Breaking news; UK signing off on air strikes against Yemen. Is this just going to get worse ?

Since having kids this honestly petrifies me. This world is a mess! I feel like it's one thing since another ever since Covid nothing has felt the same at all! Life before that almost feels completely different and a blur ! Anyone else?

And those who think it won’t impact them, tax payers money pays for such air attacks. Why can’t the UK government just butt out of this one?

ships diverting will impact the economy though…

decisionssmecisions · 11/01/2024 22:28

No terrorist revenge attacks? Twin towers? Lockerbie?

Are excuses needed? The war on terror is the obvious one anyway.

RobertaFirmino · 11/01/2024 22:30

I expect there will be bombings, just as there always has been. Fenians, Nazis, the IRA, Al Qaeda, random nutcases, even the suffragettes were at it!

Why bother worrying about it? If you get blown up yourself, you won't know a thing about it. You could argue that an instantaneous death, with no prior knowledge of what is to happen isn't the worst way of going.

In any case, this is Great Britain. Falling to pieces simply will not do. Did we let Hitler get the better of us? No, we jolly well didn't! A stiff upper lip is what is required here, along with endless cups of tea.

HRTQueen · 11/01/2024 22:31

Not scared but very pissed off

There are enough issues in the area and when will the US and UK learn

Thelootllama · 11/01/2024 22:31

I'm old enough to remember when the IRA was planting bombs a few miles down the road.

It's not a race to the bottom and all that, but this shit has been going on for centuries.

lm with you OP. I’m really not a conspiracy theorist but I have become very suspicious of our media particularly since Hamas attacked Israel. There is so much to say and it’s not being said. Another high level Iranian General ,was targeted and killed a couple of weeks ago by drone and I think Iran will bide their time but will retaliate. Iran has suggested they will prevent travel through the Strait of Gibraltar. Yesterday the words of the Swedish defence minister about being prepared for war. Today we are ramping up action alongside the US against the Iranian backed Houthis in Yemen and Iran have seized an oil tanker today in the gulf of Oman. Things are ramping up and so yes im scared,

Come on will people believe any old crap spouted by the Iranians, how they going to stop travel through Gibraltar, geographly they are miles away, they would have no supply routes are anything.

Also the UK Navy and USA Navy and NATO will under no circumstances let that happen.

hogmanayhoolie · 11/01/2024 22:36

@MumblesParty The threat from terrorists is already here

No point worrying about it

decisionssmecisions · 11/01/2024 22:43

The economy does matter though & many people won’t want higher prices.

The UK and the USA have decided to bomb Yemen because of a rebel group called the Houthi.
The OP is concerned about revenge attacks.
That's about it really.

Theatrefan12 · 11/01/2024 22:57

Complete waste of energy to be terrified as let’s be honest none of us can change the outcome, whether it’s good or bad

Life is too short as it is to spend mental effort worrying about something that you cannot influence (and passing that fear on to kids)

Okay thank you.

Is this actually something to be worried about?

hogmanayhoolie · 11/01/2024 23:02

The time for worrying is when we get pro Yemen marches on our streets in support of Houthi

StitchInLime · 11/01/2024 23:03

Biggest issue in the UK is the impact on an already struggling economy and also items being unavailable / delivered late as it’s a pretty important trading route. But beyond that, as others have said, war is always happening and for the past 80ish years, we Brits are among the lucky few who don’t have the horror of having to endure the more violent consequences of wars like this, unlike other countries. So don’t worry about it reaching these shores beyond the impact on the economy. Big worry for innocent civilians caught up in it over there though.

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 11/01/2024 23:07

Thank you!

I feel better better about it now

sagalooshoe · 11/01/2024 23:09

It's the children that always, always suffer. Then they grow up bitter and full of anger and hate - and so the cycle goes on.

The children of Yemen must be terrified.

It needs to stop. I wish the world would grow the fuck up.

doublexegg · 11/01/2024 23:14

dont worry to much.
Many many years ago when i was 9 we had a really elderly couple next door he was talking to my dad one day about ww2.
And i over overheard him say to my dad well bert thats how it is i think we will have ww in uk in years to come when im long gone because that goverment cant keep up with the population and need to kill us off some how and blame it on some other county invading us.
I never forgot it never will and it scared me for weeks.
Ask my mum is it true what can we do she replied with dont own to much have less to re build.
I ask my day he said we have an army no worries A.
No help what so ever.
I still think from time to time was my neighbour saying something that had truth in it.

Silly i know.
But i did take mums advice i became a minimalist 😁nothing to lose less to re build.

BeaRF75 · 11/01/2024 23:15

Wars have been happening for thousands of years. Terrorism is always with us. Civilians were directly at risk of death in the UK within living memory. It baffles me that people have no sense of history. And, as mentioned above, why be "terrified" of something you can't control - it's just a waste of energy.

solsticelove · 11/01/2024 23:28

I saw this and it puts into perspective why we don’t need to watch the news and know about every world disaster and war.
OP the media just want to keep you in fear. Fear sells sadly.

ANOTHER war. Anyone else feel terrified of what could come
Somatosensational · 11/01/2024 23:29

I used to read the news religiously but it's been less and less over the past year. A friend told me that she's been watching the news and crying for Palestinians every day since the start of the latest war which I think is extremely unhealthy and I'm quite worried about her. I get that awful things are going on in the world but there always will be, and the vast majority of it is beyond our control.

I do worry, especially for younger generations. And those who think it won’t impact them, tax payers money pays for such air attacks. Why can’t the UK government just butt out of this one?

A massive chunk of our economy hinges on safe transportation of goods. You might nit think this impact you, but it does. Massively.

Isn’t it to do with ships stopped in the Red Sea

That’s an issue for many countries

Snugglemonkey · 11/01/2024 23:34

I am not terrified. I grew up in Belfast during the troubles. You cannot let the shite get to you. Chin up, on you go.

MercanDede · 11/01/2024 23:39

It’s infuriating this Operation Prosperity Guardian.

It is more important that ships full of containers of consumer goods destined for European and U.S. Eastern seaboard markets are not delayed for a few weeks than it is to use these same military deterrents to intervene in Gaza to stop 100 children being blown to bits every day.

Proof that we are ruled by corporate barons who care only for 💰 , not by civil servants serving and protecting the people 👶

Being thick tonight, but what did Stephen fry mean with that quote from Titanic?
