I'm pretty sure even the most die hard (?!) Tory can see that Britain is in a mess right now and we urgently need change. I support labour's vision for the economy but am worried about how society will unfold under them. I don't support their identity politics

Yes I think that all slaughter without stunning should be banned.

So animal rights before human rights?

I don't agree with that at all. I'd much rather our observant Jewish communities remain than make Britain a place where it is impossible for them to practice their faith. But then I'm not an antisemite and I despise antisemitism, including that from animal rights Virtue signallers.

I don’t think Labour have policies that will bring in funding. So it’s some bad policies with gender ideology on top.

Don’t bother answering then. It’s still not convincing.

Have you decided what ‘works’ means for offshore processing yet?

It means not having the second largest backlog of claims for asylum in Europe and not having to spend £££££ on housing and feeding claimants. Another way of freeing up money to improve public services.

LefthandRight · 01/01/2024 13:59

I think religious communities should he free to buy in whatever meat they need from wherever they can get it but I don't agree slaughter without stunning should be legal, and yes I do believe animal rights take precedence over religious beliefs

We’ll still be paying to house and process claimants, it doesn’t become free because it’s offshore Confused

If you are suggesting it’ll be faster then traffickers will appreciate it and continue to advertise by ease so U.K. will be bumped up again as a better option

How will you deal with the resulting increase?

Labour just openly declared that they will allow offshore asylum claims. Which means that anyone, anywhere will be able to claim asylum and then flown over. While the small boats will continue. Because the small boats are basically for economic migrants. Anyone who thinks that those coming over in small boats are fleeing persecution is incredibly naive.

So all in all, more asylum claims under labour, not fewer. Who knew that it was possible to be even worse than the Tories. But labour have a special talent for that.

Alcyoneus · 01/01/2024 14:11

Where’s the vision? This is pages upon pages of meaningless words. Everyone says they want to grow the economy. That’s not a vision. Except for those who still fall for these soundbites.

Funny because that’s what I think when you tag me on threads as often as you do.

In this case it sure is because you are blind to the fact that traffickers advertise by ease and your approach will increase that, and incredibly so as pressures grow

You're missing a key piece of behavioural change that means you’re falling for the unrealistic

BIossomtoes · 01/01/2024 14:12

So all in all, more asylum claims under labour, not fewer.

The number of claims doesn’t determine their success.

But ..... sports bodies now have transgender policies that allow only female sex born people to compete in female and everyone else competes in the male/open category

You don't know what you are talking about. Seen this recent decision adopted by the USA? In BOXING of all things.

https://talksport.com/sport/1695201/usa-boxing-new-transgender-policy-male-transition-fight-female/

Errrrr yes I do.

My son competes internationally for Britain and his is a sport that's done this.

Not all sports have done yet but many have. They haven't needed government enforcement to make the right decisions.

itsgettingweird · 01/01/2024 14:15

And what boxing has done in the USA isn't affected by our government 🤔

Our asylum success rate is higher than most of the EU. Traffickers know this and faster processing will be even more attractive obviously.

The numbers will grow very quickly

This thread really demonstrates that "left" and "right" have become almost irrelevant in political discussions now.

24 pages so far and barely any discussion about actual left and right-wing ideologies. Just pages and pages of arguements over niche issues, that are neither left or right in their nature, but that have co-opted by one side or the other.

notquiteruralbliss · 01/01/2024 14:25

People are complex. And think OP is lumping together beliefs that don't automatically go together as 'left wing'. I'd describe myself as left wing in that I want redistributive tax policies and increased spending on NHS, Education etc. I'd also describe myself as socially liberal, but that's nothing to do with being left wing. Nor are views on gender politics, animal rights or green issues.

This about sums it up. The OP wasn’t anywhere near the ‘gotcha’ they thought it was. Just a jumbled list of things they don’t like. I also agree the old ‘left and right’ thing is barely relevant anymore.

If that’s the take the op has gone for fine, it’s still generated discussion

I disagree. A vote for the Tories is a vote for yet more chaos and the same rats fighting in the same sack. Let's face it, everyone knows that Sunak will be gone as leader just after the GE. And as much as it delights me to watch them destroy themselves, the country can't afford it.

If the next government tries to cede our rights to men, we will fight it. Just as we fight it now.

Barbadossunset · 01/01/2024 16:44

My issue is animal cruelty and that transcends borders imo. .

DewHopper what are your views on fishing? (I mean hobby fishing as well as trawler fishing).
