Christmas decorations

I want to remove the Christmas decorations today but DC are desperate for them to be up longer.

AIBU to insist at least the tree - which we got the first week of December (and has been dropping from day 1!) - is removed, even if the twinkly lights outside the house stay a while longer?

Got me wondering, if all the kids are back in school tomorrow then when will everyone take down decorations?

I’ll keep mine up for a few more days - we don’t go back till the 8th

New2Us · 01/01/2024 14:26

Oh wow, is that 3 weeks holiday or a very late break up?

I've taken most of mine down today, as won't have chance later on in the week

Alwaystired23 · 01/01/2024 14:27

Mine are coming down today. Dc are still off school for another week and one day here in Wales. They didn't break up until the Friday before Christmas.

Floralnomad · 01/01/2024 14:28

We took ours down yesterday , I love having the trees up but it is nice and tidy without them .

Cnidarian · 01/01/2024 14:29

Kids aren't back tomorrow, it's next week. Still Christmas for a while! Going to take some of ours down though...

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/01/2024 14:30

Mine will be up another week. It's only in the quiet period after Christmas that you can really enjoy them.

Ponoka7 · 01/01/2024 14:31

I used to do mine the first day off work when the kids had gone back. I sometimes keep my greenery up until Candlemas. My house isn't warm so my real tree used to last.

Lottieskeeper · 01/01/2024 14:32

My husband has a big birthday coming on the 3rd and insists the Dec's stay up for his birthday.
So they're coming down on the 4th. The kids also go back to school on the 4th.

I'm looking forward to the 4th more than I looked forward to ChristmasGrin

StrictlyComeSnoozing · 01/01/2024 14:32

I take them down on 6th so will take them down on Saturday.

SgtJuneAckland · 01/01/2024 14:33

Ours will come down at the weekend so 6/7th

Pasadenadreaming · 01/01/2024 14:33

I hate new year, January, and taking the decs down so we've done it today just to rip the bandaid off! Will then have tomorrow to give the house a clean before work starts back on Wednesday.

Peridot1 · 01/01/2024 14:36

We will probably start taking everything down on Friday.

WhatNoRaisins · 01/01/2024 14:39

School on Wednesday so we did it today. I'm not happy about it, feels way to early and like I've got too much of January stretching ahead.

LadyBird1973 · 01/01/2024 15:00

Did mine this morning. It feels odd to me to have Christmas decorations up in January - the 1st is a time for clear houses and diets 🙂.
I did love my tree though and will miss it. House is looking nice a tidy though!

Takacupokindnessyet · 01/01/2024 15:17

The 2nd is a bank holiday here and the absolute earliest I would take them down. Schools finished the 22nd and not back till 8th

gillys · 01/01/2024 15:25

Well the Christmas period finishes on 12th night , which is January 5th I think, so I usually take mine down just before that but will be a bit earlier this year.

New2Us · 01/01/2024 19:27

Funnily enough I almost mentioned the 5th which is tattooed on my brain!

Will take them down tomorrow because need to go into loft and have helper doing that on Wednesday .
House needs a good clean and dust now. Will be sad to see tree down as it was beautiful this year but all the other tat I won't miss.

Desecratedcoconut · 01/01/2024 20:10

They are going down tomorrow. I already have the boxes out of the loft so I'm ready to roll. My kids are back to school on Wednesday and Thursday, so I want to draw a line under Christmas before they return.

HouseorHome · 01/01/2024 20:11

I take mine down by NYE at the latest - I like the house decoration free for the new year.

ShortColdandGrey · 01/01/2024 20:14

Ours will be down at the weekend. Kids aren't back until the 8th in Scotland.

PriceMeByTheYard · 01/01/2024 20:15

I usually take them down on New Year's Day, but one of the storage boxes has cracked and the corner has shattered and it is now useless (live rurally, decs stored in the outbuilding and much enjoyed by mice if they can squeeze into the boxes). Will do it tomorrow after lengthy trek to town for new storage box.

KeyWorker · 01/01/2024 20:19

I’ve packed away the ornaments, trinkets and Christmas books today but will leave the (artificial) tree until Friday. DD is back at school on Thursday so it’s just easier to do it on Friday as I’m off.

Mushroo · 01/01/2024 20:23

We normally leave up until the 5th, which is the epiphany and when the wise men arrived but will just see which evening this week we get chance to do it.

The best bit of Xmas imo is the time between Xmas and new year so I’m in no rush to leave the Xmas bubble.
