Breaking news; UK signing off on air strikes against Yemen. Is this just going to get worse ?

Since having kids this honestly petrifies me. This world is a mess! I feel like it's one thing since another ever since Covid nothing has felt the same at all! Life before that almost feels completely different and a blur ! Anyone else?

Get a grip. A few bothersome terrorists who live in an obscure, unimportant Middle Eastern country are about to get obliterated. A fate which they deserve, and which they will presumably welcome as ‘martyrdom’. Whatever.

The media will get excited for a couple of days, or at least until something more interesting happens, at which point the unfortunate ex-Houthis will be forgotten.

I’m bloody angry that we’ve decided to throw our cap into the ring, again with America, for another war that shouldn’t even be on our radar. Always us, whilst the rest of the world are probably rolling their eyes and thinking there they go again. It just puts a target on our backs.

Notthatcatagain · 12/01/2024 00:20

The strikes have already started.

WandaWonder · 12/01/2024 00:21

No because what is the point? what would it help?

Nah, turn off the news and get on with your life. They like to keep us in a state of perpetual fear.

I deleted social media too, that was helpful.

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen U.K. people on the streets supporting terrorists? Odd comment?

Flanjango · 12/01/2024 00:23

The only reason to be scared is that there seems to be endless money for wars but ask for the poor to be fed...nope we have nothing. Warmongers..trace the money, capitalists make money from war. They will continue to create them till the money train stops.

Nothing says it’s election year more than a made up war in the Middle East. These things don’t happen by accident. 60% of people around the world will be voting in national elections this year. And this is engineered to get the ‘right’ result in many of those countries including the US.

Not a conspiracy theory, just realpolitik.

Grantanow · 12/01/2024 00:25

The adverse impact on our economy meant the government had to act and it's clear they briefed Labour in advance.

This.

The best thing you could do.

Alcyoneus · 12/01/2024 00:32

The Houthis fire rockets costing $1k each. And the US and its allies respond with missiles costing $1 million each.

It’s a very nicely orchestrated conflict which keeps the defence industry ticking over and thriving with (mostly US) tax dollars. And in an election year, Ukraine just didn’t cut it. It’s old news. The public are a little tired of it. A new fresh conflict was needed. Surprise, surprise, delivered right on time.

Come on, if you still fall for this stuff being about good and bad and right and wrong, you are naive.

QueenBitch666 · 12/01/2024 01:00

Stop watching the news and crack on with your life

For most of our history us Brits have been at war with other nations.

We have a terrible legacy in the world.

We are/were the ones that scare people.

But - we did not know.

TV, internet etc have changed the scape.

calimali · 11/01/2024 22:14

Cynic in me says it's a very unpopular government and PM looking for a distraction.

Why choose this conflict when there are plenty of other conflicts we could have got involved in? It's all about timing. We have elections looming.

A war we cannot afford.

You realise just how dependant we are upon that trade route? Do you not realise that if more merchant shipping lines follow Maersk and divert around the Cape because Iranian-backed militants keep firing at them it will unleash yet more inflation upon us?

DdraigGoch · 12/01/2024 02:15

Tattletwat · 11/01/2024 22:23

There's plenty of wars going on at any given time. Israel and Gaza has been volatile for a long time. Ukraine actually started back in 2014.
And many other states.

Israel and Gaza had been making progress. Gazans were crossing the border for work. Various Middle Eastern Governments were looking favourably upon the US's peace plan. Iran didn't want that, so it helped Hamas pull the rug from underneath the peace process.

The time for worrying is when we get pro Yemen marches on our streets in support of Houthi

I'm sure that Jeremy Corbyn is planning one as we speak.

Missingmyusername · 12/01/2024 03:26

Since I had children yes. As Ricky Gervais said “we’re using it all up”. All land, resources, the population is exploding and will continue to do so, we’ve stopped evolving.
There’s no unlimited supply of resources, nature doesn’t have a magic tree.

HelpMeGetThrough · 12/01/2024 05:06

Nope, none of it bothers me and I take no notice.

Turn off the news and ignore the doom and gloom, it's been like it for decades and the media love a good war/disaster.

Theatrefan12 · 11/01/2024 22:57

Complete waste of energy to be terrified as let’s be honest none of us can change the outcome, whether it’s good or bad

Life is too short as it is to spend mental effort worrying about something that you cannot influence (and passing that fear on to kids)

Precisely.
Just what do you think being terrified is going to achieve?
I can’t influence the Government’s actions so can you?

decisionssmecisions · 12/01/2024 06:14

It is more important that ships full of containers of consumer goods destined for European and U.S. Eastern seaboard markets are not delayed for a few weeks than it is to use these same military deterrents to intervene in Gaza to stop 100 children being blown to bits every day.

Proof that we are ruled by corporate barons who care only for 💰 , not by civil servants serving and protecting the people 👶

Posts like this baffle me! It surely isn’t a shock that we have a capitalist economic policy? There will be lots of people here who do not want food prices to rise.

Being thick tonight, but what did Stephen fry mean with that quote from Titanic?

It basically means "do what makes you happy because you could die tomorrow".

RobertaFirmino · 11/01/2024 22:30

I expect there will be bombings, just as there always has been. Fenians, Nazis, the IRA, Al Qaeda, random nutcases, even the suffragettes were at it!

Why bother worrying about it? If you get blown up yourself, you won't know a thing about it. You could argue that an instantaneous death, with no prior knowledge of what is to happen isn't the worst way of going.

In any case, this is Great Britain. Falling to pieces simply will not do. Did we let Hitler get the better of us? No, we jolly well didn't! A stiff upper lip is what is required here, along with endless cups of tea.

You forget the west love to bomb other countries too, pretending to be decent. Yes UK AND US looking at you, and I'm a European western too.

Perfect28 · 12/01/2024 06:21

There's always money for war. We probably spent in one night half the NHS budget for the year. There's always money for war.
