Did something silly last night

I used to be a good gymnast as a child. I had a couple of drinks last night and was dancing and decided to do the splits. To my delight, in my fifties I was very excited I could still do this, danced a little more and did the splits again.

The top of my inner thighs are really quite painful upon waking this morning and I’m worried I’ve done myself an injury.

Will this just right itself over a few days? Currently sat with hot water bottle between my thighs.

AAAHHAHAHAHAAAAA!!! I mean I'm sorry that sounds really painful, but I have to know where you live that the council had to grit the poles against dancers! (It's in the North isn't it.....I say this as a northerner)

Hahaha

It was york city centre

I don't know if they still do it but they certainly did 15 years ago

I can still feel the pain...

HenriettaHarry · 01/01/2024 11:01

Local pole dancing class that was meant to say!

You’ve probably just pulled a muscle because you’ve not used it in so long.

Just keep stretching and doing gentle exercises (and remember you’re not 20 anymore) and you should be fine in a couple of days.

Next time perhaps do some stretches beforehand just in case! 😁

TeaGinandFags · 01/01/2024 11:21

Well done being able to do the splits!

Twice!

When your muscles have returned to normal, why don't you sign up for pilates or ballet exercise or something similar so that the next time you don't have to suffer x

(There's always a next time, if you're lucky.)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/01/2024 11:23

I love this thread! You've probably just stretched something

Notchangingnameagain · 01/01/2024 11:24

LOVE THIS!!

HNY! 🥂

I hope your thighs get better soon! 😀

squashi · 01/01/2024 11:24

I'm sorry OP, this has made me laugh. I hope you're OK though!

Crooklodge · 01/01/2024 11:40

Glad I'm not the only one that does stupid stuff like this. Wouldn't step foot on the trampoline when sober but after a few drinks I CAN still backflip.

ISpyNoPlumPie · 01/01/2024 11:51

Oh god. I did this a few months back. I’m near 40 and it took a fair while (not a few days) for my poor leg, well my hamstrings, to recover…

Horrace · 01/01/2024 12:03

I'm weak. I thought you were going to say you'd snogged your neighbour or something equally silly.

millymog11 · 01/01/2024 12:09

OP I am sorry for your injury but I am also grateful to you for such a hilarious thread and for giving me a good laff this morning.

I hope you feel better soon tho x

Miyagi99 · 01/01/2024 12:26

It’ll just be a strain. I did a cartwheel in my late forties (also after a drink) and was sore for over a week!

ttcat37 · 01/01/2024 12:34

This is the most wholesome ‘I did something silly last night’ thread I’ve ever seen on MN.

Permanentlyunimpressed · 01/01/2024 12:40

Grin Reminds me of the time I thought I could still do cartwheels in my 40's. I mean I could, just not without putting my back out apparently.

BrimfulOfMash · 01/01/2024 10:48

There is no need for grace in growing older!

I used to do a handstand and go over into a crab on every birthday until my early 40s, just to prove to
myself I could do it, and now in my 60s I am thinking I might cautiously work up to it. Starting with a handstand against a wall. And trying a crab from lying in the floor. While sober, initially.

Be careful with the crab- my wife did it to prove to the doubting children that she could… she was in agony with her back for weeks. She didn’t even have alcohol as an excuse!

zingally · 01/01/2024 12:49

You've most likely just over-stretched. You'll be okay in a couple of days.

TheChosenTwo · 01/01/2024 12:51

@Sharontheodopolodous you sound like my kinda person 😂😂

op I’m in a similar painful predicament this morning after playing a very competitive game of taking down a layer!

doggiedude · 01/01/2024 12:53

Cnidarian · 01/01/2024 10:55

I'm sure we all thought this was going to be some lurid night with someone inappropriate, I'm so tickled to read it was the splits...well done OP! You'll be alright, just might take a few days, very impressive!

That's what I was thinking!Am so massively impressed by anyone who can do the splits!!

PrimroseSilk · 01/01/2024 12:54

You sound great OP. Don't stop having a drink and doing the splits.

Hope you recover soon!

SleepingStandingUp · 01/01/2024 13:05

As you waddle around, if anyone asks just say too much fun NYE and blush. Then mutter a manly name under your breath as you walk away....

I did this a few years ago whilst feeling particularly nostalgic and my arms weren't strong enough to hold my increased mass and I fell flat on my head 😐

I swear I saw stars!

stepintochristmas1 · 01/01/2024 13:08

Lol well done did anyone take photos ?

lemmein · 01/01/2024 13:11

Sharontheodopolodous · 01/01/2024 10:55

Your not the only one

On my 30th birthday (which was last week, honest guv) I got plastered

Thought it would be a fab idea to poledance a lamppost (never done a poledance in my life) while wearing a very short skirt and no tights

Only a few weeks earlier, the council had put a grit layer on them to stop women poledancing while pissed

Lost all the skin on my upper thighs and had to beg friends to take the kids to school for about 3 weeks

The pain was that bad,I didn't have a drink again until last week on xmas day (15 years later) got plastered on the baileys and can hardly walk again as I have arthritis in my knee and was convinced I could do the can-can

I cant

Ahh, the lesser known 'can't-can't' Grin

Fitandfree · 01/01/2024 13:13

Well done OP! Now you know you can, you could stretch daily, and be the next Angela Rippon! That would be really good news for your 60,70,80,90's 🤩

CharlotteStreetW1 · 01/01/2024 13:14

Ouch!

I accidentally did the splits on a wet bathroom floor.

I have never been able to do the splits.

Shredded my hamstring and couldn't walk or drive for weeks. (But I was starting from a fitness/flexibility level of zero.)

Hope it feels easier soon OP 🙂
