Trans women do not have periods.

According to period pants maker Modibodi, transwomen can have 'periods'. Periods which are just as valid apparently.

Whilst I'm not going to suggest I know what hormone treatment tied to a trans woman, I can confidently say that no, they don't have periods. Periods involve blood. Trans women don't bleed.

Modibodi seem to acknowledge that there is no bleeding involved I transwomen's 'periods' but bizarrely under a section on how to manage their periods, trans women should wear period pants. For the life of all God's WHY???! Wtf would wear period pants if they didn't have to?

A woman who has taken enough male hormones to be able to grow a moustache will most certainly not be having periods anymore.

Yes testosterone can stop periods but not all people take testosterone some (like my friend) identify as male and still have periods so pads/tampons/period underwear are needed

Modibodi owned by Essity , massive Company in the hygiene products sector, have a look at their other brands

DragonMama3 · 19/12/2023 18:58

Why would anyone want to menstruate? Shouldn't that be womenstruate?

Mornusting · 19/12/2023 18:54

They are saying on their website basically that "some trans women will have effects of hormones that they take".

🙄What I am saying is that while that may be the case it doesn't cause them to bleed so NO NEED TO WEAR PERIOD PANTS AS YOU DON'T HAVE A UTERUS FOR GOD'S SAKE!!

"Do trans women have periods? Many trans women have periods. Some trans women don’t have uteruses, so they won’t bleed as part of a monthly menstrual cycle. But the hormonal experience of menstruation can still be very real."

It's all just nonsense, isn't it?

A trans woman bleeding from their neo vagina needs A&E, not period pants.

They can have my endometriosis if they want the full experience. FFS, what a load of nonsense.

There are ones for transmen where they can add a "packer" which is fair enough.

Well, I think it's a shame we are not looking at what is happening to make women do this to themselves?

What are they trying to run away from, is it the toxic stereotypes of femininity?

No one will really believe they are men any more than we believe trans women can have periods?

The message is just toxic, it is part of a culture that is leading young women to have radical double mastectomies, and for what reason? It doesn't make them men, no one can change sex.

Gender is just so harmful. Nothing positive for women.

CranfordScones · 19/12/2023 19:06

Totally agree, but...
It may be the result of, or an attempt to head off, a social media onslaught by the incessant bullying zealots with an huge axe to grind. These brands aren't really the problem.

CatMadam · 19/12/2023 19:08

Boring transphobia in the thread aside -are you sure they aren’t talking about trans men,
who often do have periods depending on where they are in their transition/if they aren’t transitioning fully?

DragonMama3 · 19/12/2023 19:08

The irony...

From that link

How to support trans women during their periodBeing a good ally to trans women during their period means being respectful, understanding and supportive. Here are some key ways to be there for them:

  • Be kind towards the trans women in your life, and acknowledge their experience as women. Respect their names, pronouns and bodies.
  • Create a safe space for them to share their feelings and concerns. Sometimes, all we need is a friend who gets it, so listen with an open mind and heart.
  • Educate yourself about trans experiences, including menstruation, and help correct misinformation. (TransHub, Twenty10 and local LGBTQIA+ community centres are good places to start.)
  • Avoid asking invasive or personal questions that may make someone uncomfortable.
  • Practice patience and empathy. Remember, everyone’s experience is unique, so it’s always better to ask questions than make assumptions.

So women are being told to 'be kind' to trans women with their fake periods?

Unbelievable.

Modi bodi can do one.

What the actual fuck??

Yet this isn't cultural appropriation because.....???

Fucking hell. Although I can't boycott them because my income means I switched to cheaper period pants a long time ago.

If you'd read all the boring transphobia in the thread you'd know the answer to that question.

ok i'll bite, where is the transphobia?

Or, do you believe that trans women have periods and that women should be told by modi bodi to be kind to trans women when they have their periods?

How some trans women get their period

Menstruation is a part of many people’s lives. Find out how some trans women get their period and how you can be a supportive friend.

Doesn't look that way, since it says the above.

Because the company can make money 💰 the only reason they push this ideology

You are not looking at the whole website.

www.modibodi.co.uk/blogs/womens/transwomen-period#:~:text=Many%20trans%20women%20have%20periods,the%20form%20of%20feminising%20hormones.

Clearly discusses trans women and their 'periods'. They acknowledge there is no bleeding involved. They then suggest wearing period pants ...

Yes sorry I have now found this link - modibody are saying one moment a period is the womb shedding and the next moment it’s possible to have a period without a womb. Was just about to spend a fortune on new period knickers from modibody but will go elsewhere now. It’s a shame because we liked their products. I am all for people living their authentic lives and modibody selling products for transmen who menstruate (makes sense they might want something less feminine). I also have no issue with modibody products for transwomen who want to keep their bits in (why not if it’s a good option that works for them) - but if a period pant company is trying to say someone without a womb needs period pants for menstruation - not only is it blatant false marketing - but more significantly it’s contributing to disturbing move in society to try and change the narrative around a biological woman’s body and needs.

Every call on something doesn't make you phobic about it. Disciplining children doesn't make you abusive. Criticising acts by the state of Israel doesn't make you antisemitic and being outraged at period pants being promoted to transwomen and suggesting they have periods when they don't isn't transphobic.

Women have periods. Biological women and not all of them. But no trans woman has a period. It undermines the real issues women who have periods have to deal with.

Female women can be trans women too, can't they? People who are happy to call themselves women but don't feel they have a gender identity?

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 19/12/2023 19:16

Be inclusive to the detriment of women (the ones with vaginas) is absolutely not fine. Sick of this shit.

DragonMama3 · 19/12/2023 19:16

I think they'd be a transman?

DragonMama3 · 19/12/2023 19:17

@popebishop isn't that non-binary?

missmollygreen · 19/12/2023 19:17

Flickersy · 19/12/2023 18:20

That just says "by all people who menstruate". So women - some of whom will identify as trans men.

Not trans women.

But then how would they be so outraged??

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 19/12/2023 19:18

Didn't take long for the accusations of transphobia to be thrown out. Yawn. What is transphobic? I'll sit in the corner not holding my breath as that never gets answered on here.

CaramelMac · 19/12/2023 19:19

Well at a stretch I imagine if you have surgery to invert your meat and two veg there might be some discharge or bleeding (if you rip a stitch)?
