name change urgh

long story short - over Xmas got talking about newspiece about Boxing Day ‘trail hunts’. Got shock of my life when family member (married in not blood) revealed she had on occasion when younger joined hunts. actual fox hunts.

this is something I feel strongly about. I would never have thought this about her.

aibu to feel shocked, disappointed, and look a little differently at her now?

I think the research was probably written by Prof McDonald who seems to be in charge of Oxford University wildlife conservation dept…..he’s written a lot of papers on fox hunting. And it does seem like he probably wouldn’t hunt himself, though my point about who is telling him the 17 mins stands. I can’t find a paper which talks about length of times of hunts.

i can find one where he talks about hunting is just for sport rather than being an effective way of culling foxes and he talks about how hunts make false earths for foxes, etc. So that’s a valid point, why do hunts create false earths and encourage breeding of foxes if they actually want to control numbers? They’re encouraging breeding so there are more foxes for them to chase!

Just. Sickening.

The hunt itself is extremely violent.

I am not a ‘saboteur’ of hunts, but I can see why they are exasperated at the lack of police presence, and the lack of arrests of those that are clearly breaking the law by allowing hunts with foxes to take place (instead of the drag hunt they pretend to host)

In fairness, some, but by no means all, hunts HAVE moved to hunt within the law. But sabs are happy to still sab bloodhounds.

There are some sabs that are styled as monitors who just want to ensure the law is abided by and just record for evidence. I don’t mind that at all. Unfortunately, the majority of sabs are ‘rent a mob’ and cause just as much destruction as they like to advertise to save.

There’s been a few members of the hunt prosecuted for assaulting sabs. I’m sure there’s the odd sab as well who has been violent but the prosecutions seem to support the fact it’s more hunts people who are violent.

https://www.wildlifeguardian.co.uk/hunting/hunt-convictions/

https://www.huntingact.org/the-hunting-act/prosecutions/

There’s several websites that list various sabs and their lists of convictions.
Until you’ve seen sabs drag children (at legitimate drag hunts) off ponies then it’s unbelievable to imagine. I understand it’s a very emotive subject and I too have several issues with it, but anybody causing harm to anybody for acting within or without a law is no better themselves. As I’ve said above, I’ve no issue at all with the type of hunt monitors who I think can act very well into making people consider quite whether they are acting within the law or not.

Has anybody given thought for the approximate 50 million birds that are killed and usually ripped apart by pet cats per year?

CormorantStrikesBack · 28/12/2023 10:30

I’ve just googled “hunt Sab pulls child off pony” and the only results are about that huntswoman who kicked her own pony.

if such events are happening then I’d suggest the hunts need to publicise it more.

Yes. Which is why my cats are house cats. Do you know Melbourne has a cat curfew

That’s called deflection, my friend.

Quite. But I think often things aren’t reported as perhaps both sides aren’t acting within the law!

Newchapterbeckons · 28/12/2023 12:23

There wouldn’t be a need for saboteurs in the first place if the police did their job properly.

Huntthevegans · 29/12/2023 05:05

Has anyone seen the facebook page about sabs rejoicing over someone dying very recently who was on a quad bike with a hunt. Proves just how disgusting these sabs are.

Newchapterbeckons · 29/12/2023 06:41

Oh do stop you are not linking any of your claims with real evidence or links.

Here you go. Absolutely vile. Edited to add Cinnamon Trust have been messaged so they are aware. I hate sabs for the vile use of language but would never rejoice in their death

CormorantStrikesBack · 29/12/2023 08:15

I just looked at that fb post and there’s a lot of people (her friends I assume) saying she shouldn’t be happy about someone dying. They sound like other sabs as they’re saying the girl who died might have changed her mind about hunting in the future, etc and that “we” shouldn’t be happy about anyone dying. I think that woman is in a minority. It does work both ways. I’m sure some hunt supporters would think it was great if a sab was killed.

Unbridled sadism. Just admit what it and what you are, hunt supporters. It's not as if the rest of us can't see you.

So you would too celebrate a hunt supporter’s death? Is that how far antis are prepared to go because someone has a different opinion?

newnamethanks · 29/12/2023 12:29

Nice name. Evidently well chosen.

scorpiogirly · 29/12/2023 12:46

I'd want nothing to do with someone who did this.

Collateral damage in the hunt of bloodlust for sadists.

Death, no. But they should be prosecuted for cruelty to animals.

It’s easy to pretend you are trail hunting if questioned, and that the hounds rioted after a fox and you were trying to get them under control.**

With fox hounds perhaps. Bloodhounds are totally different. Follow a set trail by a human runner, not an animal scent that could be mixed up. They even get to 'catch' the human at the end - the whole pack diving all over them getting a fuss. It's amazing to watch. Blood hounds are awesome

Exactly. Having not got a horse, as I mentioned, we do sometimes go out as quarry, so see the hounds working up close and personal. Bloodhounds 'riot' and go after fox poo when they are puppies like regular dogs at the start of their training and soon learn not to do that because they follow the others. They don't go after wild animals in my experience of being caught by them, because I flatter myself that I don't smell like a fox.
