Drink wine in the bath that is? Watching a film and the main character just had a glass of red wine whilst having a bath.

I'm 50 and I think I gave it a go once maybe 20 years ago, decided that the combo of alcohol and a hot bath was terrible and have never done it since.

YANBU: of course no one does this other than in films, what a terrible idea

YABU: wine in the bath is one of the main joys in life, you're missing out you pleb

Sounds ideal, but I’m always hands full going upstairs, then I tend to sort the washing and bring a load down, so not practical and I like to be under the water slouched so really impractical. I’m another on my socials in there!

Justontherightsideofnormal · 12/01/2024 20:02

I always have a wine, cider or vodka with a bag of crisps or satsumas in the bath each evening …… well I did until I stopped drinking a week ago. No idea why? My DH normally has a beer or cup of tea in the bath too. I thought it was normal 😂

BlueFlint · 12/01/2024 20:03

Hear me out. Forget all about wine in the bath. Really cold bottle of beer in a hot shower. Absolutely amazing, especially after a long / hard day. I do it very rarely but it's bliss.

Flatpackedboxes · 12/01/2024 20:04

Hot bath, wine, vape, audible and sudoku. Pure bliss ❤️

Dallidalli · 12/01/2024 20:09

I had an ice lolly in the shower before but I'm a different kind of weirdo 😂

When I was about 14 I ran a bath, quickly biked up the chip shop and got some chips then went home and ate them in the bath once! I put them on one of those over the bath trays. I'm not sure why I thought it would be a good idea looking back, can't remember whether it was enjoyable or not but I've never done it again so I'm guessing not!!

Actually that sounds much nicer, though I probably wouldn't bother with the bath once I'd got back.

neighboursmustliveon · 12/01/2024 20:11

I loved a glass of wine in the bath! Our new house the bath is narrower so I don’t enjoy having one. But once a year I will and I always have a glass of wine!

I've always assumed it is a contrived "pleasure" created for books and television. Surely no one really enjoys lying in rapidly cooling water for more than 15 minutes, maximum. It seems like a lot of effort to go to for a 15 minute read and a quick glug of wine.

Don't get me wrong, I love wine, books and candlelight, but not in the bath. Far better to get clean in the shower, put on some clean and comfortable clothes and spend some time sipping wine and reading a good book on the sofa, in front of a (preferably real) fire. Much better than lying in cold or cooling water with a soggy book.

I went to Weight Watchers years ago and remember how incredulous I always felt when they suggested treating yourself to "a nice warm bath with some 'lovely' bubblebath" to stop you craving a cream doughnut. Take my word for it, it doesn't work, unfortunately.

The whole idea reminds me of those threads that come up on here asking people to name things that are supposed to be nice, but really aren't. Like cut flower bouquets, spa days and body massages. Wine, book and candlelight baths are right up there with those things. Not enjoyable. Not nice.

Edited

I can be in there for hours. You just put more hot water in.

Also cut flowers and good massages are fab.

You’ll be saying you don’t like sex next..

Can't stop thinking about dropping it and sitting naked in a bath of shattered glass

Deborah54 · 12/01/2024 20:18

Love a glass with a bath and a book. The only place I don’t get badgered.

See for me that's the loo, only without the glass of wine. That would be weird!

Although................

A bath, a book (kindle, easier) and wine is my idea of a good time

our bathroom is quite small but I got a big bath. I’m a bath person.

Cwtshcwtsh · 12/01/2024 20:32

I love a book in the bath but I like my baths steaming so I find alcohol dehydrates me too much. It’s a novel and a bottle of squash for me.

You see, I like the idea of my kindle in the bath, but I just know I’d drop it in.

Unless you hit it off rhe edge it would float, and if you did hit it off the edge and it smashed, surely you’d just get out and not just sit there?

Why?

Because we're all in the shower

When I had a bathtub... I would bring a good whiskey with two ice cubes. A cold glass of water on the side. The window just cracked open a little. And I would also have one illicit cigarette looking up into the steam. And Vivaldi in the background.
Sometimes I really miss that (although I'll never smoke again).

God. I think smoking is absolutely rank but this makes me want to take it up!

I love a glass of wine in the bath. Being enveloped in warm water, the fragrant bubbles, being forced to do nothing productive. I either read, prop the tablet on my over bath tray and watch a film, or play spa music. My ultimate treat is to take a second mini bottle of prosecco so I can stay longer. Or even more indulgent is to get out, dry off and cool down (I like my baths roasting), then get back in again.

I don't fancy tea in the bath despite it being my drink of choice at all other times. Cold wine is where it's at.

LittleGreenFroggie · 12/01/2024 20:35

Love a glass of wine or a bottle of beer in the bath, mainly after a race! I like my red wine slightly on the warm side so often put the bottle in the bath while it's running to warm it up! 😂 🍷

@Cwtshcwtsh my kindle is waterproof 👍

Sallyingon · 12/01/2024 20:37

Hot baths not good for my constitution have given up,.I persist with the wine (now and again)

Cantrushart · 12/01/2024 20:43

@mrskimsneakattack

I completely agree and would add that I also hate candles in the bath. It's really creepy. I think that I'll close my eyes to dunk my head back in the water, then open them to find a murderer looming over me ready to push my head back under.

No-one has baths anymore because they're just too expensive, & because you're sitting in your own dirt.

Doteycat · 12/01/2024 20:52

I love a bath. With a pink gin. And a podcast. And lots of bubbles and my candles. I have a lovely bath pillow and nothing is quite so nice as a having me a lovely bath and into fresh bedclothes.
I also always have fresh cut flowers in the house. Especially my bedroom. They give me joy every day.
