Drink wine in the bath that is? Watching a film and the main character just had a glass of red wine whilst having a bath.

I'm 50 and I think I gave it a go once maybe 20 years ago, decided that the combo of alcohol and a hot bath was terrible and have never done it since.

YANBU: of course no one does this other than in films, what a terrible idea

YABU: wine in the bath is one of the main joys in life, you're missing out you pleb

Absolutely! Bubbles +good book + wine = the perfect bath

PanickingAgainNow · 11/01/2024 20:04

why not, it gets diluted so it’s fine 😀

And it's sterile anyway.

But I don't drink wine in the bath as I brush my teeth when I'm in there and you can't really combine the two.

SauronsArsehole · 11/01/2024 20:21

Last night I had the windows in the bathroom wide open. Hot bath, cup of tea, brisk -1 air. Slept like a baby.

Zanatdy · 11/01/2024 20:23

Never tried it I don’t think, but I don’t get reading or drinking wine in the bath. I never have one anyway, only when pregnant and I guess that’s when you’re not drinking. Much prefer a quick shower, in and out as soon as washed

Octomingo · 11/01/2024 20:26

Baths promise so much, but rarely deliver.

If I want to be warm and cosy, without mess and faff, I can take wine and a book up to bed. I'm too tall for the right bath experience, anyway.

scrivette · 11/01/2024 20:26

Wine or a cup of tea and a magazine or phone in the bath here.

When I was younger (late teens) and would come back from Camp on a Sunday evening I would have a hot bath and eat my roast dinner in the bath!

Wine makes me pee and I can't pee in the bath.

Why not, it warms the bath water back up, without needing to turn the hot tap

😂

NeptunaOfTheMermaidBattleSquadron · 11/01/2024 20:39

I wouldn't dare drink alcohol in the bath in case I fell asleep and drowned, it seems to happen to so many celebrities!

RampantIvy · 11/01/2024 20:40

I'm always worried about knocking the wine glass over, and it doesn't taste the same out of a plastic beaker.

I prefer to have a soak in the bath just before bed, and prefer my wine just before and with food, so it's a no from me.

HunterBidensBurnerPhone · 11/01/2024 20:40

I drink wine in the bath! The trick is not to have the bath too hot. I sometimes eat chocolate too.

lunarleap · 11/01/2024 20:41

Yeah I'd never do it. No food or drink in the bath.

HunterBidensBurnerPhone · 11/01/2024 20:41

Just remembered that when I was a scummy student I would also sometimes smoke in the bath Blush

Royalbloo · 11/01/2024 20:42

Nah I agree, wine in the bath makes me feel weird and gross. Wine after bath is ace

goodnessmeits2024 · 11/01/2024 20:43

I spend up to two hours in the bath given the chance. Needs a few hot water top ups.

I wouldn't hesitate to take a large glass of wine with me but usually it's a pot of tea.

Bliss. Quiet undisturbed bliss.

DominiqueBernard · 11/01/2024 20:44

I hate baths. If I ever I forget this and have one by mistake, it lasts approx. 2 mins. The first minute is too hot and the second is too cold.
I occasionally take my coffee into the bathroom for while putting on moisturiser, washing hands (or tidying up) at the weekend. But not into the bath or shower.
One of my best friends has a bath with wine once or twice every week, she reads a book in there too and often eats a McDonald's in her wine bath too. So, yes, there are people who do it, but definitely not I.

For me the biggest issue, I'd alone in the house is, do I bring the bottle with me and risk it getting warm, or do I take the risk of running down the stairs soaking in a towel and run the risk of breaking my neck.

The answer here is clearly that you run cold water in the sink, and leave the bottle in the sink cold water.

TTCSoManyQuestions88 · 11/01/2024 20:45

Yes, I love doing this! I drink white or rose, so chilled, red is too much for a hot bath.

DeedlessIndeed · 11/01/2024 20:47

Normally I drink red, but agree that a crisp cold white in the bath is wonderful!

Somatosensational · 11/01/2024 20:48

No. The heat from the bath makes my blood pressure drop so I'd feel very drunk with a glass of wine too. I've nearly passed out a few times getting out the bath.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 11/01/2024 20:48

What!!! Best de-stressing thing you can ever do!! Loadsa bubbles, Vodka-coke, good book, and double raspberry magnum. 😋 heaven

DappledThings · 11/01/2024 20:48

I always have a glass of wine in the bath. One of DH's many excellent points is that at the sound of the bath running he will appear in the bath room to deliver me a glass without me having to request it.

Drink red. I always have wine in the bath and some chocolate. I listen to something on BBC Sounds.

I genuinely don't get this concern. I regularly have a nap in the bath. always had a normal sized bath and I'm an normal sized person (5' 7", size 14) - cannot imagine any way in which i could slide down enough to drown without the sheer discomfort waking me up!

and OP, i voted YABU - i normally have sober baths but i do occasionally have a cocktail (ice/insulated glass) and it does feel v decadent and like a treat.

Royalbloo · 11/01/2024 20:51

Of course you could fall asleep and drown - it would be like sleeping in a pool!

DifficultBloodyWoman · 11/01/2024 20:52

I used to in the pre-DH, pre-kids days.

Now, on the very rare occasions I have enough time for a bath, I’d have a bottle of Sprite and my iPad rather than wine and a book.
