Feminist but support women hating philosophies and cultures
LGBT friendly except for the L part
Want to make minorities feel safe except for the Jewish community
Believe in the NHS but go private when needed
Think we should continue atoning for colonialism but mention Germany and WW2 and its like....move on already
Hate unearned privilege but it's handy I'll be left a property
Applaud multiculturalism but seek out monoculturalism in my holidays
Avoid palm oil as it kills trees but I must have a Christmas tree
Eat vegan because factory farming is disgusting....except the stuff that goes into my rescue cat food
Believe women shouldn't kneel to the standards and demands of the patriarchy, but I still remove my body hair, its my choice after all

So animal rights before human rights?

I don't agree with that at all. I'd much rather our observant Jewish communities remain than make Britain a place where it is impossible for them to practice their faith. But then I'm not an antisemite and I despise antisemitism, including that from animal rights Virtue signallers.

That's quite the take and quite the accusation.

I do not think that any human being has the 'right' to be needlessly cruel to an animal and I will never chance my mind on that. Many horrible atrocities take place in the name of religion/culture and it is never an excuse - this does not make me an anti Semite or a virtue signaller whatever you might say.

There is always a better, kinder way to treat animals and human beings should be seeking these ways out at all times.

Errrrr yes I do.

My son competes internationally for Britain and his is a sport that's done this.

Not all sports have done yet but many have. They haven't needed government enforcement to make the right decisions.

So how do you explain this decision taken merely days ago?

DewHopper · 01/01/2024 16:59

itsgettingweird · 01/01/2024 14:15

And what boxing has done in the USA isn't affected by our government 🤔

Did I say it was?

DewHopper · 01/01/2024 17:04

Barbadossunset · 01/01/2024 16:44

My issue is animal cruelty and that transcends borders imo. .

DewHopper what are your views on fishing? (I mean hobby fishing as well as trawler fishing).

I am not a fan but appreciate that people who catch and kill fish as humanely as possible and then eat them are more honest about their food production and the animal has probably lived a good life and had a quick death. I feel the same way about rough shooting to be honest.

Trawler fishing is destroying habitats and kills mammals as well as millions of fish - it's an industrial process.

It's a complex issue isn't it but I feel that if people cared more where their food came from then we would not have the horrifying industrial levels of cruelty in the world that we have now.

Yes I think that all slaughter without stunning should be banned.

Can we just make sure we have the facts right on what kosher is please before putting false news out there.

I mean if you think about it, if then end result is death in pursuit of gluttony, is there really a humane way to kill an animal? Personally I don’t think so. Similarly, dairy farming is unbelievably cruel. But unless we become a vegan nation, it’s the way it is.

DewHopper · 01/01/2024 17:14

I completely agree Karen but I can't just shrug my shoulders and say 'it's the way it is'.

There are better, kinder ways of keeping animals, killing animals and getting milk from animals (there are several dairy farms in the UK who allow cows to keep their calves at foot for example).

Doing nothing is not an option when we know that we could do things better.

DewHopper · 01/01/2024 17:21

I agree except in the case of octopus. Factory farmed animals have a really vile life which makes me doubt the motives of hunt saboteurs and those who disrupt shoots.. If they actually cared about animals, factory farms and fish farms would be their first priority.

LefthandRight · 01/01/2024 17:29

The way I decide on what takes precedence is by looking at the level of choice inherent to a state of being.

An animal does not have the choice to exist.
A human has the choice to adopt religious beliefs.

Therefore: an animal takes precedence over faith.

DewHopper · 01/01/2024 17:31

Yes I quite agree with all of your points. Not sure if you know but octopus farms are becoming a 'thing'. Just tragic for those wonderful, intelligent creatures. Everything done for maximum profit and minimum welfare as usual.

common octopus swimming along

World's first octopus farm proposals alarm scientists

Methods used on the Spanish farm would be "cruel" to such intelligent animals say experts, as details emerge.

Every person alive is a walking mass of contradictions. That's about the only thing I could add to this debate.

LefthandRight · 01/01/2024 09:42

I think some attitudes eg in support of high immigration could be reversed. It could be considered a right wing view to support high immigration as it disrupts the ecosystem that mainly the poor rely on.
Similarly Leave could have been a fundamentally left wing view as it could have been approached as a desire to return to a kind of protective local attitude.
I'm not sure the left vs right poles are relevant anymore in the modern world actually

Well the right has had 13 years with stop immigration as it's flagship policy and yet had failed dismally to stop it.

Instead the right s policies of reducing foreign aid, exacerbated climate change make it worse

Getting rid of human rights protections in order to send people back will likely also get rid of human rights for people here so UK lives would continue to deteriorate.

Luddite26 · 01/01/2024 18:27

I will never step foot in Morrisons after seeing Octopus for sale for 80p in the bargain whoopsie fridge. Just sick.

I am disillusioned with the left for their stance on women's rights not trans rights. We are a sex class in our own right and the left cannot seem to acknowledge this.

I don't think that the Tories care much about women's rights but there are some great Tory women heading up a fight back which I cannot see in Labour apart from Rosie Duffield who is hated by most of her party.

There's Tonia Antoniazzi.

spanishviola · 01/01/2024 19:02

mollyfolk · 31/12/2023 09:07

Palm oil contributes to deforestation and destroys animal habitats, Christmas trees are a crop that are cut down and then replaced yearly; your talking about two different things. Anti semitism is wrong and so is starving and killing civilians- it doesn’t have to be a “your either with us or against us” position. Women’s rights are about choice - having to remove your body hair - wrong - choosing to remove body hair;
nobodies else’s business. Can’t even attempt an argument with the rest of your list - like honestly who supports LGBT rights but doesn’t support lesbian rights?? What’s a monocultural holiday?

This.

Barbadossunset · 01/01/2024 19:35

I am appalled at the idea of octopus farms.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/01/2024 19:38

There's Tonia Antoniazzi.

Yes, she got piled on over the last couple of days as "transphobic" by the Youth Wing of Labour for posting a meme that female spaces weren't available to be given away.

itsgettingweird · 01/01/2024 20:25

So how do you explain this decision taken merely days ago?

I can't. But it's still a sports body decision and not a government one. And they've followed the rest of the world in swimming hence why Lia Thomas has decided to quit.

But you are finding 1 sport to prove your point. I'm saying that in general sports have taken the lead without government
Intervention and it's
Not a left or right wing issue which you are trying to argue it is.

It's not. It's a trans issue.

Xenia · 01/01/2024 20:33

I htink you can be on the left or right and have views on the trans issue, but in general terms left wing/Labour party people seem to want to eradicate women and it was Theresa May (when Tory leader) who refused to change the English gender change law and is an unsung hero for this (as well as for her work on modern slavery)

Are you serious?

Theresa May was the final nail in the Tory coffin. She completed the party’s journey from a conservative outfit to a left wing crackpot party.

It was Theresa May who wanted to change the GRA @Xenia. Can we stop rewriting history to suit our purposes, please?

It was PM Theresa May who first put Self ID on the table back in 2017.

And who happily supports and promotes men in women's sports? Right or Left wingers broadly would you say? Not talking about governments at all btw - talking about people.
