Did something silly last night

I used to be a good gymnast as a child. I had a couple of drinks last night and was dancing and decided to do the splits. To my delight, in my fifties I was very excited I could still do this, danced a little more and did the splits again.

The top of my inner thighs are really quite painful upon waking this morning and I’m worried I’ve done myself an injury.

Will this just right itself over a few days? Currently sat with hot water bottle between my thighs.

I salute you for splitting at this age. Have a warm bath and an early night. It’s just a muscle ache

NoDought · 02/01/2024 19:49

Sound like you’ve enjoyed yourself and I’m very impressed. Only time will tell, see how you feel in the next couple of days and try alternating with some ice and take some NSAIDs

Vynalbob · 02/01/2024 20:05

3 weak lager n limes or 3 pints of Bailey's....
🙄🙄🙄
context / perspective
Once bought a Rolls Royce from eBay for a £5er ..... Came in a jiffy (bag) luckily I expected it 👀😳👍

Jillybloop393 · 02/01/2024 20:23

Good on you!! Love this post, and think we need pics of all of you doing handstands, cartwheels, going downhill with each foot on a skateboard, and also the sixty something year old chap that thought he could run downstairs and leap over the baby gate!
Pmsl!!

CrackersCheeseNoWinePlease · 02/01/2024 20:28

This made me laugh.
Funnily enough, yesterday I was wondering to myself if I could still do a cartwheel in my 40s.
I'm not going to find out 😂

Missingpop · 02/01/2024 21:29

Do you have any pain at all I’m thinking possibly a perisenidal abscess (not sure if I’ve spelt it correctly) but they can be quite vile

justasking111 · 02/01/2024 21:36

My mother still fit at 70 picked up a Pilates DVD in a charity shop. Started well then ping something went. She couldn't move. Luckily a neighbour found her on the ground. Ambulance took her off to the hospital. She never tried again.

Ostryga · 02/01/2024 21:42

This is such a good thread.

Last NYE after too much Prosecco I had the great idea of lifting my friend up on my feet - you know when you lay on your back and they hold your hands? Well obviously it went exactly as well as you can imagine. She crashed headfirst into the (thankfully unlit) fireplace and I couldn’t use my thigh muscles for days. I had to basically throw myself onto the toilet as couldn’t bend without excruciating pain.

We learnt our lesson this year 😂

TheMixedGirl · 02/01/2024 22:16

Omg. You did the splits then did them again 🤣🤣🤣🤣

babbi · 02/01/2024 22:22

That’s my party trick too 🤦‍♀️I never warm up and am tender for a few days then I’m absolutely fine .
You will be fine OP !
Glad you had a good night 👏😀

DyslexicPoster · 02/01/2024 22:23

Ah bless you, this is fantastic and you sound fantastic!

If it didn't hurt at the time I suspect you should be OK. Try to resist the urge to stay still. When I have a bad back, gental normal exercise like walking and bending and swimming helps but it does hurt so much. Trick is rest yet keep using those muscles. Very tricky! No splits for a while mind you..... maybe in 4 weeks time..

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 02/01/2024 22:30

I feel your pain.
I had a similar experience whereby I remembered I’d previously done karate and was showing everyone my high kicks.
So painful! 😂

Namechangeforthis88 · 02/01/2024 22:48

Pain is weakness leaving the body, train through it guys.

Impressive work everyone, keep it up.

Justleaveitblankthen · 02/01/2024 23:21

Ah bless you OP, this made me chuckle.
You are fabulous 😂👏

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 02/01/2024 23:29

Just reading the pp about doing a back flip while sober.... I did a handstand (mid thirties!) then dropped back into a crab to show my DC's friends how to do it... I swear my soul left my body upon impact... 🤣🤣

Stay forever young OP, it's good to show off what we're capable of... Even if it does take a week to recover from it 🤣

Fwiw, I'd alternate the heat with cold. Heat to warm the muscle and relax it but cold and ibuprofen to help with any swelling, (I used to do martial arts, spent a few years stinking of Deep Heat and Deep Freeze spray!) Probably done it wrong though but that's my (possibly terrible) advice 🤣

mylifestory · 03/01/2024 00:13

Ibuprofen

determinedtomakethiswork · 01/01/2024 10:40

This has really made me laugh. I hope it all heals up soon and hope you have learned the error of your ways!

Or start gentle stretching exercises so you can do this without doing yourself a damage, not matter how slight and temporary! Just watched a video of an 80-year-old woman doing splits, handsprings, and cartwheels. I am in AWE!

OldPerson · 03/01/2024 00:34

You're not the first and you won't be the last silly foolish older person. But that doesn't mean your subconscious isn't giving you a nudge that you want to be fitter and more active and feel younger. Maybe 2024 is your year to shine - and increase walking and fitness activity and maybe challenge yourself to a walk/dance/run 5km "Race for Life" Cancer charity event. It won't kill you. You don't have to be that fit. It's fun and you know all your family/ friends/ colleagues will be applauding you.

Northsideoftheriver · 03/01/2024 00:41

Glorious thread OP. The pain should calm down within the week (I hope).

At least you aren't alone! Lots of us have done similar. Last summer the kids were doing hand stands and the likes in the park. I don't know what it is, despite being in my 40s, I think I can join in. I announced I used to be good at cart wheels.
I stupidly took a big run up. There was so much momentum I couldn't stop, so ended up doing about three really fast and heavy ones in succession with the kids going mental and clapping, thinking I was doing it on purpose. How I didn't land on my face I don't know. The pain the next day was horrendous.

Pepsi2001 · 03/01/2024 19:42

Read this article somewhere else I'm sure few nights ago.

As you waddle around, if anyone asks just say too much fun NYE and blush. Then mutter a manly name under your breath as you walk away....

Okay, I was already snort laughing while reading of all of the exploits, but this, right there above, did me in.

I'm dead. 😂😵🍺🍷

I don't think she's given herself an abscess by doing the splits pissed

bemusedmoose · 04/01/2024 10:15

Your muscles are just complaining about being used in ways they haven't been used for a while. You'll be fine. Warm bath with rosemary and epsom salts really helps the muscles.

If it was bad you would definitely have known about it at the time.

ellyeth · 05/01/2024 13:57

Sorry, this made me laugh. Well done to you. I expect the discomfort will wear off in a few days.

CCN2012 · 07/01/2024 07:29

I tried to prove I could do a handstand just 2 days ago, in work of all places. I completely forgot my wrist was sore and therefore weak until I collapsed head first onto the floor, the hospital floor! I swear my head is now flat on top and I have some neck pain. 😐 😂😂. I won't be showing off again any time soon.
