More a wwyd? XL bully

There's an awful couple moved in our street. It's terraced. Always fighting and letting their huge XL bully run in the street. The dog hasn't shown aggression so far.

My problem is they have little control over it. There's children in the street and walking to and from school.

Yet again early hours they're arguing plus others in the house are. The dog is in the street.

I'm tempted to report them but an innocent dog could be taken away. I just don't want to regret it if it does turn. It's so big an adult wouldn't stand a chance.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

You have 2 XL Bullies living in close proximity OP?

confuseeedd · 31/12/2023 08:41

The new law is a plan to phase the breed out.

They won't be PTS for no apparent reason, but they must be on a lead and muzzled on public, not bred, not sold, not advertised and not given away. You own one, you look after it within the law until they die or you/the dog does something unlawful.

That stood out to me too, I've never even seen one in real life and don't know too much about them but is there an increased risk that they might set upon each other and make things even worse?

seafronty · 31/12/2023 08:48

I reckon every XL Bully should be executed then bulldozed in to an open grave. What about the next dog like Dogo Argentino that will become the dog of choice for the small brained fragile ego'd local weed dealer? Yep, shoot them too. If you're dog can't be picked up and thrown away if it attacks someone, then it's too big.

Abbimae · 31/12/2023 08:49

They should indeed be put to sleep as they are dangerous.

We don't all live in the leafy suburbs.

Ginnnny · 31/12/2023 09:17

Report the loose dog for sure! Although normally I’d say the breed is irrelevant, with the new laws on XL Bully dogs the police/dog warden will probably action your report quickly.
I haven’t read all the comments but if you’re also planning to report your neighbours be very careful - I reported a neighbour many years ago and the police told them it was me which ended with us having to move.

colourfulchinadolls · 31/12/2023 09:20

Report the dog and get it pts before it kills a human OP.

There's way too much emotion being given to these dogs. They're not 'innocent animals' they're literally bred to fight and kill. The type of people who tend to own them doesn't help but that isn't going to change - nice families who care about their dogs and society aren't going to suddenly want to own one of these creatures. They're banned from tomorrow, and rightly so. Do the right thing.

Animas are innocent imo but it’s a bit like having a pet bear

forgotmyusername1 · 31/12/2023 09:26

As from now it cannot be in public unless it is muzzled and on a lead

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 31/12/2023 09:27

This is the issue now a days dog owners assigning human feelings to a pet, it does no body any good

It won't be put to sleep just like that. Read the legislation rather than posting misinformation. The law will be explained to them and they will be told they need to comply. You can re-home them. As long as the new owner complies with he change in legislation, no law has been broken.

Really?

According to the government:

From 31 December 2023 it will be illegal to rehome, sell, buy, or transfer ownership of an XL Bully dog to another person.

This isn't true. The new law says that they cannot legally be rehomed.

Any dog found roaming should be reported to the dog warden, because of its own welfare and the potential to cause an accident. No dog regardless of the breed should be roaming.

Toooldtoworry · 31/12/2023 09:35

I would report to the dog warden regardless if it was an XL or any other breed. Any dog can inflict injury, or cause traffic chaos.

I have 3 dogs. They've got out once in the 10 years I've owned them because someone jimmied the back gate open trying to break into my house. They weren't expecting dogs to come their way barking (no biting).

Thankfully my neighbour saw them and grabbed them and shoved them back into my garden (I was in my home office and not seen what had happened) but I made sure my gate was not just locked, but padlocked from that day forward so they could never escape again. Responsible ownership is important, and it sounds like your neighbours are not that kind of person sadly.

ChristmasEvemaddness · 31/12/2023 09:38

They have an innate strong prey drive and odd things can set them off. They are extremely hard to fight off because of their size.

That's why the law says they must be muzzled in public, nurtured, be in a lead and the owners have insurance.

Report.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 31/12/2023 09:40

Focus on the humans actions, not the dogs breed.
They are irresponsible, careless owners putting the public at risk. Yes report them.
With the law changing, from tomorrow the dog will likely be removed from their ownership and put down.
Them being such stand up citizens probably won't adhere to the new restrictions anyway so it is a matter of time for the dog to be seized.
They'll get another dog, one not banned, such as a cane corso or presa canario and rinse and repeat.

megletthesecond · 31/12/2023 09:41

Report them. I've even reported a distant neigbour who is unfit to own (literally, two wallkng sticks ffs) and can't control his lunging German Shepherd.

I bet you live in a very different place to me! We have two on our road.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 31/12/2023 09:47

I really hope this ban is a step in the right direction to start more control over dog ownership full stop. Far too many dogs in this country and far too many owned by knob heads who shouldn’t have them, leave them alone all day, never walked, left to bark, their crap not picked up, running at people. Then the other end of the spectrum their precious pooch can’t possibly be left at home so must come absolutely everywhere and take the most offence when you don’t love their pooch as much as them

TimetoPour · 31/12/2023 09:53

YANBU and should definitely report.

Yes, the likelihood is the dog will be removed and PTS but idiot owners like these are why this rule is being put in place. It is a huge dog that is out of control and unfortunately any out of control dog is dangerous. It’s a shame they can’t put down the owners too.

BigBoysDontCry · 31/12/2023 09:55

The dog warden reckons there are around 30 living in the estate next to mine, that was about a year ago after we reported attacks on other dogs, including one fatal and a dead deer that looked like a dog attack. 2 were chasing children in the play park. Advice was to club together to build a fence round the park. There is one guy who had 3, he's been told to only have one at a time out by dog warden but he doesn't comply.

I'm in Scotland so no new law for us and apparently plenty of dogs getting shipped up over the border to "save" them.

OP report and report and report.

ValerieMoore · 31/12/2023 09:59

@BigBoysDontCry that’ll be interesting considering there aren’t attacks in Scotland at present.

BigBoysDontCry · 31/12/2023 10:05

Oh yes, we clearly have all the best behaved XL bullies and similar types up here, not like your English variety...

It's utter madness the lengths that the SNP will go to to show that we are different/better, like putting society in danger.

BigBoysDontCry · 31/12/2023 10:06

Or did I pick the tone up wrong and you believe we don't have attacks? I'm sorry I'm tired...
