Can anyone explain to me why some people feel so passionate about hating Harry and Meghan, or vice versa?

Why do people love Harry and Meghan and Hate William and Catherine so strongly. or the other way round?

I don't mean - what is their stated rationale for it, I mean what kind of psychology is behind this massive investment in total strangers?

The Dianna public grieving was a strange time, but it at least made sense - death of someone in the prime of her life, a huge loss to her family.

But why are some members of the general public so invested in picking sides in a family feud?

if you want to blindly believe the sun shines out their arses

This is what detractors really don't get about those who think they are not the spawn of the devil.
I don't think the sun shines out their arses. Not in the slightest. There is black, white and there is grey in opinion.
I think they've been a couple of twats at times. They have misjudged at times. They haven't thought things through. They have made missteps.

BUT they do not deserve the mauling they get day in day out on here and in the media. I have never seen such vile stuff written about a woman over a six year period on a so say, predominantly female parenting forum. There have been posts that have literally made me judder in its hatefulness.

No one deserves that.

It's not a competition. William was 15. I think making those boys walk behind that coffin was child abuse. No wonder they're screwed up.
People who have more contempt for H&M than Andrew baffle me. His mother paid £12 million quid to keep him out of trouble and now he's trying to smarm his way back into public life. He should be in prison. Especially after yesterday's revelations.
What's happened to Dan Wooton? That's all gone very quiet...

Not making it a competition. Both boys were children so I don't understand the focus on Harry when William was only two years older.

Throwhandsupintheair · 05/01/2024 10:37

Because they’ve been told to do so by the media, as the royals make a good distraction, and because they confuse humans with a soap opera.

On the rare occasions when someone’s tried to talk to me in a passionate way about them, I shut it down. I can’t really respect people who fall for media manipulation so easily. Probably the same types of people who record Lorraine to watch later, believe everything in Take a Break magazine, cry at sob stories on Britain’s Got Talent, fall for obvious romance scams and ‘don’t do politics, but Boris is a right laugh’.

have to say that is timely to have a thread about H&M , just as the shit hits the fan with andrew.
yet H&M get so many hateful threads about them.
Im not a fan, just hate bullying.

@Kalevala "Not making it a competition. Both boys were children so I don't understand the focus on Harry when William was only two years older."

It was shit for both of them and IMHO abusive behaviour. But William was older. And he was on course to be King-he had a role and a purpose, however ridiculous. Harry didn't. And when he did find something he loved and wanted to do, that was taken away from him too.

It was three years and I think there's quite a jump from 12 to 15. It was horrible for both of them though.

Yes Me too in fact I'm not even a Royalist but I don't get the vitriol against H&M .

sashagabadon · 05/01/2024 11:01

I think it’s just what m and h have done is so extraordinary and unique really and there is no historical similarity ( except maybe Edward and Wallis but that was a completely different time)
the interviews, books, articles and there is now a whole online industry that basically discusses them both negatively and positively. They are a cautionary modern day fairy tale of what not to do imo!

Nofilteritwonthelp · 05/01/2024 11:03

SemperIdem · 05/01/2024 01:40

No idea really. Both William and Harry seem quite boring men. Catherine and Meghan have great style.

Ha ha, nailed it. So, so true!

Honeychickpea · 05/01/2024 11:05

Bread and circuses. It keeps the empty headed from thinking about the important issues.

An army career.

Very well said. I agree, I don't even like them, but the hate against Meghan, is just that hate which I find very disturbing

CurlewKate · 05/01/2024 11:08

I do think it's extraordinary that what H&M have done is considered worse than Andrew.

And it's nothing to do with the interviews and the book. I remember a million threads on here about Megan "defying protocol" by wearing jeans to Wimbledon...

NonPlayerCharacter · 05/01/2024 11:15

It's partly because Andrew has finally, finally learned to shut up. He doesn't feed it any more so there's only so far it can run.

H&M have made themselves and their royal connection their entire product and they need to keep selling it. If they'd just start a different business and make a living that way (party supplies worked well for the Middletons), they could shut up and it would run out of steam too.

HighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 05/01/2024 11:17

I don't care for any of them but despite the media, I think people really liked H & M until they rejected everything and started over sharing.
I don't think they've had the best advice or are the best to advise each other.

W & K are just there, doing what they're required to do.

I really do detest that bread and circuses attitude. Oh look at all of us, struggling with cost of living, turning up to wave flags and marvel at the most privileged members of society.

I don't think you can compare what Andrew allegedly did to Harry and Meghan.

I'm explaining one reason why there's so much more discourse about H&M than him. He's finally stfu so how much new stuff is there to say about it? Whereas if you keep releasing new content about yourself because that's your career now...

Roussette · 05/01/2024 11:26

Nah... his equivalent is turning up front and centre whenever he can. At the Coronation stupid hat, feathers, big cloak, tassels, ermine.

Arming the Queen to her seat at memorial service
Church if there's a PR opportunity

Never complain, never explain... just turn up at every opportunity to try and ingratiate yourself back into the public's favour.
And I bet you he harangued Charles to have Sarah at the Christmas service...
"I'm just a wonderful family man, with an amicable divorce, look how forgiving I am blah blah"

CurlewKate · 05/01/2024 11:32

@x2boys " don't think you can compare what Andrew allegedly did to Harry and Meghan."

No. What Andrew did was significantly worse.

Some people are really easily manipulated.

This.
People fell for a media frenzy.
Why did the media create it?
For sales and for distraction from government fuck ups, and other important events.
Why did the Royals perpetuate it? (Distraction from the real issue that the royals shouldn't exist, that Prince Andrew is a paedophile, etc)
Why do people care? Some people love to see someone torn down. There was a racist element, a class element, and people are quite stupid and mean. The haters are the same people that would have gone and watched a hanging for entertainment.

NonPlayerCharacter · 05/01/2024 11:36

Don't they have to wear certain clothes and robes to a coronation?

I love how people are coming on here with such strong opinions about people they haven’t even met! This thread should be renamed ‘Why do some people believe everything they read in the press?’
I couldn’t give a shit about any of them to be honest and have zero opinions about people I don’t know.
