Was I unreasonable to do this?

So..done my usual supermarket shop this evening and noticed the food/toy donation trolley looking a bit bare.

I paid for my shopping as usual, then went back round the aisles and picked out two toys worth around £10 each and put them in the bank (didn't pay)

Supermarkets make a huge profit and felt sad for families in hostels etc this Christmas!

I can’t make you agree with me and you know I never said it wasn’t shoplifting. App. 3-5 % of commenters think it was good. 1 in 100 people read but don’t comment.

Approx 6-8% of the UK population commit crime.

So it 3-5% of people agreeing seems right. 3-5% or people agreeing that it’s shoplifting ok does since 6-8% of the general population of the country will commit a crime.

The numbers of people seeing it don’t matter. The vast majority (95%-97%) think it was a dick move. Whether a 100 or 10,000 people saw it and didn’t comment, it’s still 3-5%. That’s how percentages work.

No break down of social order. Not even a whiff of it.

I don’t know why I find it so incredibly hilarious! 🤣

You're a thief. People like me are having to pay more because of people like you. Delusional and arrogant.

Poor old you a few extra quid on your shopping, I'd much rather see children with a massive smile on their face today

I wish folks would do more of this.

Supermarkets are fucking loaded, they can afford to give toys away, even if that giving away was unconventional.

KissyMissy · 25/12/2023 01:16

It's not theft unless u leave the store! I have already said maybe it was wrong but putting some toys in the food bank ( might I add to the noodles and cheap dog food that were already in there) I just thought it was a nice thing to do 😊

And my actual food shop came to £237.54, I most certainly would have paid but really didn't want to wait another hour plus for two toys in the queue! My baby brain had other ideas!

It's not right but it's ok. Fuck it! They'll never work it out, they do make obscene amounts and you will have made someone's Christmas.

💯

And if it make a child smile this Christmas then no harm is done!

Well there is. The shop is now down 2 items and it gets recorded on the years loses as missing stock. Think if more people thought like you and did this (which they probably do). Add that to the shoplifting bill and you've got shelf prices increasing to cover the loses. It wont come out of the big bosses wallets, they will pass the bill onto staff and public in the form of pay cuts and price increases.

Ok let's let all the crack heads nick the toys and sell them for a quick fix

WTAF!!

You were too tight to put your hand in your own pocket - you didn't feel that bad about families in hostels!!! - so decided to make a thief of yourself in the name of being charitable, and then come on here to boast about it?

I do hope there's some honesty and integrity in your Christmas stocking.

Calm yourself down dear! Me and my family were in a women's refuge for a long while. You know nothing. Carry on in your perfect little life!

No sarcasm! Balls to the supermarket. They can cover it with the extra money they make from bloody Lurpak!

It's a scummy, thieving thing to do.

And blaming "baby brain" is even more disgusting and reprehensible.

Only lowlife do such things.

Not enough to become a common criminal no.
However, as your post is a work of fiction then it doesn't apply

If you felt that sad you'd buy the toys and drop them at this hostel yourself.

This. You felt bad, but not bad enough to put your hand in your own pocket. Just bad enough to put your hand in somebody else’s till, and then come on here like you’re Robin Hood saving Christmas for the poor and needy. Cringing for you.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 25/12/2023 05:10

This is strange logic. I can afford a few extra quid on my shopping.

The families who can't are the ones you are trying to 'help' by putting stolen goods in the box for. Those stolen good will push up grocery prices for those who can least afford it. So really, all you've done is contribute to hurting the families who need help the most.

Ah so you’ve set it up so that the charity collectors steal instead. Amazing. Do you actually think they want what you’ve done? Has it not occurred to you that all you’ve done is jeopardise the future of such initiatives?
