Drink wine in the bath that is? Watching a film and the main character just had a glass of red wine whilst having a bath.

I'm 50 and I think I gave it a go once maybe 20 years ago, decided that the combo of alcohol and a hot bath was terrible and have never done it since.

YANBU: of course no one does this other than in films, what a terrible idea

YABU: wine in the bath is one of the main joys in life, you're missing out you pleb

Nope. I a,so don't read - pages get soggy or iPad destroyed or stay there for longer than it takes to wash me and my hair.

Dorriethelittlewitch · 11/01/2024 21:45

As a student aged 18 to 21 I liked sharing baths with other people lit by candlelight whilst drinking wine.

Now in my mid 40s, I tend to retreat to the bath with a book, no wine, candles or other people in sight.

neverbeenskiing · 11/01/2024 21:49

I absolutely LOVE a glass of wine in the bath listening to a podcast or some relaxing music. Have been known to take chocolate or a slice of cake up with me as well.

billycat321 · 11/01/2024 21:53

Baths are boring. Much prefer a shower.

Sparklybanana · 11/01/2024 20:02

Yes it felt a bit forced when I did it. Perhaps my bathroom needed to be more spa like and less play school though.

🤣

Pastaeverywhere · 11/01/2024 21:56

The only time I have is when staying in a hotel with young DC who go to bed early.

Getabloominmoveon · 11/01/2024 21:56

You lushes! I like your style. As a fellow bathophile, I also like some gentle multitasking in the tub. This regularly includes drinking tea, watching Netflix, listening to the Archers, cake sometimes etc. But I haven’t dared go as far as a Mumsnetter who admitted, on a working from home thread, that she had a bath whilst
in a Teams meeting. On mute and with the camera off, but nerves of steel needed for that one!

Paw2024 · 11/01/2024 21:56

@frogswimming I like to boil myself
Long story but basically I'm allergic to heat and exercise and have been since I was 12
Now on an injectable drug that works Grin so I love doing stuff I couldn't like a hot bath or wearing a coat or exercise! It's so novel to be able to

notacooldad · 11/01/2024 21:59

It's an eye mask and a true crime podcast for me in the bath!

Quickredfox · 11/01/2024 22:01

19lottie82 · 11/01/2024 21:07

I do like a shower beer.

Wine in the bath is OK but shower beer is so much better

EconomyClassRockstar · 11/01/2024 22:06

I'm having a glass of wine in the bath as I scroll through MN on my phone right now. They're a great combination!

Yetanothernamechangeagain · 11/01/2024 22:09

The last time I had a glass of wine in the bath was many years ago.

I had obviously run it a bit too hot and the last thing I remember was feeling a bit dizzy as I got out.

I must have knocked the wine glass over as I passed out.

exDP came in to find me unconscious on the floor with a pool of dark red liquid spreading out from behind my head and thought that I had died 😂

Terrible waste of wine

Bowbobobo · 11/01/2024 22:09

The one time I did it was on my hen night, after being stood up by all the hens. Felt like a loser and have never done it again in 34 years 😂

boobot1 · 11/01/2024 22:12

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 11/01/2024 20:02

Wine and book in the bath are the best thing! Such a lovely way to relax

Agree, did it tonight

Messyhair321 · 11/01/2024 21:41

I didn't think many people have baths anymore let alone wine while they're having one

Why?

SD1978 · 11/01/2024 22:15

I used to love eating yoghurt in the bath........because I'd get too hot and the yoghurt cooled me down.......

Oh my god. Awful.

BlueGrey1 · 11/01/2024 22:21

Never done it and have no desire to do it, but then again I haven’t had a bath in years, it takes too long to fill the tub and I feel it gets cold too quickly.
A glass of wine before a bath to be nice and relaxed beforehand is something I could possibly understand

Riverlee · 11/01/2024 22:22

Nope - no candles, wine or books.

That’s awful, the being let down that is. Did they apologise? What was the reason? Did them come to your wedding?

neverbeenskiing · 11/01/2024 22:27

it takes too long to fill the tub and I feel it gets cold too quickly.

Face mask on and start a podcast while waiting for the tub to fill, don't fill it quite as high as you'd ideally want it then you can keep topping up the hot water once you feel it starting to cool. Problem solved!

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 11/01/2024 22:34

Sturmundcalm · 11/01/2024 20:50

I genuinely don't get this concern. I regularly have a nap in the bath. always had a normal sized bath and I'm an normal sized person (5' 7", size 14) - cannot imagine any way in which i could slide down enough to drown without the sheer discomfort waking me up!

and OP, i voted YABU - i normally have sober baths but i do occasionally have a cocktail (ice/insulated glass) and it does feel v decadent and like a treat.

@Sturmundcalm

imagine being 4'10 in a long bath.

i think id splutter though. I can't see myself drowning.

Boomboomshakeshaketheroom · 11/01/2024 22:37

I'm with you OP. tried it once - even bought the across-the-bath holder thingy with a spot for the glass! - and realised it was a stupid idea.

Beastiesandthebeauty · 11/01/2024 22:38

I love it but only a proper chill bubble bath. Not worth it with 20 people waddling in to pooo pee and chat my ears off

Octavia64 · 11/01/2024 22:39

I love a good hot bath.

Prefer a nice cold drink of water though.

I have tried reading in the bath but my glasses got steamed up and it didn't do the book any good either. The pages got all frizzled.

These days I listen to music or podcasts.
