AIBU - to think adults who get giddy about snow should grow up?

It causes disruption and travel problems. Nothing exciting about that. People miss crucial medical appointments for example. Don't whatever you do have a heart attack in a snow covered landscape.

On the other hand it looks cute out of the window.

I began to hate it when I was about 18 and looking back it coincided with travelling further afield and being able to drive.

What do you think?

I think people that getting annoyed about other people finding joy or happiness in something is beyond weird.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 18/01/2024 10:11

I love the snow when I have nowhere to be and I can watch my children enjoying it. I don’t want to be in it myself though. 😂

Do I like driving in snow? No. It causes disruptions and accidents but that’s because people don’t take care. If everyone drove accordingly, there would be far fewer accidents.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/01/2024 10:11

Yanbu.

WaitingForSunnyDaysAgain · 18/01/2024 10:12

You can like something and still acknowledge that it's a pain in the arse for others.
I love the atmosphere when the snow is coming down heavily and everything is so quiet and still. And let's face it, you can't deny the beauty of a snowy landscape. But then once I get out and have to drive in it, then I'm wishing it would go. And it's bloody cold!

NewNameNigel · 18/01/2024 10:12

I bet you're fun at parties op.

Why do you feel the need to rain on others parades?

SurelySmartie · 18/01/2024 10:13

❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️⛄️☃️⛄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

Crikeyalmighty · 18/01/2024 10:14

We've just been to Stockholm for new year- very cold, dull skys, no wind- no rain, lots of frost and snow - beautiful! But the difference is everything still works at100%

puddypud · 18/01/2024 10:17

I hate snow too. But I don't give a shit if other wants to get 'giddy' about it. I'm sure I enjoy things that others think are stupid too. Bit of an odd thing to get annoyed about to be honest.

okthenwhat · 18/01/2024 10:17

Don't be such a joy sponge.

34weekmess · 18/01/2024 10:19

I do love to see the snow I ain't Gona lie, we don't see it much do we so of course it's nice, and that silence when the snow is falling, I love it.
Don't love it so much when it turns to slush and is just one big wet mess!

LightSwerve · 18/01/2024 10:19

How does their happiness affect you? People see things differently and that's OK.

If they were creating snow I would understand, but it just happens and people can feel however they like about it.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 18/01/2024 10:20

It's really beautiful. Enjoying the moment, and seeing the beauty in things, even when it's a pain in the arse in practical terms, isn't a bad thing in my opinion. So think yabu.

LightSwerve · 18/01/2024 10:20

that silence when the snow is falling, I love it I agree, I find this really magic.

DocOck · 18/01/2024 10:21

What a barrel of laughs you must be OP.

NoraLuka · 18/01/2024 10:22

Last time it started snowing I’d just got out of the shower and ran outside in my pjs and dressing gown shouting “snooooow!” while DP and the DDs looked on as if I was bonkers (not far wrong to be fair).

#team let it snow

maudelovesharold · 18/01/2024 10:22

I love the use of the word ‘giddy’ in this context! You should watch the film I’m quoting from for my current username (Harold and Maude!). It’s a good lesson on how to live in, and enjoy, the moment. More power to wonder and giddiness, I say!

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 18/01/2024 10:24

Nobody can like snow lest they have a heart attack and be completely inaccessible by the emergency services.

Got it.

SnowflakeSparkles · 18/01/2024 10:24

How miserable.

I actually think it's the mark of somebody who is actually emotionally immature to view adult humans enjoying things as "immature".

I love snow, and sunshine, and flowers. Nature and weather brings me joy. It is a perfectly natural part of the human experience except for you, you joyless sod 😅

Catza · 18/01/2024 10:24

Having heart attack outside of a hospital is not a great idea anyway. I don't think people realise how minute the success rate of resuscitation is.
As far as other disruptions, if you live somewhere where snow is regular occurrence, then maybe you need to think about fitting winter tires.

LunaandLily · 18/01/2024 10:25

Agree OP. Hate snow, and probably started hating it with adulthood and responsibility. It’s shit and disruptive.

Fraaahnces · 18/01/2024 10:25

I now live in a tropical environment that a lot of people idealize. I bloody hate it. I feel like I am going to go moldy if I stand still for too long. I hate feeling sticky and breathless because the humidity is so high and I loathe feeling like a BBC Victorian heroine whose corset is too tight every time I leave my air conditioned car, house or work.

IamnotSethRogan · 18/01/2024 10:25

They just like the snow, they haven't made it snow and caused disruption for everyone.

Kids are home and we have a bit of a play. Live in a village and can't really leave it due to bad roads. It's pretty much about making the best out of whatever situation you're in.

I can see that I'd be annoyed if it made me miss something important, and it has done on a couple of occasions but can't say I'd have any bad feelings towards people who were just happy about it

MRSMTO · 18/01/2024 10:25

Yeah, the biblical rain that we often get in summer months also cause the problems you've described, when towns and villages begin to flood and often do much more damage to peoples homes and livelihoods than a hit is snow and does not look pretty out of the window.

I don't want light nights and hot summer days, I want winter.

Sunnysideupagain · 18/01/2024 10:26

What a humbug!

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 18/01/2024 10:26

That's not a sign of growing up.

its a sign of being an anxious driver & miserable person.
