To think it's tragic if Michael Jackson was indeed innocent

It's a real shame for someone who created incredible music to have their legacy at risk. It’s just tragic, considering the impact his music had on so many. It's tragic either way, if he's guilty for the victims and if he's innocent for himself.

I'm a huge fan and at one point t thought he was guilty but kore recently change of heart. I think there would be more victims if he weee in fact guilty. Somethings doesnt add up.

It's tragic

@Terfosaurus that's the point, wade denied it well into his thirties

He was 30 when he revealed he had in fact been abused. He was only 36 when he did Leaving Neverland

I think accuracy is important here

@Mirabai Are you saying a court would convict on testimony alone?

@Mirabai Are you saying a court would convict on testimony alone?

Well Rolf Harris was convicted on testimony alone

nolongersurprised · 09/01/2024 22:55

Waiting for the apologists to say, “But lots of adults have ‘art books’ of naked children, in th same house where children sleep in bed with them”

Are you saying you don’t know how sex offence trials work?

Nameychango · 09/01/2024 22:56

I've wrangled with this myself over the years but now firmly believe he did those things 😢... for the following main reasons...

  1. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck quacks like a duck analogy It IS a duck ie SO many obvious red flags flying with his behaviour, obsession with children, documentaries. Just too many things.

2). Someone who requires propofol ie a general anaesthetic just so they can sleep at night has a LOT on their conscience

That's my thinking and i grew up liking him and still like his music, but it is blatantly obvious when you join the dots

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 23:00

@Mirabai You insinuated that a court will convict solely based on one word against the other. Do you have any case law to demonstrate this? It would be an interesting read.

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 23:01

@KarenNotAKaren Would be interesting to read the court documents on it although they aren't as readily available in this country as they are in America.

bettingpencil · 09/01/2024 23:07

If someone turned up at your place of work, holding an eight years olds hand that they weren't related to, saying this was their friend who they were having a sleepover with later, what would you think?

A) They're just childlike
B) They're a wrong un'

I think I've overshared here. I was too emotional reading all this. I'll ask MN to delete my comment x

Of course courts convict on one person’s word against another’s, I’m astonished frankly that you’re unaware of that. There may be supporting evidence, but there’s rarely forensic evidence - never in historic cases.

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 23:17

@Mirabai it's not solely one word against the other if there's supporting evidence. I read your post as saying someone can go into court with nothing other than their testimony and get a conviction.

WingingItSince1973 · 09/01/2024 23:17

My point of my emotional post was that please please don't underestimate how grooming works. It's slow and insidious and you don't know it's happening to you. There's reasons he targetted the families he did. He was smart and careful and also felt above all law as he openly showed the world what he was but knew he was too well loved and untouchable

That is the case, yes.

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 23:20

@Mirabai So a person can get a conviction on testimony alone and no supporting evidence? I'm trust trying to understand where you are coming from.

Mirabai · 09/01/2024 23:26

@Mirabai So a person can get a conviction on testimony alone and no supporting evidence? I'm trust trying to understand where you are coming from.

Sex offence cases often come to down to one person’s word against another’s. Defendants can be convicted on the complainant’s testimony alone, although in some cases there may be supporting evidence as well.

How do you think historic abuse cases work? What evidence do you think there would be 20 years later other than the complainant’s account?

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 23:27

@Mirabai Thank you for answering. So, playing devils advocate here, what if someone testified and it was all lies? Someone who was innocent would be sent to prison.

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 23:29

Also as far as I was aware, the CPS won't pursue a charge with no evidence as the chance of conviction is unlikely.

NotMYChild · 09/01/2024 23:29

Have you heard the maid’s witness account? There is no way he is innocent. I don’t think there is any grey area here. His music turns my stomach and the fact more shows being put on about him. You’re not a relative by any chance??

Mirabai · 09/01/2024 23:32

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 23:27

@Mirabai Thank you for answering. So, playing devils advocate here, what if someone testified and it was all lies? Someone who was innocent would be sent to prison.

And what if the defendant’s case was all lies? That’s what the adversarial system & the jury is for.

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 23:34

@Mirabai There's no way of knowing without supporting or any other evidence. I do find it a little concerning if that is the case.
