To wonder what happened to Janet and is she ok?

Trying to keep this concise and sort of lighthearted as it's weirding me out.

DH friend Dave was/is married to Janet. He met up with Dave for gigs etc as they have a shared music interest. Janet also went to gigs with them as did her best friend, Sally. I met Janet and Sally quite a few times and all very friendly.

Six months ago Dave and Janet suddenly split up due to his excessive drinking, apparently. He's now sober and came around last night, and introduced Sally as his girlfriend! We had a pleasant enough evening but I just wanted to ask 'where is Janet? Are you still friends with her Sally? Was this an affair? Does she know?

I know it's none of my business and DH doesn't know anything but it's like Janet never existed and that her and Sally were never bestfriends. Sally was talking away quite happily about their plans and future and they're moving in together, but no mention of Janet.

It's makes me want to shout JANET and see if she metaphorically appears.

She did exist as I met her!

Am I losing it? Is this weird? Should I ask?

I knew of a Sally and Janet once, always seemed like something suspicious was going on..

I'd have just asked them.

My curiosity would always win out over any ideas of proper politeness.

Hopefully Janet is alive and well somewhere making new better friends

Call her Janet by mistake a couple of times and then say you're confused!

You heed to get pally with Sally, go on a night out to the pub, get her drunk and, because you're her new bestie, she'll spill the beans on the Janet situation.

My husband has a friend who I met twice in a three year period. Different wife each time. Not just partner. DIFFERENT WIFE.

Asked my husband ‘so… what is up with that’ and he said all he knew was that his friend had just broken up with first wife and then knew new wife through work, moved in to her place fast, was put on her mortgage and took on her kids. Within months of separating.

When I said ‘you know your friend had an affair right?’ he was like OH.

Someone I know was married to a real life Janet for many years. He’s a keen runner and is now with a new Janet who has since developed a love of running. I personally would be running in a straight like as far away as I could. I also hope Janet one is living her best life too.

I bet they were itching for you to ask them!

I want to ask my neighbour a similar thing. He had a nice partner called "Susan" and they lived here before us.

I'd chat to "Susan" and "Barry" a fair bit - mainly as we all had dogs and we'd chat when coming back from/going to walk with the dogs or just generally when out and about.

Then one day about 2yrs ago - after quite a few months of not seeing "Susan" I saw "Barry" and he said "oh yes this is 'Mary'". And now "Mary" lives there.

"Mary" seems fine - albeit much louder and more annoying than "Susan"... but where the hell is "Susan"?!

I join you in being desperate to ask 🤣.

(As a nineties teen I desperately hope "Susan" isn't under the patio, Brookside style 🤐).

I think I would have to ask as I am q nosey 😅 Couldn't you have cornered Sally on her own and said do you see much of Janet these days?

Anyone else seeing this as a film plot?
I want the ending to be we cut to Janet and she’s lying on some tropical beach being poured a drink by a handsome young man.

Some men are shit at getting the goss. Reminds me of that Micky Flanagan bit where his wife says "did you ask how Tony's wife was?" And he says "I didn't even ask how Tony was!"

I'm invested as to the whereabouts of Janet now also. Poor Janet.

I knew a situation like this but with let’s call them Mary the wife & Joan Mary’s friend. They would come to the pub with Mary’s husband. Both very quiet, wore very old fashioned shabby clothes, scraped back greasy hair.

Ond day husband appeared with Joan only & Mary was never mentioned again.

About2 years later in a pub & shiny haired, immaculately dressed smiley woman started chatting to me. It took me a couple of minutes to realise it was Mary

I think they would have spun you a web of lies, tbh, if you had asked.

I bet they have both rewritten history. Now only Janet knows the truth - it's your duty to find out what happened, OP!
