To be scared that I’m still marked by the crows?

ChoccyOrangeYum · 31/12/2023 23:14

A couple of years ago I walked the dog on a local field. I know nothing about birds but I was later told it was their breeding season.

Anyway we must have got too close to their nests as they suddenly started flying around irrationally, making a hell of a racket screaming etc and then started dive bombing the dog. The dog thought this was fun so started chasing the crows. All hell broke loose basically and we were suddenly surrounded by crows going mental. We made a quick exit!!

I left it a few days then took the dog back on the field but after speaking to locals about the crows I stayed away from the back of the field (where they’re breeding) and kept dog in lead. As soon as we stepped on the field the noise started up again and the crows appeared and started dive bombing again! There was someone else on the field with a dog who the crows were totally ignoring!

We left and after a bit of research I found that crows remember faces and don’t forgive easily 😬 so we didn’t go back on.

A whole year later we went back on assuming the old crows won’t be there anymore but we were on there 5 minutes before it all started again. These birds are not bothering anyone else on the field, just me!!

Anyway my neighbour has suggested we go for a walk in the field tomorrow morning but I’m shit scared of the birds. Will they still go for me if I don’t have the dog?! Will they ever move on from the incident 2 years ago or am I banned from the field for life?!

@Emotionalsupportviper it's posts like yours that make MN worth it 😂

Oh, how kind. 😊

I think that threads like this make MN worth it. It's been so much fun and so friendly.

We tire of cheeses.

There is no substitute for the flesh of the mendacious human.

However, we will afford you the courtesy of knowing the fate of Choccy and her friend, for we are not a wholly unreasonable species

<gulp>

I . . . I . . . I had been going to offer you some Naice Ham, but I suspect your tummies are probably full.

You do know that there are probably bye-laws about leaving random skellingtons lying about, don't you?

Especially when one of them seems to be a dog with a human head. (Or possibly a human with a dog's body.) And has several spines where the ribs should be. I hope you haven't been playing with the bones. You know how much it confuses archeologists.

Do you think OP will pop up in post number 1000, crazed, dishevelled and gleefully snarling "Heeeerre's Choccy" á la The Shining?

Maybe she realised she meant to write cows and this should have been a whole other thread.

Mmm - cows are scary, but rarely (as far as I am aware) start flying around irrationally.

(In the interests of full disclosure, I am not a cowologist, so I may be wrong about this.)

The Crow GIF

This is what she looks like now.

LauderSyme · 12/01/2024 15:43

I thought we had established that crows are scarily rational ?

My db and friends chanced upon "psycho sheep" during a scouting trip in rugged terrain. Scarred them for life. Let's not 'misunderestimate' cows here 😉

Emotionalsupportviper · 12/01/2024 19:01

I have been chased by a sheep Lauder. They do indeed have hidden psycho tendencies. And by a cow, which trapped me on top of a feed bin while it tried to horn me just out of spite*, and by a herd of donkeys, and bitten by a horse, a goose and a number of hamsters.

Thinking back, I'd probably be better off never leaving the house.

*It was a mulberry Jersey cow. Apparently dairy cattle in general, and Jersey cattle in particular, are notoriously aggressive, despite their pretty eyes.

Now they tell me.

Thanks to every single one who contributed to this post. It’s been great.

Emotionalsupportviper · 12/01/2024 19:40

Seconded.

So much fun.

So much solidarity.

So many crows.

magnitude100 · 12/01/2024 19:56

If we’re lucky @ChoccyOrangeYum will start a second post, if it turns out she actually did make it out of that field.

I assume there will be very important stories to be told.

A mulberry Jersey cow you say? I had to google, and what a magnificent cow. Stunning.

I think if I ever get tired of crows, cows will be my new passion.

Emotionalsupportviper · 12/01/2024 20:40

Jersey cows are small but savage, Mags.

I think Shakespeare had one in mind when he wrote. "Though she be but small, she is fierce", though in fairness my daughter thinks he must have met me in a parallel universe.

Emotionalsupportviper · 12/01/2024 20:41

If @ChoccyOrangeYum returns, I hope she links this thread somehow.

I need to know about life in the savage kingdom of the crows.

NewtonPulsifer · 13/01/2024 05:54

Hang on a moment…we have a mystery to solve here Scoob. .Lying here with insomnia and it has suddenly dawned on me….
ChoccyORANGEYum 🤔 Is this a new marketing campaign for the return of squash drink Kia-Ora? Will Choccy return to tell us she was Too Orangey For Crows?
Will Kia-Ora bring out a Choccy flavour?
Will the advert involve her dog? “I’ll be your dog?”?!? and a procession of Mumsnetters?
if so, I am IN!!!

To be scared that I’m still marked by the crows?

The Jersey cows I met were intent on licking my wellies and lined up to take turns. They were rather sweet.

This is the only possible reasonable explanation. (If they do bring out a Choccy flavour, I hope it's not a @ChoccyOrangeYum flavour, IYSWIM. They would have a limited market - corvids, vultures, wolves, possibly . . . )

The Jersey cows I met were intent on licking my wellies and lined up to take turns. They were rather sweet.

That is to lure you into a false sense of security, toasty my friend! Or maybe because there were lots of them they were deciding amongst themselves who should savage you first. Or trying to entice you to come down and skip playfully across the verdant sward with them. DON'T DO IT, TOASTY!

Do not be fooled by their pretty eyes! (They DO have VERY pretty eyes.)

They hide souls of demonic eeeeevillll.

Inastatus · 13/01/2024 09:27

I’m terrified of cows! And now obviously, thanks to this thread, crows and otters! Am I safe from any animal? Even my cat is giving me the evils as I type this. Maybe a goldfish would be a better bet..

OldTinHat · 13/01/2024 11:51

Oh bloody hell!

I've been watching this thread since the OP first posted. I'm using the app and it takes frigging ages to manually scroll down to the latest post. And it's about chocolate Kiora! FFS!

No OP update! She's gone, she's been taken hostage by the crows. RIP OP 🐦‍⬛

MNHQ Can you please, please sort the app out? So you can just read the OPs posts or be able to scroll by page? And I still can't report posts on the app (Android, latest update, Samsung phone).

You can filter on the app. It's the funnel thing and then op's name.
