Drink wine in the bath that is? Watching a film and the main character just had a glass of red wine whilst having a bath.

I'm 50 and I think I gave it a go once maybe 20 years ago, decided that the combo of alcohol and a hot bath was terrible and have never done it since.

YANBU: of course no one does this other than in films, what a terrible idea

YABU: wine in the bath is one of the main joys in life, you're missing out you pleb

No-one has baths anymore because they're just too expensive, & because you're sitting in your own dirt.

Has anyone in the history of the world caught diseases from themselves?

what is is about your own dirt that you fear?

2or3whatsittobe · 12/01/2024 20:58

Oh I love wine in the bath! Had one tonight in fact.

Giveandtaketime · 12/01/2024 21:00

The previous owners of our house installed a big jacuzzi bath ideal for relaxing with wine. I tried it & couldn't wait to get out 🤦‍♀️🤣
I enjoy a spa jacuzzi but I'm more of a shower person, so not for me.

nappysan · 12/01/2024 21:04

I drink a glass of wine in the bath at least twice a week in colder months of the year.
Simple pleasures…

FrostieBoabby · 12/01/2024 21:13

I get bored in the bath, 2 minutes after getting in I want out again so cannot see the appeal of drinking rapidly warming wine whilst watching my toes go wrinkly.

MissGroves · 12/01/2024 21:33

Candles, music and wine. Happens once every year sadly, thanks to being time poor. Yes, the hot water makes the wine more potent but it is bloody wonderful!

Isitautumnyet23 · 12/01/2024 21:39

Its my favourite thing - hot bath, loads of bubbles and glass of wine. Thats the perfect night in for me. I love my baths hot (obviously not uncomfortable hot!) and having a long soak. Sad but im so looking forward to that this weekend, especially when its so cold outside.

I have one most nights - i’ll make cutbacks in every other area if paying the water bill ever stops me 😅 Simple pleasures in life. I barely watch any tv in the week as would much rather soak in the bath in free time in the evening when everythings done and the kids are in bed. Bliss!

Backtoblack1 · 12/01/2024 21:43

I used to do this a lot but haven’t done for a while. I might need to resurrect this!

Ironingpile · 12/01/2024 21:47

No I feel too hot and bothered. I’m with you OP.

It does look good on the TV though!

Wine and book in the bath are the best thing! Such a lovely way to relax

Sounds like the most stressful thing ever to me! 😂

how do you drink AND read with only two hands? How do you not get the book wet? Where do you rest the book ?

trying to read while sliding around in a bubble Bath would raise my blood pressure to dangerous levels

gruberandassocs · 12/01/2024 22:06

Voted YABU but would swap the wine for a G&T with just 1 enormous ice cube and a slice of lime no books hate them getting soggy but candles and music....bliss Just remembered years ago I would take the innovations catalogue to the bath, never bought anything but it was good de stressy bath reading.

GettingStuffed · 12/01/2024 22:10

I don't drink when I'm in the bath DH has beer

VerbenaGirl · 12/01/2024 22:14

Love a bath. Love wine. Don’t think they mix. Other beverages (tea, coffee, water) yes, wine no.

If you have to worry about a bath causing you to sit in your own dirt it's probably worth either a) washing more often b) hosing yourself off after whatever pursuit makes you so incredibly filthy that you'll be sat in your own dirt if you take a bath in that state.

Hear me out. Forget all about wine in the bath. Really cold bottle of beer in a hot shower. Absolutely amazing, especially after a long / hard day. I do it very rarely but it's bliss.

Don’t get this either. Get in the shower. Wash. Get out of the shower. While I’m showering my hands are occupied. Don’t get the appeal of randomly standing naked with water falling on my head to drink anything. Get out. Dry. Get dressed. Sit somewhere comfy. Have a drink.

I love drinking tea and reading in the bath. I really struggle o relax so baths are perfect, you can't do anything EXCEPT relax.

I can’t relax on a hard surface with water getting in the way. It’s just not comfy.

ganglion · 12/01/2024 23:00

On the rare but lovely occasion I have a bath I always take a bottle of freezing cold water in with me. Pre children, I tried having a glass of red wine because I too had seen it in a film...not for me!

I'm not fearing catching anything. It just doesn't make you clean which is why most people have showers - apart from the affordability aspect

I don't know anyone who does a bath every night. But I guess if it's your luxury you time good for you

It is my only me time most of the time (I dont have much with work, kids, Husband works long hours) so even if its 20 minutes, i’d rather flop into the bath than flop in front of the tv. My friend bought a new flat with only a shower and I couldn’t imagine not having the option to have a bath.

I didn’t realise it was such a ‘Marmite’ thing before this thread-I thought most people have baths but it seems some people really dont like them.

Yes I've not had a bath in years, probably about 10! I've actually got a Japanese bath, but I don't remember the last time anyone used it
