More a wwyd? XL bully

There's an awful couple moved in our street. It's terraced. Always fighting and letting their huge XL bully run in the street. The dog hasn't shown aggression so far.

My problem is they have little control over it. There's children in the street and walking to and from school.

Yet again early hours they're arguing plus others in the house are. The dog is in the street.

I'm tempted to report them but an innocent dog could be taken away. I just don't want to regret it if it does turn. It's so big an adult wouldn't stand a chance.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

If it's loose call the dog warden. It's a crime now. Hopefully it will be taken and PTS.

Ah yes. PTS as though it's nothing. Poor dog let down by the humans who own it and the one to pay the ultimate price.

ValerieMoore · 31/12/2023 11:37

I know it is a shame. Ideally they would be taken to a facility till they died out.

Freshair1 · 31/12/2023 11:56

Why are people so invested in dogs? Can't see people getting in such a tizz about the millions raised for slaughter.

I mean my brain allows me to think about multiple things.....maybe not always at the same time. I'd describe it like a conveyer belt type thing that just goes round, so i think about something....it moves on....Next thing....then eventually the original thing will come back round, and so on.

It also depends what the topic is so e.g. if I was in a conversation about chickens, it might make me think about eggs, which might lead me to bacon, but it might be a bit weird to say "but what about bacon" if the conversation was about fox proofing a chicken run for e.g.

I didn't think this was unusual but maybe I have a bit of a special ability?

I feel sorry for them too. We’re savages.

What a disgusting post.

What's wrong with not being highly educated? Not everyone can afford to be. What's wrong with being from a broken family? Not all families stay together. What's wrong with having an accent and being a homebody? Etc etc

seafronty · 31/12/2023 12:25

Hi @JingleSnowmanTree would you rather your child was attacked by my 2.9kg shitzu or a 55kg XL? That's it. 1 or the other. Vile it may sound but PTS is the best idea for XLs. Go find the experienced kennel owner here in Scorland, who rehomed a dangerous XL from the police, only to be killed by it. Sometimes, it is actually the dogs and not the owners. Banning, neutering, massive fines for unlicensed ownership, PTS at any sign of outward aggressive behaviour, full face muzzles, whatever. Idiots are still gonna let their idiot dogs be idiots. Just ban them. And the next and the next and the next.

Mischance · 31/12/2023 12:41

If it comes to a choice between the risk of a child being mauled/disfigured/killed and a dog being put down then it is a no brainer. The dog has to go.

These dogs are the product of human intervention by selective breeding - sadly humans must find the solution, and very often this will result in a dog being put down. Not ideal, but inevitable.

Balloonhearts · 31/12/2023 11:14

Breed is irrelevant. Loose dog: call the dog warden.

This. I have a breed that’s known to be a flight risk, capable of clearing 6ft fences etc. as such, he’s GPS tracked 24/7 but if he did manage to escape I’d hope someone would call the dog warden to increase the chances of getting him back unharmed.

BigBoysDontCry · 31/12/2023 12:52

I think people are failing to understand that it's the size/power/jaw grip etc that's the problem together with the inbred nature. So even in the most loving home, a dog can develop a brain tumour, have a fit etc and then fly into a rage. If that dog is a collie or spaniel or whatever, chances are that you can overpower it or escape, especially as a grown adult or larger child or you could defend your smaller child.

I'm a full grown large adult but I still weigh under 9 stone. Some of these dogs weigh more than me and are definitely stronger. I'd not stand a chance.

Why take the risk when your DC and household could love a different type of dog just as much?

And yes, it's a shame that for some the solution will be for them to be euthanised. It's not the dogs fault it's the breeders and people supporting them by paying for the puppies but it's apparently not OK to suggest that these people are euthanised too.

Schoolrunmumbun · 31/12/2023 13:11

Unfortunately I have experience of living next door to a banned breed of dog that was dangerous.

Because your neighbour dog is roaming public spaces, that means dog warden can act. Report to them, council and police and keep reporting til it's gone.

Sod the dog.
Report it. You'd feel awful if it did maul someone and you hadn't reported it.

Freshair1 · 31/12/2023 13:40

Can we not use the word Karen as a slur? It's lazy misogyny.

Jeez, what planet are you on?

Harrassment charges 😂

Yes, much more acceptable for people such as yourself to not be harassed than it is to save people from attack and death by dangerous dogs.

Megifer · 31/12/2023 13:50

It's almost like the Government knew all they needed to do was say "ok we'll ban them" to shut some people up. Quite worrying really that some are so easily lulled into a false sense of security.

OP has already said she's more likely to get punched if she speaks to them. They don't sound like reasonable, decent people.

Tbh people who choose to have XL bullies in their family home aren't reasonable or sensible. Because of all the breeds you could choose, choosing that one is irresponsible and selfish. And dangerous. All dogs have the potential to snap. Which is why having one in a family home that you can't overpower if that happens, one that can very easily maim or kill people if it goes into attack mode, with no hope of overpowering it, is shit parenting.

The kind of owners who let an XL bully run about in the street aren't exactly likely to comply with the muzzle and lead restriction are they? And if they do, there won't be a problem when they are visited after OP reports. They'll be perfectly capable of registering the dog and adhering to the new rules.

whatsitcalledwhen · 31/12/2023 13:57

@Wateroverwine

I'm waiting on the Karen's to report me for my non XL bully dog. So I can bring harrassment charges against them.

How do you see this working? Someone believes your dog is an XL bully and in line with current laws, they report this belief for the appropriate authorities to then check and decide.

This absolutely doesn't fit any harassment criteria at all.

Megifer · 31/12/2023 14:01

And people believing the police/The Authorities would honestly lie in wait for hours waiting for Suspected XL Bully Owner to walk their dog in the area they were last seen to measure the dog 🙄 101 will go "ok thanks for the report", maybe note it down, and ask the non existent patrolling officers to keep their eye open for a lady with a large dog...umm.....somewhere......

Shade17 · 31/12/2023 14:08

Just how many times are you expecting a single person to report you? Presumably they won’t bother a second time?

oakleaffy · 31/12/2023 18:51

Sirzy · 31/12/2023 07:49

They sound like the kind of owner who have led to this whole mess so yes report them.

This in spades ♠️.
Classic aggressive irresponsible owners who let a large powerful dog wander freely to let it attack people’s pets or random passers by.

Definitely report.

You could save an innocent dog or person from a serious mauling- or worse.
