Feminist but support women hating philosophies and cultures
LGBT friendly except for the L part
Want to make minorities feel safe except for the Jewish community
Believe in the NHS but go private when needed
Think we should continue atoning for colonialism but mention Germany and WW2 and its like....move on already
Hate unearned privilege but it's handy I'll be left a property
Applaud multiculturalism but seek out monoculturalism in my holidays
Avoid palm oil as it kills trees but I must have a Christmas tree
Eat vegan because factory farming is disgusting....except the stuff that goes into my rescue cat food
Believe women shouldn't kneel to the standards and demands of the patriarchy, but I still remove my body hair, its my choice after all

@itsgettingweird Well there is the thing about them restoring single sex wards. When women are sick, they are at their most vulnerable. So that's kind of important and a big one.

Plenty of hospitals still have them. I stayed in one last June when I had surgery 🤷‍♀️

Are you saying that these sheep are stunned to unconsciousness before being bled? In the Middle East?

Halal without stunning is incredibly cruel.

While you are right to call out hypocrisy on the left, because there’s plenty of it, why is it for anyone in this country to judge how people slaughter their meat in the Middle East. When in Rome, and all that.

I don't think anyone cares what happens in the ME. But halal meat isn't only eaten in the ME is it?

Yes, his sheep are stunned before slaughter. Then they are exported from the UK to the ME.

The Halal meat is a red herring. If you don’t want to eat it, you don’t have to, at least in this country.

It seems the point here is about multiculturalism. Whether it’s possible to be respectful for multi ethnicity without accepting everything about multiculturalism. And when you have no choice but to accept multiculturalism. Which is where lefties fall down. Their cloak of tolerance and ‘progressiveness’ falls right off when they are impacted by it.

In modern times, Martha’s Vineyard is the best example of it. The reaction of this town’s residents to having illegal immigrants sent there was nothing short of text book leftie.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/01/2024 12:32

@DewHopper do you think British Jews shouldn't be allowed to be kosher?

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/01/2024 12:43

LefthandRight · 01/01/2024 12:20

Ah yes farmers, those well known ethicists

Do the right have a problem with farming and eating meat now?Confused

LefthandRight · 01/01/2024 12:44

You'd have to ask the right

Are you not right wing @LefthandRight?

LefthandRight · 01/01/2024 12:49

No, I always vote Labour. My OP was inspired by some things I do myself. Others I don't but I see it in my circle

What exactly IS your point?

I've stated it clearly and repeatedly. I'm not convinced repeating it again will make it any clearer, but, in for a penny, and all that.

The statement "biological sex is immutable in nature" is factually incorrect, and not supported by science.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/01/2024 13:01

You don't have a point. The discussion was about human sex, as you know fully well.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/01/2024 13:03

The entire purpose of biological sex is reproductive role. Disorders of sex development occur within the sex binary and it's fatuous to suggest that their existence means sex isn't binary.

Well clearly some creatures can. Some are hermaphrodite.

You are doing the argument no favours by using this in a discussion on trans people who are (all mammals) changing sex.

The implication from nit picking this point to argue is that if it is possible in nature , it is possible in humans. Otherwise why not clarify to say ”biological sex is immutable in nature” is factually incorrect but only for certain species?”
The omission of clarity is as much a problem as the incorrect statement. Maybe more so as the context of the first statement was very clear ( op was talking about trans humans and biology).

Quite a few use mangled language, dodgy facts, insults, threats and actual violence against women who speak up

Thanks for countering some of what is lobbed in our direction with posts such as this. Mad as it is to need to.

My issue is animal cruelty and that transcends borders imo. .

Yes I think that all slaughter without stunning should be banned.

milkywinterdisorder · 01/01/2024 13:16

Does everyone who is disillusioned with the left because of their stance on trans rights really believe the Tories actually care about women’s rights?

I am disillusioned with the left for their stance on women's rights not trans rights. We are a sex class in our own right and the left cannot seem to acknowledge this.

I don't think that the Tories care much about women's rights but there are some great Tory women heading up a fight back which I cannot see in Labour apart from Rosie Duffield who is hated by most of her party.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/01/2024 13:23

No. But they are less ridiculous on this issue. I can't bring myself to vote for them though for all the other reasons and it would be a wasted vote in my constituency anyway. I'll see what independent candidates there are.

milkywinterdisorder · 01/01/2024 13:16

Does everyone who is disillusioned with the left because of their stance on trans rights really believe the Tories actually care about women’s rights?

No but I am seriously worried that Labour will bring in legislation to make it easier and quicker to "change sex" and that will be the end of women's sex based protections. That's not a small thing to give up, it's huge.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/01/2024 13:33

I think the problem is that many women don't quite grasp the utter delight a not inconsiderable number of men take in making women uncomfortable and transgressing our boundaries. Both males who identify as women, and their male friends on the left. I've never experienced so much misogyny as now from all sides. At least in the past left wing men had to actually pretend that they saw women as fully human.
