What's the deal with 'farting cars' and boy racers?

Just this really, everyone to their own I get that. But, what is so great about driving around in a car that backfires repeatedly? There was one just driven down the road near us and it's hilarious as it sounds like very loud farting.
The driver only needs over sized boots, a mad wig and huge nose to be in the circus.
I guess the noise is to draw attention but it just comes across as 'look at me I'm a twat'.

I'm sure it means the engine is super turbo booated or whatever, but yeah it just sounds funny to me.

There is someone round here with one .. it backfires as well.. we call it Shitty Shitty Bang Bang. Someone on FB offered to do a fundraiser to get it fixed … the owner is an anti-social bellend, but we hope he’ll grow up !

I hate it. I live right in the city centre, on a bit of a pub crawl route so it's almost always noisy. But between the hours of around 3-5am it's dead quiet and peaceful. I used to work nightshifts from home, so I would be awake at this time and the silence was beautiful.

Every single morning at 4.30am, some twat with a backfiring farting car guns it down my street. I'd glance at the clock in the run up to that time, bracing myself and it would still make me jump every single morning!

Nowadays I'm asleep at this time, and my still-asleep brain goes, 'don't worry, it's just the farty small-dicked twat' and it barely registers

They’re not even good cars. Never have been. I remember laughing at lads driving around in Vauxhall Novas.

My dog is terrified of them, quivers in a ball when they make that noise. It's just an older version of toddler attention seeking behaviour.

Sounds like you lot are pretty miserable.
Whilst some might enjoy a quiet puzzle and a glass of wine, others enjoy loud cars.
If it makes them happy, live and let live.

A difference being that enjoying a quiet puzzle and a glass of wine isn't bothering anyone else or any animals.

@PeggyPoggleshaw it's not the car owners responsibility to worry about other peoples animals though. It's not their fault that some dogs are scared of those noises.

I’ve always thought that if my exhaust made that racket I’d get it into the garage quick smart, no bloody idea what the point of anyone purposely making their car make such a weird noise!

They're not stopping anybody from living their own life.
They are enjoying what makes them happy. A bit of noise whilst they drive past is hardly a problem, come on now.

It's definitely compensating for physical inadequacy. We have one round here who starts driving at about 11am, and revs it past the prison for the rest of the day until 4pm, when he presumably gets too stoked to drive. We reckon he's trying to prove that hes not in prison!!

@Nonplusultra yes its deliberate. I I’d ask Dh how it worked. My brain heard ‘blah blah blah’ I think it’s something to do with forcing unburnt fuel into the exhaust which then ignites beyond the cat and causes an explosive bang upon ignition. (Otherwise known as burning money and probably bad for the environment.)

It shows that they are masters of the road. No one can challenge their driving prowess, for they are better at this than either you or I could ever be. I think we should show them some respect for their highly tuned machines of the road!
