/01/2024 11:53

Even as a child, I have always hated snow, I've never seen the attraction in it. On the other hand I can't get too worked up about others thinking it's great. Each to their own I guess.

Begsthequestion · 18/01/2024 11:53

You might not want to hear this op, but apparently some adults love snow so much they invented special ways to play in it. "Skiing" and "snowboarding", as I believe they're known.

TempleOfBloom · 18/01/2024 11:56

Is it true that a hard frost / snow cuts down the number of ticks in the summer?

If so, bring it on!

WinkyTinky · 18/01/2024 11:57

I look forward to the possibility of snow each year. I love it, so beautiful and fresh. Yes snow is my favourite of the weathers, but I love the seasons in general and all the changes you see in nature as the year moves on. Just because you're an adult doesn't mean you have to lose any kind of magical feeling you get about anything in life. It's very much a positive to take pleasure in seeing the first few tiny snowflakes floating down, becoming bigger like delicate feathers, and settling enough to cover the landscape with a clean blanket of sparkling white. And yes it does bring out the kid in me, and that's good!

WaltzingWaters · 18/01/2024 11:59

Err. You just sound a bit miserable. People like different things. I love a bit of snow, it’s beautiful and something we don’t get often in the UK. Because we don’t get a lot of it, yeah, the country goes into a bit of chaos. I’ve lived in places where there was no disruption to schools, transportation etc even with a foot a snowfall.

Trinity65 · 18/01/2024 12:07

You're a barrel of laughs
Not

This sums up perfectly what I was thinking

amusedbush · 18/01/2024 12:28

I hate this time of year because I have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and my joints dislocate when I'm sitting still, so actually falling over takes me out of the game for a week. Trying to manoeuvre snow and ice is a new level of nonsense; I've had so many panic attacks trying to walk on icy pavements, I now carry around a tub of grit.

I hate driving in the snow. I hate defrosting my car in the dark every morning. I wish I could fast-forward to the end of March 😩

I don't care if other people like it though. It's not childish to enjoy something! And someone else's joy doesn't manifest more snow - it has literally no impact on my life.

SwingTheMonkey · 18/01/2024 12:33

I completely agree op. But I don’t just stop with snow. Adults who get giddy over hot and sunny weather need to grow up because, you know, skin cancer. Plus, people can die of heat stroke, right? And those that like to take a walk on a beach on windy day, fgs grow up! Don’t they know trees sometimes fall and kill people!

You’ve not thought hard enough about this op. The opportunities to judge other people are endless here!

TitaniasAss · 18/01/2024 12:38

I think adults should get excited about whatever they damn well please without some misery guts pissing on their chips.

I don't like the snow, I find it a pain in the arse, but if others like it then fine.

Bookist · 18/01/2024 12:46

Blimey you sound dour!

I am firmly middle aged but have never quite fully grown up. I still get excited by snow and I hope I always will.

ohtowinthelottery · 18/01/2024 12:46

I know someone who moved from down South to up North and posted with excitement on Fakebook the minute there was a slight flurry of snow. I got that it was probably a novelty to them but 8 years on I roll my eyes everytime I see a post about snow from them whilst the next post will be whinging about the fact their road hasn't been gritted!
Welcome to Northern rural living but you can't have it both ways!
