Nursery: Christmas jumper

AIBU?

So my DC is 2 yrs old and in Nov/Dec got a heap of Christmassy type clothes. Some very obviously Christmas (Santa jumper), some more fair isle type stuff. I bought quite alot of things and so did family - e.g my Mum bought 3 jumpers etc etc. So there is genuinely a lot of it but it all got worn from end of Nov through to New Year but obviously still in very good condition.

Some of the stuff I bought was really lovely and not that cheap - it was from John Lewis and JoJo etc but for me, I always think well lovely clothes for pics over the Christmas period and then it's stuff that can be worn for nursery till it gets wrecked/no longer fits.

So this morning did drop off at nursery and the staff member made a point of saying 'oh a Christmas jumper' quite disparagingly..... to be honest the jumper they went in with today wasn't 'that Christmassy' - it was a red fair isle jumper with small robins on it. But I do fully intend to send DC in with their Santa jumper in the coming weeks.

To be honest, I don't really care - given the tatt and thread bare leggings and stained tops I see other kids sent in wearing, a child going in wearing a lovely warm, clean, non-stained, albeit 'Santa' jumper isn't something I'm going to lose sleep over. It's nursery - clothes get wrecked. They fit. They're good quality - they can be worn for nursery until the weather gets warmer is my attitude. I'm not judging the monstrosity of outfits I see other people sending their kids in because I completely get it - it's nursery - and everything comes home with paint and tomato sauce and glitter all over it.

But I just wondered is this an eye rolling what the hell is that mother playing at - type of thing? Or would most of you just think the same - clearly got a lot of Christmas clothes, it's nursery, the child is 2yrs old - of course it makes sense for the child to wear them?

Or would you be secretly judging me thinking I'm very unreasonable? I'm genuinely planning on my DC getting full use out of these clothes for nursery till March! So be honest - I want to know what I'm up against! Haha.

My child uses her Christmas dress through the whole year.

Doppelgangers · 03/01/2024 13:34

I don't even let my kids wear Christmas PJs in the house after January. They get put away for next year (I always buy PJs a size up for this reason)

Why genuinely why? It's a pair of pyjamas who the fluff cares if it's December or May?

Interesting that you’ve told another poster that it might help if they read the OP, when you haven’t read my post properly before replying…

Apologies but clearly OP just wants to use them, not pack them away. Sounds like hard work.

I'm really surprised so many posters on here wouldn't let their children wear a jumper in January just because they deemed it Christmassy.

This. I have a reputation for being a bit particular about what my DD wears from time to time but this wouldn't even cross my mind as a concern.

Do you tend to overthink this much in general?

as if so might be worth booking an appt with your GP

Is this a joke??

JumpingJills · 03/01/2024 13:38

Holiday themed clothes are my go-to nursery back up clothes!
It's always fun if there's an accident and I get a surprise of picking him up in Nana's pumpkin-themed onesie in February Xmas Smile
Don't let the comment bug you - I plan to have my children donning reindeer bums until at least June.

NameChange30 · 03/01/2024 13:42

YABU to send your child to nursery in good quality clothes from John Lewis and JoJo.

You and your mum were also unreasonable to buy so much new Christmas clothing, I always think it's silly to buy new Christmas clothes that will only be worn a few times in December. I buy one or two things and buy second hand as much as possible.

As PPs said, I'd sell the Christmas clothes on Vinted while they're still in good condition.

VaccineSticker · 03/01/2024 13:47

Many kids wore Christmas jumpers outside the Xmas period at my children’s nursery I don’t see the problem.
Ignore the grumpy nursery employee.

Pickledonionout · 03/01/2024 13:47

@Christmaslights21 nope

What is a joke is that a grown adult is sat wondering about whether nursery staff are judging them

pathetic

Notalldogs23 · 03/01/2024 13:49

My DS always wore Christmas jumpers after Xmas if they still fitted - especially if they were good quality! I would pass onto friends or donate to charity shop once too small.

RandomButtons · 03/01/2024 13:50

Given the rate that nursery age children grown, YANBU. It’s the height of waste and consumerism to buy a jumper that only gets worn for 2-4 weeks.

Crack on, if it fits and you don’t mind paint on it, it’s perfect for nursery.

Luxell934 · 03/01/2024 13:53

Gosh maybe you interpreted her comment the wrong way OP because I can’t see a nursery worker giving a fuck that a child is wearing a Christmas jumper to nursery.

No one cares OP the only person who cares is you who’s written a long post about how much you don’t care about it 🤣

herewegoroundthebastardbush · 03/01/2024 13:56

Genuinely astonished how many people would give a shit 😂

given the tatt and thread bare leggings and stained tops I see other kids sent in wearing

so, you notice and judge what the other children are wearing...?

I'm not judging the monstrosity of outfits I see other people sending their kids in

your description says otherwise! 😂

This is exactly what I was thinking. It sounds like you’d definitely judge my kids at nursery! Difference is I couldn’t give a toss whereas you care enough about one nursery teachers seemingly innocuous comment to start a whole thread!

Really impressive isn't it! I'm also surprised by how many think that wearing a Christmas jumper post December means you've suddenly got no other clothes.

Familiaritybreedscontemptso · 03/01/2024 14:00

You do you but I don’t even buy my dc Christmas pjs because I can’t bear to see them in Christmassy stuff after Christmas. I would probably think your dc was choosing their own clothes if I saw them in Santa stuff in March. But it doesn’t hurt anyone so not worth a second thought.

BaiIee · 03/01/2024 14:02

Some people with horrible attitudes on this post who can't handle it when someone simply has an opinion! Crazy.

VampireWeekday · 03/01/2024 14:02

I wouldn't put DC is christmassy jumpers post the 6th Jan - but I wouldn't care or form any conjectures about someone else who did, and I would still go for more general winter ones, like robins or snow.

SnapdragonToadflax · 03/01/2024 14:03

Yup, I used Christmas clothes as nursery clothes - usually as spares rather than the initial outfit to be fair, but they got used regularly.

I never buy them new though - Vinted or eBay all the way because they're always in good condition. So less of a waste of money. If they were very nice quality I'd probably stick them up for sale rather than get them ruined at nursery.

00100001 · 03/01/2024 14:05

id send them in whatever was clean.

id anyone commented - you could ask them what was inappropriate about it - and what's wrong with it... make them reflect upon their weird judgeyness. And you can sure as hell bet I'd send them in with it again LOL

You could tell them you are Orthodox and it isn't Christmas yet.

Everydayimhuffling · 03/01/2024 14:07

Mine is still going in wearing his Halloween t-shirt. He likes it, and it doesn't really matter. Rude of the staff member to comment really.

LolaSmiles · 03/01/2024 14:09

I get my DC Christmas jumpers second hand to wear from November onwards and then they get passed on to friends for their children.
I'd not send them to nursery in them after Christmas because I'd rather another family got use from them rather than them getting ruined at nursery.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 03/01/2024 14:11

My 2 year old still fit into last year's Christmas stuff this year. Grandparents bought new Christmas stuff this year too but I think it'll fit her next year (although she's tall so if she shoots up again, maybe not...).

The one thing from last year that didn't fit this year sold immediately after I listed it on Vinted, but they don't make much. My girl ruins things at nursery, so I'd rather get 2 quid back than nothing at all. And she gets a bit too warm in jumpers on normal nursery days so I wouldn't send her in them too often. It being Christmas pattern wouldn't put me off though. They grow out of stuff so fast, you want them to wear it more than once.

Mine asks for BAT regularly, which is a sweatshirt I bought for Halloween and she loves! If they're happy, let them wear it.
