More a wwyd? XL bully

alrightluv · 31/12/2023 07:42

There's an awful couple moved in our street. It's terraced. Always fighting and letting their huge XL bully run in the street. The dog hasn't shown aggression so far.

My problem is they have little control over it. There's children in the street and walking to and from school.

Yet again early hours they're arguing plus others in the house are. The dog is in the street.

I'm tempted to report them but an innocent dog could be taken away. I just don't want to regret it if it does turn. It's so big an adult wouldn't stand a chance.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

Fine but 100 % there will be an attack in Scotland in a few weeks. The Scottish government is probably just scared to upset the public

ValerieMoore · 31/12/2023 10:08

(I don’t believe there are attacks in Scotland Ireland or Wales)

BigBoysDontCry · 31/12/2023 10:10

There have been plenty of attacks in Scotland. We have a whole thread going on in Scotsnet about it.

ValerieMoore · 31/12/2023 10:11

Oh I see. Well they kept that out of the news

BigBoysDontCry · 31/12/2023 10:18

A Google of XL bully attack Scotland brings up stories in press/TV but I agree if you are not looking for it you might not see.

I would report any dog that’s being allowed to run free in the street, the breed is irrelevant

I agree.

I don’t understand why people change their minds/actions simply because it’s an XL bully.

I love dogs but any breed can be dangerous and I would not be happy with one running around out of control, especially around kids.

People need to start using their common sense when it comes to all dogs and not just certain breeds.

Its actually really concerning the amount of threads that would be happy with a dog around their child, as long as it’s not an XL bully.

I hope this sort of mindset isn’t going to lead to even more injuries, than before the ban.

oneflewoverthe · 31/12/2023 10:20

Definitely report them.

GreenClock · 31/12/2023 10:20

The Scottish gov’s (in)actions have led to the arrival of loads of these dangerous dogs, then?

As a dog lover I understand the instinct not to PTS and to send them to safety, but human safety needs to prevail. There’s going to be severe attacks on Scottish council estates instead of English/welsh ones. The problem has just been moved.

SomeCatFromJapan · 31/12/2023 10:21

@ValerieMoore a kennel owner in Dundee, Adam Watts, was killed by an XL Bully after the police had seized it from its owner due to several prior dog attack incidents.

Mischance · 31/12/2023 10:23

Police. Definitely.

How would you feel if you did not report and a child got mauled?

I am sorry you have this situation to deal with and such hopeless neighbours.

NorthernGirlie · 31/12/2023 10:23

A grown man was killed when one ripped his throat out in Sunderland

Report it op and feel no guilt at all.

Dibbydoos · 31/12/2023 10:27

Do we 'have to' put humans first?

Wtf.

That poor dog would be better homed elsewhere. They probably send it out cos they're arguing and that upsets the dog.

Go make friends with them so you can have a word and ask them to find somewhere safe for the dog. Even their back yard would be better.

I loathe this stupid legislation. Rescues should be given time to rehome xl bullies, they shouldn't be put to sleep because of an irresponsible human.

Personally I'd rather have a dog as a companion than a human. My dog saved me from a stalker, so he is my hero!

Megifer · 31/12/2023 10:27

If this helps, I'll be doing what I'd normally do.

If I see any dog wandering around with owners nearby and its causing no issues - I'll no nothing

If I see a dog wandering about looking lost ill try and get it to a vet for chip to be checked

If I can't get hold of the dog or its a bit feisty I'll put a post on local FB page.

If its clearly a stray I'll ring the dog warden.

Or I might share it on MN to see if it winds people up on the day of a ban, not sure....

ValerieMoore · 31/12/2023 10:29

@Dibbydoos Because we matter more than dogs ?

Yes, there is a thread about it on Scotsnet. Obviously most of the thinking people are appalled but there are the usual apologists.

I'm still waiting for the traits that these dogs have that lead to them being the ideal choice as family pets or any positive traits really that can't be found in another breed that isn't likely to kill you.

JingleSnowmanTree · 31/12/2023 10:37

AhBiscuits · 31/12/2023 07:58

If it's loose call the dog warden. It's a crime now. Hopefully it will be taken and PTS.

@AhBiscuits

hoping a dog is killed, is sick.

thedefinitive · 31/12/2023 10:39

It wouldn't be a shame if either of them were PTS!

Definitely report, ring the police. It's totally irresponsible to let it roam the streets. Even if it doesn't attack a person or other animal (and there is a high risk of this) then just running up to people is extremely intimidating.

And already against the law.

DoodlesMam · 31/12/2023 10:42

report the dog. ticking time bomb. it should be muzzled any way.

Just because it's not being reported in the media, doesn't mean it isn't happening (which of course it is) - I'm referring to attacks on other dogs/animals and not just people btw.

seafronty · 31/12/2023 08:48

I reckon every XL Bully should be executed then bulldozed in to an open grave. What about the next dog like Dogo Argentino that will become the dog of choice for the small brained fragile ego'd local weed dealer? Yep, shoot them too. If you're dog can't be picked up and thrown away if it attacks someone, then it's too big.

@seafronty

your post is vile. Truly vile.

but ignoring the vilest parts.

...you want all dogs - labs, collies, boxers, golden retrievers, greyhounds, lurchers (I could go on) to be killed because they can't be picked up & thrown away.

you need therapy.

There's probably a few MNers who have saved FB posts about litters of abandoned puppies on the countdown so they can check later that they have been PTS. If they are lucky there might be a video or two of the procedure.

I'm so sad and angry today, for the dogs that dont deserve this, for the responsible owners, for the dogs who arent even XL that are going to get typed, for the poor vets and rescue workers, for everyone who has been victim to one of the untrained uncared for dogs. Horrible situation that shouldn't have happened and has been largely created by fuckwits who had no idea that a big dog actually needs a lot of work.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 31/12/2023 10:55

There’s many a fuckwit that owns any type of dog these days unfortunately and have no clue how to care for them or how to control them

We've been busy preparing neutering certificates for xl bully owners and helping them with discounted neutering and getting them in as a priority.

A question for you as I know you're vocal in your support of XL bully owners.

Do you genuinely believe that it is ever sensible or responsible for a parent with children in the home to choose an XL bully as the family pet, rather than one of the many other breeds available?
