Did something silly last night

HenriettaHarry · 01/01/2024 10:24

I used to be a good gymnast as a child. I had a couple of drinks last night and was dancing and decided to do the splits. To my delight, in my fifties I was very excited I could still do this, danced a little more and did the splits again.

The top of my inner thighs are really quite painful upon waking this morning and I’m worried I’ve done myself an injury.

Will this just right itself over a few days? Currently sat with hot water bottle between my thighs.

I had a couple of drinks last night

I’d say so!

I only had 3, but I never drink so it went straight to my head 😳

😂

ManateeFair · 01/01/2024 10:39

Sounds you had a good night! 🤣

And yeah, you’ll just have overstretched a bit. It will right itself over a few days. Ice might be better than heat for reducing inflammation.

shivermetimbers77 · 01/01/2024 10:40

Well done for being able to do the splits ! You’ve probably just pulled the muscles/tendons, give them a rest for a few days and you should be fine.

determinedtomakethiswork · 01/01/2024 10:40

This has really made me laugh. I hope it all heals up soon and hope you have learned the error of your ways!

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 01/01/2024 10:41

You’ve probably done nothing worse than strained a muscle that you didn’t warm up and probably haven’t used in that way for more years than you used to do it regularly. Treat it the same way as you would any other pulled muscle - gentle stretching and light exercise to stop it going stiff; take paracetamol/ibuprofen if you can for the pain and use heat/cold and massage to encourage blood flow to the area and promote healing.

BrimfulOfMash · 01/01/2024 10:41

Oh, well done!

You will probably be stiff for a few days, but take nurofen, apply ice and keep up gentle movement.

Then start excercise and stretches that will enable you to do the splits and other gymnastic feats any time you like!

Go OP!

NameCheckItOut · 01/01/2024 10:42

It will get better but I feel your pain.

Some years ago and completely sober (what was I thinking?), I showed my son (and myself) I could still back flip.

I thought I’d actually die from the abdominal pain the next and subsequent days. I’m now trying to grow old more gracefully.

HenriettaHarry · 01/01/2024 10:43

Thank you everyone, hopefully I’ll be fine in a couple of days. I honestly don’t know what came over me, I’m normally such an introvert!

I thought you were going to say you had done something really silly!
Well done you still being able to do them!

BIossomtoes · 01/01/2024 10:44

I’d willingly suffer forever if I could do the splits! Give it a few days and you’ll be fine.

ShowOfHands · 01/01/2024 10:47

DH's cousin was thrilled to find she could still do the splits. She was at her own wedding reception, hadn't eaten enough and the champagne had gone to her head. She was so thrilled, she did it again. And a third time for good measure.

She had to find a decent pharmacy on day 3 of her honeymoon as she couldn't do much other than hobble and she was in tears with the pain. It was just muscular and some pulled ligaments, but sore for a while!

BrimfulOfMash · 01/01/2024 10:48

There is no need for grace in growing older!

I used to do a handstand and go over into a crab on every birthday until my early 40s, just to prove to
myself I could do it, and now in my 60s I am thinking I might cautiously work up to it. Starting with a handstand against a wall. And trying a crab from lying in the floor. While sober, initially.

windywash · 01/01/2024 10:49

Sorry but this made me laugh...sounds like a good party!

Emma543 · 01/01/2024 10:51

As echo’d above with resting however in soft tissue injuries avoid any ibuprofen for the first 2-2 days post injury as the inflammation phase is an important part of healing.
manage with paracetamol if you can and congrats on still managing the splits 😂

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 01/01/2024 10:51

@BrimfulOfMash " while sober, initially"

🤣🤣🤣

PegasusReturns · 01/01/2024 10:51

Omg I’ve been known to do this Grin

have a warm bath and take it easy - you’ll be fine.

enjoyingscience · 01/01/2024 10:53

Ha, amazing.

Try alternating hot water bottle with ice maybe?

tomorrow might be worse than today, but on balance I’d say it was totally worth it.

Aw! You've made us smile, but it must be so sore. Look after yourself and take it easy. Perhaps stay away from pole dancing for a few days.Flowers

Sharontheodopolodous · 01/01/2024 10:55

Your not the only one

On my 30th birthday (which was last week, honest guv) I got plastered

Thought it would be a fab idea to poledance a lamppost (never done a poledance in my life) while wearing a very short skirt and no tights

Only a few weeks earlier, the council had put a grit layer on them to stop women poledancing while pissed

Lost all the skin on my upper thighs and had to beg friends to take the kids to school for about 3 weeks

The pain was that bad,I didn't have a drink again until last week on xmas day (15 years later) got plastered on the baileys and can hardly walk again as I have arthritis in my knee and was convinced I could do the can-can

I cant

Cnidarian · 01/01/2024 10:55

I'm sure we all thought this was going to be some lurid night with someone inappropriate, I'm so tickled to read it was the splits...well done OP! You'll be alright, just might take a few days, very impressive!

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 01/01/2024 10:59

It sounds like the party at the vicarage was quite something.

AAAHHAHAHAHAAAAA!!! I mean I'm sorry that sounds really painful, but I have to know where you live that the council had to grit the poles against dancers! (It's in the North isn't it.....I say this as a northerner)

HenriettaHarry · 01/01/2024 11:01

Ha ha glad I’m not the only one! I quite fancy a bit of pole dancing 😂, maybe I’ll look to see if there’s a local one in my area
