It causes disruption and travel problems. Nothing exciting about that. People miss crucial medical appointments for example. Don't whatever you do have a heart attack in a snow covered landscape.

On the other hand it looks cute out of the window.

I began to hate it when I was about 18 and looking back it coincided with travelling further afield and being able to drive.

What do you think?

People getting excited about snow does not make snow either more or less likely, so yes, you are unreasonable.

Gettingbysomehow · 18/01/2024 10:28

I love it. Every minute of it. I was born in the big snow winter of 1962/63 and my mother brought me home in that to a freezing cottage in the countryside. We both survived.

reflecting2023 · 18/01/2024 10:29

Haha are you the joy police ?
No seriously if you were talking about competitive SM posts I could maybe understand but let people feel happy if they enjoy the scenery etc. I'm glad I'm not in work today would've cursing it if so

Flamango · 18/01/2024 10:30

Do you think people liking snow will make it
more likely to snow?
Because otherwise what possible difference could it make to you?

Umph · 18/01/2024 10:30

Killjoy.

CattingAbout · 18/01/2024 10:31

I live in SW England and snow significant enough to close schools and cause travel disruption is really rare here, once every couple of years at most I'd say. So it is kind of exciting when it happens..

I can see it might get annoying if it was a lot more often though. Although if it happened loads, the UK would have to spend more on managing the disruption.

5foot5 · 18/01/2024 10:31

I don't like the disruption if there is somewhere I need to be and my journey is going to be either difficult or impossible. If we visit family we have to go to the other side of the country, which means using a high exposed road that is often closed in bad weather. The occasional pre Christmas get together has had to be cancelled because of snow.

But if I have no commitments or travel plans I appreciate the scenery and when the snow has stopped I like to wrap up warm and go out for a walk in it. And I am no kid, I am in my 60s!

tennesseewhiskey1 · 18/01/2024 10:32

Fucking hell you sound miserable.

May09Bump · 18/01/2024 10:32

Nope - I love the snow (yes a pain sometimes if being practical) - I also look at the stars on a clear night. I forget about adulting for a minute or two when doing both of these.

piscofrisco · 18/01/2024 10:33

What a miserable post.

Crayfishforyou · 18/01/2024 10:35

Fun police.
What’s it to you what weathers people enjoy?

I love the snow. It’s beautiful to look at, dampens sound and I love the feeling of crunching through it.
One day I shall have a snowy holiday, and crunch about in it all day.

TempleOfBloom · 18/01/2024 10:37

I am in my early 60s and have dug my sledge out of the shed… nothing as thrilling as sledging to take your mind off the other miseries due to snow and otherwise!

BeyondMyWits · 18/01/2024 10:40

Snow is lovely to look at... from inside. Lovely to be out in... when it's on the grass not the road or the pavement.

Going off snow as I get older. In laws live in the middle of bloody nowhere and like to have a crisis when it is hard to get to them... it CAN'T be coincidence, it has happened too often that way.

Walking to work in the snow/ice/slush is no fun now it's hard to get up if I fall... and the spatial awareness, balance and ability to adjust quickly is no longer as good as in my youth.

So, when I retire and can look at a beautiful snowfall without having to be anywhere I'll enjoy it.

Sunday12 · 18/01/2024 10:40

try not to ‘hate’ anything
I love the snow. I text my friends and neighbours if I see the first flake and I get my children out to play in it whatever time of night.
I actually think accepting and finding joy in the natural world is key to happiness
look for beauty and happiness instead of looking for frustrations and being bitter about people who enjoy different weather conditions. It’s life.

Housebuyer37 · 18/01/2024 10:41

Fucking hell, let us live!

MeinKraft · 18/01/2024 10:42

You can stand around tutting at the sky as much as you like but you won't stop the snow from falling, might as well enjoy it!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 18/01/2024 10:43

I hate snow. It really stresses me out.

I don't think people getting enjoyment from something should grow up though. We don't have to be miserable all the time.

ManateeFair · 18/01/2024 10:43

Resenting other people for being moderately less miserable than you is a pretty sad way to live your life.

You don't have to like snow, but you also don't have to drain every scrap of pleasure out of other people's lives, so just let people enjoy things. It's not like snow is somehow caused by people liking it.

Snow itself can have a negative impact. People enjoying snow has no negative impact and does you zero harm.

MeinKraft · 18/01/2024 10:45

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 18/01/2024 10:07

I love it in countries where they are capable of dealing with it. In the UK it causes problems because they’re just total amateurs and handling it. My car has winter tyres and 4WD and takes on snow like a boss. It’s the unprepared others which make it risky for me.

The right shoes and clothing and it’s lovely.

Here is your medal oh superior one 🏅

ManateeFair · 18/01/2024 10:46

LunaandLily · 18/01/2024 10:25

Agree OP. Hate snow, and probably started hating it with adulthood and responsibility. It’s shit and disruptive.

That's fine, but what's that got to do with anyone else enjoying it?

Hippomumma · 18/01/2024 10:47

Get a grip. How miserable do you have to be to feel judgey about people enjoying the snow? Jeezo.

Crikeyalmighty · 18/01/2024 10:47

@TempleOfBloom you go girl!!

GasPanic · 18/01/2024 10:48

I like it. It's beautiful and changes the landscape in an amazing way.

But aside from living in an area where it occurs less, there isn't much choice about whether it is going to come or not.

Probably best to learn to deal with it, like a hundred other things in life rather than hate something you can't do anything about.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 18/01/2024 10:48

Bugger off and stop spoiling it. Cmon the snow!⛄️ ❄️

GintyMcGinty · 18/01/2024 10:48

I get why some people don't like it. I could call them names for not liking snow but as a grown up I know that wouldn't be very nice and I also know that its ok for people to like different things.

Personally I love it. Love going sledging with the kids. Love the view from my window. Much prefer it to freezing rain.
