Was I unreasonable to do this?

So..done my usual supermarket shop this evening and noticed the food/toy donation trolley looking a bit bare.

I paid for my shopping as usual, then went back round the aisles and picked out two toys worth around £10 each and put them in the bank (didn't pay)

Supermarkets make a huge profit and felt sad for families in hostels etc this Christmas!

So you shoplifted but what us to justify it for you, nice...

Goodlard · 22/12/2023 05:31

I'm not sure I believe that you did this? Honestly, you thought you were a good person to steal?

Shoxfordian · 22/12/2023 06:08

You're probably on cctv doing that nice little bit of "charity"
Hope it doesn't come back to get you next time you go there

I'm flabbergasted by how upset people are getting. I think it was genius 😅

I assume you've never worked in retail and had to give reasons for a poor stocktake result?

SophieJo · 22/12/2023 06:11

You seem very proud of what you did-stealing from the shop.

determinedtomakethiswork · 22/12/2023 06:14

Ignoring the fact that you're actually stealing, and pretending it's a gift, the reason the stock will be low in the trolley is because it's been taken to the food bank or wherever to be given out to people. There's no point in donating at this time.

kimchio · 22/12/2023 06:17
  1. It probably looked empty as it gets emptied through the week. Especially coming up to Christmas they'll want to get the donations out to the families rather than wait til the last minute.
  1. You're meant to buy them to help people who can't afford to buy them. The charity and the family now have stolen goods...merry Christmas...

It was also probably looking bare as the majority has been collected by the charity to ensure the kids have something by Xmas day. They will have left the collection out for last minute donations

BCBird · 22/12/2023 06:17

Unreasonable

kimchio · 22/12/2023 06:18

KissyMissy · 21/12/2023 22:59

Ok ok I get it, I'll take that one on the chin I was being unreasonable and will make an additional payment to my local charity. Thanks guys

No you need to make the payment to the shop

JanglingJack · 22/12/2023 06:18

🤣 How very generous and Christmas spirited of you. Not.

How did you get past the tills and staff with two toys in your hand? Or did you spread the goodwill by sticking them inside your coat.

Nuts, completely wrong and you have shown no generosity at all. I guess you can have a slow hand clap if you were expecting one.

kimchio · 22/12/2023 06:18

KissyMissy · 21/12/2023 22:54

Not stealing as technically never left the store! I make monthly donations to charity, plus the items didn't have the tags/stickers on 😊

Are you having a laugh

I know! I mean why on earth would they let it all pile up til the last moment?! Bonkers

Haha yes, harbouring stolen goods thanks to OP!

cranleighma · 22/12/2023 06:25

@KissyMissy unreasonable and very thick

Jifmicroliquid · 22/12/2023 07:00

This forum never ceases to amaze me when it comes to strange behaviour!
YABVU.

Holidayhell22 · 22/12/2023 07:06

You do know the cost of your shoplifting will be born by the customer. They won’t bump up the price of toys or other non essentials either. It will be the cost of basic goods which go up. This means the working person yet again has to suffer.
Well done.
Plenty of people donate toys and other Non essentials to charity. It’s these people who always suffer at the hands of people like you.

user1496146479 · 22/12/2023 07:10

You need to pay the shop back! Hmm

cranleighma · 22/12/2023 07:13

@Holidayhell22 it appears that @KissyMissy doesn't understand the facts and reality and just did a sad face and ran off to pinch some toys. The poster who commented 'genius' is also a bit hard of thinking.

If you want to be charitable, you need to be bright enough to grasp that it's giving your own belongings.

SutWytTi · 22/12/2023 07:18

This action was very unwise.

This has just put you and/or the charity at risk of comeback without any chance of changing the bigger picture you claim to care about.

I think you should go back to the store, claim it was a 'mistake' borne of tiredness/absentmindedness and pay for the toys.

jojom10 · 22/12/2023 07:20

You're a thief. People like me are having to pay more because of people like you. Delusional and arrogant.

Funkyslippers · 22/12/2023 07:23

Either you don't really understand how the donation point works or you're really pathetic. Either way it beggars belief

SparklyMularky · 22/12/2023 07:24

It's not right but it's ok. Fuck it! They'll never work it out, they do make obscene amounts and you will have made someone's Christmas.

Allfur · 22/12/2023 07:27

I agree, it's not that bad

AnneValentine · 22/12/2023 07:29
