Did something silly last night

I used to be a good gymnast as a child. I had a couple of drinks last night and was dancing and decided to do the splits. To my delight, in my fifties I was very excited I could still do this, danced a little more and did the splits again.

The top of my inner thighs are really quite painful upon waking this morning and I’m worried I’ve done myself an injury.

Will this just right itself over a few days? Currently sat with hot water bottle between my thighs.

@lemmein hahahaha
I really can't can't
Shame my pissed brain doesn't remember that!

@TheChosenTwo
Haha
Oh dear-that sounds painful

Jetstream · 01/01/2024 13:20

Hats off OP, hope you recover soon.

Uricon2 · 01/01/2024 13:26

Oh this thread is making me laugh!

Respect OP and hope you ache less soon.

Singleandproud · 01/01/2024 13:29

I ripped my hamstring doing something similar, I was on crutches for weeks so if you can walk I reckon it's just a strain and

Brandyginger · 01/01/2024 13:32

I thought it was a good idea to do the crow yoga move on thr dance floor at a work Christmas drinks party. Terrible idea.

Ha ha glad I’m not the only one! I quite fancy a bit of pole dancing 😂, maybe I’ll look to see if there’s a local one in my area

Son's girlfriend does ''pole'' as a gymnastic thing...
They have a 'pole' in the centre of one of their rooms- I had no idea that the pole itself can spin...

I tried to have a go...but absolutely lack the arm strength and the abs to do it.. 😂

It takes powerful muscles to do 'Pole' properly. {screenshot of Natalia T from Ukraine.}

Alcohol and I once thought that skateboarding down a hill was an excellent idea, one foot apiece on two different skateboards. I managed to stay balanced long enough to build up momentum, before my feet went out from under me. I was young enough for mini skirts and thongs (2005!!) so I ended up skinning my arse and the backs of my thighs. I couldn't sit comfortably for weeks and needed assistance to dress my wounds. Shameful behaviour!

Andthereyougo · 01/01/2024 13:51

My friend’s late 60s husband decided he could run down the stairs and jump the baby gate at the bottom—- he couldn’t, as his trip to A&E, a sprained ankle and a few cracked ribs testified. So it could have been worse.
Another vote for ice ( well wrapped) and hope you feel better soon.

EndofDaze · 01/01/2024 13:51

This has really made me laugh. Sorry but the mental image is just glorious. Hope you feel better soon OP.

Excited101 · 01/01/2024 13:54

I did this once, pulled a muscle in my thigh/crotch area and it took a month or two to calm down! Not ideal…

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 01/01/2024 13:55

‘I honestly don’t know what came over me’

Come on, OP, you know ! Or you can make a good guess. 🍾

Bloody impressive stunt, though 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

oakleaffy · 01/01/2024 14:08

@HenriettaHarry I didn't ride horses for about a year, then went riding and my tendons /muscles {adductors?} in upper legs were agony! as were shoulders - the horse I rode was unknown to me and hadn't been exercised so was quite 'full on' -I should have been wary when the owner refused to ride first-
The entire yard turned out to watch at the field gate as they called ''She's strong, isn't she''...

I really was sore after that for a good few days. sounds like the same set of muscles you over stretched last night. ..OUCH!

MillarMountVandal · 01/01/2024 14:12

Your post made me chuckle (in a nice way, at the letting loose bit, not the pain!). You'll be fine, you've just strained, keep the hot water bottle handy and gub some brufon for a couple of days!

QuestionableMouse · 01/01/2024 14:13

Try gently stretching in the same direction (obvs don't do the splits again but a lunge type stretch)

ChristySept · 01/01/2024 14:27

This is brilliant. I have no medical advice for you OP but you’ve cheered me right up. I hope you had a fantastic night!

justasking111 · 01/01/2024 14:35

Joan Collins was on tv last month she did exactly the same on a chat show decades ago. It was very painful, but she recovered.

Mumwithbaggage · 01/01/2024 14:39

This was my party trick till a few years ago (definitely over 50). Surprising as am really very unfit. I always walked a bit funny the next day but no permanent damage.

Pablova · 01/01/2024 14:51

Miyagi99 · 01/01/2024 12:26

It’ll just be a strain. I did a cartwheel in my late forties (also after a drink) and was sore for over a week!

I did a cart wheel in my late 40s, strained an existing but not giving me any trouble at the time, trapped nerve and ended up needing surgery. 😎
I mourn for my supple flexible days.

StaunchMomma · 01/01/2024 14:53

It's likely just DOMS, at worst a little pulled muscle.

Lesson learned tho, hey? 😂

porridgeisbae · 01/01/2024 14:58

It should be ok OP but keep an eye on it.

A few years back I'd had a couple of ciders and tried to do a handstand to bridge and stand in a pub beer garden. I never managed it as a child. I did it! Such a buzz to do something in your 40s that you never succeeded in doing before.

Maybe this'll give you some ideas of stuff to do in 2024. But remember to warm up and cool down properly to help avoid injury xx

lenalemonade · 01/01/2024 15:03

Lol!!...I did this a few years ago .
I saw Debbie McGhee on strictly and thought "yeah Lena you still got it "😁
No Lena didn't still have it ,all she had was the shuffle of a woman many years older than her actual age till her poor 50 something joints recovered !
Get better soon OP

HappyGranny7 · 01/01/2024 15:07

Oh my days have LOL so much at this thread!!!!! Mumsnet finest. Hilarious. First and only time horse riding 45 yrs ago, what was I thinking? Had never even sat on a bloody horse before. My poor hoo ha and bum. I was black and blue for days and days. Never ever again

Allwelcone · 01/01/2024 15:08

You're a legend OP get well soon

lenalemonade · 01/01/2024 15:09

Best thread ever 😁❤️

CantFindMyMarbles · 02/01/2024 18:19

Probably just a sprain and will sort itself out. Surely common sense tells you this….
