Drink wine in the bath that is? Watching a film and the main character just had a glass of red wine whilst having a bath.

I'm 50 and I think I gave it a go once maybe 20 years ago, decided that the combo of alcohol and a hot bath was terrible and have never done it since.

YANBU: of course no one does this other than in films, what a terrible idea

YABU: wine in the bath is one of the main joys in life, you're missing out you pleb

Not interested in a bath let alone all the accompanying rubbish.

As a pp said, why lie in a hard bath when you can be cozy and comfy in bed.

OllyBJolly · 11/01/2024 22:54

Oh no! I even have a special bath tray that holds a glass of wine, a book and a candle! (Best present ever!)

Love it - I’ll run in some more hot water just to extend the pleasure.

Paulisexcluded · 11/01/2024 22:55

Like a wine in the bath, also a whisky with ice occasionally.

LittleBrownBaby · 11/01/2024 22:57

Once a week wine in the bath while watching masterchef: the professionals, obvs.

Ghostlight · 11/01/2024 22:59

I can't as my bath is really slopey and quite shallow so if you're relaxing and leaning back to be properly in the water, it would be a terrible angle for drinking.
Accidentally tipping wine on my face or sipping it through a straw feels like it would ruin the vibe.

QuestionableMouse · 11/01/2024 23:04

If you want to be really cosy, get the water the temp you want then cover yourself with a towel. It keeps the water warm!

Hilwee · 11/01/2024 23:06

I dunno, it usually smells of farts in the bathroom so that would put me off the wine

ManateeFair · 11/01/2024 23:06

My mum loves a glass of wine or a G&T in the bath so much that my brother bought her a special bath tray thing that has a little circular space in it to stand a glass and a thing to prop up a book.

I don’t regularly have a glass of wine in the bath but it’s certainly something I’ve done on occasion. It’s particularly enjoyable in a nice hotel.

Hilwee · 11/01/2024 23:07

@Fullofxmascbeer because it heats up the weary bones 🦴

TheChosenTwo · 11/01/2024 23:10

I’ve got one of those bath trays, it has a little slot for a wineglass but I don’t drink wine in the bath, I don’t really drink it at all!
My bath is very close to the toilet and for me the bathroom is not a place for food.
on my bath tray I usually put my phone for Netflix or a book, facemask and facecloth, electric cigarette and a bottle of water in case I overheat 😂
And I have a nap most bath times. Decadence.

Wanttobeok · 11/01/2024 23:12

Not sure the mould in my bathroom quite lends itself to the glass of wine thing tbh

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 11/01/2024 23:19

The idea makes me shudder - combination of water, slippery hard surfaces, naked skin and easily broken/fragile glass is v offputting to a clumsy person like me.

I have a friend that raves about doing this. She genuinely loves it and banged on about it so much I tried it, then realised why I never bothered before. Baths are either too cold for me to get into comfortably or too hot to sit in for more than five minutes.

Go in warmish and run the hot taps once your in

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 11/01/2024 23:27

I do this at least once a week.

rustlerwaiter · 11/01/2024 23:29

Not wine but I don't mind a couple of bottles of beer in the bath. Proper scalding hot water, ice cold beers, top notch.

laclochette · 11/01/2024 23:31

Tried it and hated it. The wine gets way too warm. Even big red wines should be served slightly below room temperature (18 degrees max), and too warm wine is one of my biggest pet peeves!

If you want to be really cosy, get the water the temp you want then cover yourself with a towel. It keeps the water warm!

Or just get into bed surely?

Ah don't mind me. I can't see the appeal of baths. I can't wash my hair in the bath and I don't like strands of hair all over my body. I don't like sitting in water that is rapidly going tepid. I don't like sitting in water just waiting.....and waiting.... to get out.

I remember staying in a very naice hotel when I was pregnant with DC1. DH (kindly) booked a massage and for some unknown reason it was followed by a seaweed bath. I got into the bath, sat there for two minutes wondering WTF I was supposed to do and awkwardly eased myself out of the steep bath, wrapped myself in a towel and sat on a chair until I heard the knock on the door asking me was I ready to come out. I quickly splashed some water around with my hand and called out I was ready.

I have a few out of date 'spa treatment' days lying in an unused drawer.

Now give me an Indian head massage and I will happily relax for hours!!!!

HunterBidensBurnerPhone · 11/01/2024 20:41

Just remembered that when I was a scummy student I would also sometimes smoke in the bath Blush

😆😆😆

Wine or a cup of tea and a magazine or phone in the bath here.

When I was younger (late teens) and would come back from Camp on a Sunday evening I would have a hot bath and eat my roast dinner in the bath!

😫🤣🤣🤣

WingingItSince1973 · 11/01/2024 23:42

Not as classy as wine but I've eaten my main dinner in the bath before and pudding! Always take a cup of tea in the bath too 😂

TeaToastIsAll · 11/01/2024 23:43

'Yes it felt a bit forced when I did it. Perhaps my bathroom needed to be more spa like and less play school though.'

😂 I think it's mandatory to have one of those stand alone tubs, with the fancy feet, if partaking in such an activity. Tea or pop works in my play school bathroom only.

TeaToastIsAll · 11/01/2024 23:45

Oh no to food in the bath, 🤮 I'm picturing bits falling in.

HRTQueen · 11/01/2024 23:46

no I have a cup of tea

I only drink wine with a meal and don’t fancy that while I’m in the bath

Tiredandannoyed2023 · 11/01/2024 23:48

I love wine but don’t like baths. I’m a shower girl but wine in the shower just wouldn’t work!!

Christmasnutcracker · 11/01/2024 23:59

rainbowbee · 11/01/2024 21:32

When I had a bathtub... I would bring a good whiskey with two ice cubes. A cold glass of water on the side. The window just cracked open a little. And I would also have one illicit cigarette looking up into the steam. And Vivaldi in the background.
Sometimes I really miss that (although I'll never smoke again).

That makes me want a cig more than a bath tbh.

Its years and years since I smoked yet the memory evoked from reading your post and the feeling of relaxation from inhaling a cig never quite leaves............
