Ours is a on fire at the moment. Usually it's just dog poo and why is the helicopter out, and tourists parking in the pub car park to go for a walk and getting a ticket..

However in the last week or so it has popped off and I'm living for the drama 🤣 it's not even the local community groups,

It's beef between 2 niche (very niche) hobby pages where one is saying x will happen and the other is saying y will happen, then page 1 started posting passive aggressive comments on the page of page 2 and frankly it's incredible.

Any one else got something fun going on, on their Facebook groups?

There was a post from a grandmother asking about whether we had a swimming pool she could take her grandchild to and someone said something about how grandparents shouldn't be doing that sort of thing with their grandchildren and it all kicked off.

And a dog who looked a bit poorly was left outside Lidl for an hour and when people tried to speak to the owner when she came out the shop she told them all to fuck off and dragged the dog away.

On mine there's a drama where someone's dog has attacked and killed somebody's cat in front of their children. It's now turned into a proper witch hunt against the dog owner who, it seems, has form for their dog not being under control and is the sort that doesn't really believe in leads, and doesn't really believe that their dog has done much wrong. There was another incident a few months back involving the same dog chasing a different cat.

Looking at owners FB page there are pictures of the dog loose on the moor in the middle of a herd of ponies amongst other stupid stuff. Quite honestly the dog owners sound ije fecking idiots and I feel sorry for the family whose children saw their cat ripped to bits in front of them.

I fully expect the dog owner to be hounded out of the village (pardon the pun!!)

Maybe the ducking stool ..?

Have y'all ever listened to the podcast (? BBC sounds?) Welcome to the Neighbourhood? All about local Facebook groups and this type of stuff. Hilarious! 😆

Oh, I needed a new podcast! Thanks for this!

Greenpolkadot · 08/01/2024 20:14

Just had a look at the FB for the small town next door..
A ruccus and ' gobbing off' between the girl in the bakers and a resident who took her assistance dog in to the shop.
Praise for the new Indian Takeaway.

Also flooding and people getting stuck on roads which are flooded (which are known to flood and are clearly signed), with a raft of people suggesting that it isn't possible to know that the roads might be flooded and they can't be expected to look for these things.

Apart from that; pavement parking, lost cats and revised refuse collection.

rainpleasestop · 08/01/2024 20:14

McDonald's maybe opening soon dragging the area down apparently

AuntieJoyce · 08/01/2024 20:15

We’ve had a great one this week. An anonymous poster has started a bun fight over neighbourhood cats coming into their garden and killing an animal that they had befriended.

Much mystery around what sort of animal this was. Apparently the anonymous poster had taught it over 20 different commands.

it was like the usual MN thread around cats doing what cats do, versus cat lovers, who think that putting up a birdfeeder is asking for trouble, with random guesses around squirrels and wood pigeons and what could possibly be taught 20 different commands. And what these commands might be

Three innocuous little letters: L. T. N.

Never have I seen so much crazy hyperbolic wailing and gnashing of teeth, it's off the charts. People are practically self-immolating in the street over it ffs. They call the barriers the Berlin Blockade.

What is LTN?

thelovingkind · 08/01/2024 20:16

Small village and someone who is well-known within the community is being ripped to shreds because apparently she was rude to someone in her shop. She wasn't named in the original post but has now been named and loads of nasty things said about her. Now lots of people arguing about whether it's slander or not and some are trying to report the woman so she loses her job 🙄She has been a bit off lately but is nice normally, and given that the person she was 'rude' to was kicking off in the shop, I think it's all way OTT. Feel sorry for the woman now being denigrated on Facebook.

Roadworks
Current ones
Planned ones
Concurrent ones

And no one ever sees the workers!

Bunnyannesummers · 08/01/2024 20:16

People up in arms about the local comp (which to be fair is ridiculous and rubbish and i feel sorry for any kid who goes!) and whatever ridiculous thing they’ve done this week.

In September the school uniform shop issues jumpers with a spelling mistake and they gave kids with those jumpers detentions as they weren’t in the correct uniform 😂 you couldn’t make it up

Coldinthecity · 08/01/2024 20:17

Every so often there are rumours that the towns John Lewis is closing - that really stresses people out!

Piggletta · 08/01/2024 20:19

The admin of ours vets every single bloody post so nothing exciting is posted anymore.

IsAnybodyListening · 08/01/2024 20:19

Yep! Someone's horse shat on the pavement. Someone else is threatening to bag it up and post through letterbox. Someone else is defending the horse shite. High octane stuff.

AyeRightYeAre · 08/01/2024 20:20

Ours is moderated do no dramas.

Carsarelife · 08/01/2024 20:21

Cats getting knocked down and killed
Massive potholes
Flooding
People speeding
Dog Poo

SimplyDiana · 08/01/2024 20:21

My village is close to a regional airport with a 24-hour runway (freight at night) and a racetrack. Periodically, someone will move to the area and kick off about the noise. Then there’s a massive pile on.

There’s also a major festival each year that attracts a lot of traffic. Last year the organisers routed the traffic through the village and it was taking seven hours for some people to get back in. I swear people were asking for traffic updates well after the festival ended.

afrogirl9 · 08/01/2024 20:24

I'm in SE London, so it's mostly car break-ins and door-to-door scams.

bluebellcopse · 08/01/2024 20:24

Ours is still about the dog poo. Someone is claiming that every time they visit the local beauty spot either on foot or bike, they come back covered in it. This is unlikely since I go at least weekly and have managed never to tread in it (although I do think too many people fail to pick up)

Paw2024 · 08/01/2024 20:25

Roadworks
I don't know how to describe it except it's a junction that is a cross basically

Main road and a side road that goes across it at an angle
Main road is one way due to road works, side road drivers are just driving straight across without looking, as they're presuming the entire road is shut
They closed it last Monday and there has been

EIGHT crashes so far BlushBlush

bigageap · 08/01/2024 20:26

Are you in Billericay??!!

Doggonames · 08/01/2024 20:26

Not much, mainly adverts and people trying to flog junk.

The most controversial thing to happen was asylum seekers being housed in a local hotel. There was a group set up complaining about it, with numerous people saying the asylum seekers, are gonna rape and stalk the old women. They’re gonna cause problems and objectify women. Complaining they were given bikes and clothing. And rather a lot of racist comments. Every so often a post will pop up in the community group, saying the asylum seekers have been following people around (mainly to the local shops). The main ringleader, promotes her weight loss coaching and cleaning.

honestly it’s fucking ridiculous. They’ve been there for nearly a year and I haven’t actually heard of any actual issues being caused, it’s just people in the racist group moaning about utter shite and it spilling over to the main group.

the racust group was open, but now it’s private.

Paw2024 · 08/01/2024 20:26

Oh and someone emailed the council
Council have trotted out, inspected the junction WITH a crashed car on it and said "nothing we can do, no need for traffic lights, drivers need to drive with caution"

Workingmumlife1 · 08/01/2024 20:26

I think we live in the same town 🤣

WorriedMillie · 08/01/2024 20:27

Some temporary traffic lights are stuck on red
A road is closed and someone is counting the cars that ignore the signage and are having to turn around
A car has been parked too close to its neighbouring car
Praise for a nice lady who works at the local supermarket ❤️ (Not drama, but lovely)
