Drink wine in the bath that is? Watching a film and the main character just had a glass of red wine whilst having a bath.

I'm 50 and I think I gave it a go once maybe 20 years ago, decided that the combo of alcohol and a hot bath was terrible and have never done it since.

YANBU: of course no one does this other than in films, what a terrible idea

YABU: wine in the bath is one of the main joys in life, you're missing out you pleb

I almost never have a bath but when I do I like a glass of wine (or a large Baileys).

I agree. It's bullshit isn't it?

It's like in TV programmes/dramas/comedies etc, you have a family - with some at the breakfast table, and one of the family members is in a rush. They don't sit down, they just grab a slice of toast, shove it in their mouth, and then stick their jacket and backpack on - and swan out of the door with the slice of toast in their fizzog! 😆

No-one does that. NO-ONE! Grin

I mean, people do, quite often

I love a wine in the bath. Book, candles, bubbles and wine!

A friend enjoys a WKD and a scroll through her socials.

I have never seen a better example of the class divide 🤣

Oh do all of those not liking baths take them under bright lights?
LED candles are a game changer. Or at the very least an Alexa bulb, you can turn the brightness right down then, and turn it to a nice warm colour. I sometimes have it red; I do not appreciate dh's jokes about that one!

The light isn’t the point. The point is the surface you are sitting on is hard, the water cools and anything out of the water gets cold. On a sofa under a fleece fully dressed this doesn’t happen. Neither does it happen in bed. Both are self evidently and objectively more comfy than a bath.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 12/01/2024 18:46

This is my relaxation haven.

I have a TV built into my bathroom so I switch between a book or a something to watch.. candles, wine and luxury oils/products.

(this isn’t my bathroom however it’s the same layout/style)

Lmaoq · 12/01/2024 18:47

I like doing something else in the bath

Scottishmama23 · 12/01/2024 18:50

Quite literally my favourite thing to do. Book, bath and a wine or a gin. Hubby even pours it and runs the bath for me. 💕👌🏻🍷

Prioryfodder · 12/01/2024 18:52

I totally agree. But I also hate it when someone is shown picking up the phone and putting it to one ear… and then switches it to the other ear. Surely everyone only has one ‘phone’ ear?

YouJustDoYou · 12/01/2024 18:58

I've done it with a cold white wine or a nice cold beer, which was actually really nice, whilst reading.

Kitkat2065 · 12/01/2024 19:03

I take the bottle in with me

Cupcakes2024 · 12/01/2024 19:04

I do it with a cuppa tea, so its possible

SmellyKat10 · 12/01/2024 19:05

wine in the bath is legit my hobby.

40andcounting · 12/01/2024 19:06

Before Xmas me and my partner went away for our bdays. Splurged on a huge room in a malmaison with a huge bath. We jumped in it with fizz. When we came back from a show and drinks later I was that cold I went straight back in and someone may have got a kebab and someone may have eaten it in the bath😂 never have I ever until that day but I must say I have no regrets

VampireWeekday · 12/01/2024 19:07

I love drinking tea and reading in the bath. I really struggle o relax so baths are perfect, you can't do anything EXCEPT relax.

Bath as hot and deep as I can manage, cold white wine in a stemless glass, movie on the laptop balanced on the loo.

I’ve got a bamboo bath bar which I put the iPad on. Movie, wine, plenty of bubbles. I’ve been known to take a bowl of olives too. I like my baths 😁

Pinkallium · 12/01/2024 19:17

Yes, absolute bliss, cold white wine + my kindle. If it’s summer time, I sometimes get DH to bring me a magnum ice cream when I’m 10 minutes in 😁

SerenChocolateMuncher · 12/01/2024 19:20

I've always assumed it is a contrived "pleasure" created for books and television. Surely no one really enjoys lying in rapidly cooling water for more than 15 minutes, maximum. It seems like a lot of effort to go to for a 15 minute read and a quick glug of wine.

Don't get me wrong, I love wine, books and candlelight, but not in the bath. Far better to get clean in the shower, put on some clean and comfortable clothes and spend some time sipping wine and reading a good book on the sofa, in front of a (preferably real) fire. Much better than lying in cold or cooling water with a soggy book.

I went to Weight Watchers years ago and remember how incredulous I always felt when they suggested treating yourself to "a nice warm bath with some 'lovely' bubblebath" to stop you craving a cream doughnut. Take my word for it, it doesn't work, unfortunately.

The whole idea reminds me of those threads that come up on here asking people to name things that are supposed to be nice, but really aren't. Like cut flower bouquets, spa days and body massages. Wine, book and candlelight baths are right up there with those things. Not enjoyable. Not nice.

SmellyKat10 · 12/01/2024 19:24

15 minutes?!

I can be in there for hours. I just keep topping up the hot water (and the wine…)

Crayfishforyou · 12/01/2024 19:46

I have a glass of wine in the bath every week, with candles. Sometimes I have posh chocolates too, and sometimes a chocolate fondue
I have a lovely lovely posh bathroom, with an amazing deep bath.

Flatulence · 12/01/2024 19:47

I do it occasionally - not often, though.
We have an enormous roll-top bath it's really lovely to have a deep soak with lots of bubbles, something brainless to watch (laptop on a chair next to the bath - no risk of it falling in) and a couple of glasses of wine.
It has to be when the weather is cold through - it can get far too warm otherwise!

I hate baths full stop. They always sound nice but once I get in I'm just bored, feeling my internal organs cooking. I can never get comfortable reading a book without getting the pages wet, and there's nowhere convenient to put a glass of wine as the sides of the bath are so high when I'm in it.

Grumble, grumble.......

Donna1001 · 12/01/2024 19:57

I have tried it, but I need a drink to cool me down as I have the water so hot.

its either a pint of cider or orange cordial, if no cider available.

Mirabellax · 12/01/2024 19:57

When I was about 14 I ran a bath, quickly biked up the chip shop and got some chips then went home and ate them in the bath once! I put them on one of those over the bath trays. I'm not sure why I thought it would be a good idea looking back, can't remember whether it was enjoyable or not but I've never done it again so I'm guessing not!!
