Trans women do not have periods.

According to period pants maker Modibodi, transwomen can have 'periods'. Periods which are just as valid apparently.

Whilst I'm not going to suggest I know what hormone treatment tied to a trans woman, I can confidently say that no, they don't have periods. Periods involve blood. Trans women don't bleed.

Modibodi seem to acknowledge that there is no bleeding involved I transwomen's 'periods' but bizarrely under a section on how to manage their periods, trans women should wear period pants. For the life of all God's WHY???! Wtf would wear period pants if they didn't have to?

These are obviously aimed at transmen, not transwomen. It says, « people who menstruate ». Transmen will sometimes still have periods. I don’t see what your problem with it is. YABU.

You missed the bit where they describe trans women periods and ask women to be kind to trans women on their periods then?

Scroll back upthread. It's been posted several times.

Daftolive · 19/12/2023 18:38

It’s just so odd. Unless you’re worried you might be pregnant and you really don’t want to be, who actually wants to have a period? The bloating and mood changes, the mess and pain and inconvenience. It’s why contraception that stops periods is so popular.

zaazaazoo · 19/12/2023 18:39

@Luxell934 before calling people stupid perhaps you should learn what a trans woman is. These are being marketed trans women. Not transmen.

Do trans women have periods?
Many trans women have periods. Some trans women don’t have uteruses, so they won’t bleed as part of a monthly menstrual cycle. But the hormonal experience of menstruation can still be very real.
Some trans women undergo gender-affirming treatment in the form of feminising hormones. These hormones can result in a range of physical and emotional symptoms, including:
• Anxiety
• Appetite changes
• Bloating due to water retention
• Cramping
• Tiredness and fatigue
• Listlessness
• Mood swings
These symptoms may occur at the same time each month, just like premenstrual syndrome (PMS). For many trans women, this is their period.
Having a period feels totally normal and fine for many trans women. Some even find it deeply cathartic and validating. But if your period symptoms are upsetting you, chat with your doctor about adjusting your hormonal regime so that it doesn’t trigger a noticeable cycle.

This is absolutely bizarre. So basically it's saying they want to have PMT style symptoms because it makes them feel more like a woman? Wtf

Coconutter24 · 19/12/2023 18:28

If you look at the advert it’s obvious they are aiming them at trans men, trans men have periods. It says nothing about trans woman.

A woman who has taken enough male hormones to be able to grow a moustache will most certainly not be having periods anymore.

MargotBamborough · 19/12/2023 18:40

I would like trans women to be kind to women who are on their periods by not using women's toilets when women are already inadequately provided for compared to men, largely because we have extra bodily functions to deal with such as, er, periods.

Delphinium20 · 19/12/2023 18:41

YANBU. TW do not have menstrual periods because they are male and do not have female anatomy. People who say otherwise are simply having a period of delusional thinking. Let's hope it passes soon.

We love modibody but was prepared to change brands after your post until I read the website - clearly says pants are for people who menstruate.

You are not looking at the whole website.

www.modibodi.co.uk/blogs/womens/transwomen-period#:~:text=Many%20trans%20women%20have%20periods,the%20form%20of%20feminising%20hormones.

Clearly discusses trans women and their 'periods'. They acknowledge there is no bleeding involved. They then suggest wearing period pants ...

JFC they are now trying to gaslight us with this crap.

I've been a fan of their product as Dd14 is autistic and these really work for her.

But I will not spend one more penny of my hard earned cash on a company that is willing to gaslight me.

I've had enough of this shite.

Yeah it also encourages people who actually menstruate to be kind to trans women when they are on their periods.

lifeturnsonadime · 19/12/2023 18:23

Yes you're right about that link. BUT language has become so mangled by genderists that it is no wonder that some women think that this means they are being targeted at trans women.

Then there are the trans women who claim to experience periods - as this is also on the modi bodi site

https://www.modibodi.co.uk/blogs/womens/transwomen-period#:~:text=Many%20trans%20women%20have%20periods,the%20form%20of%20feminising%20hormones.

That link is one of the most bonkers things I have ever read. It’s full of lies.

Some trans women don’t have uteruses . Where in reality literally no TW do.

They say women get PMS at the same time each month, whereas we don’t. This is a company specializing in menstruation products which is lying about how we experience menstruation to make it fit male people’s experiences of life long artificial hormone dependency.

They lie about symptoms some TW say they experience by claiming this is menstruation.

It’s all utterly bonkers lies.

Daftolive · 19/12/2023 18:44

Kudos to their sales team for selling period pants to people who don’t have periods.

jeaux90 · 19/12/2023 18:44

"Be kind"

It's middle class for STFU

Saggypants · 19/12/2023 18:45

Ugh. Annoyed that I ordered from them recently. I won't make that mistake again.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 19/12/2023 18:47

Well if course they don’t, it’s biologically impossible but companies have found a way to cash in on their insecurity. Tbh it’s pretty disgusting preying on their mental health condition as a way to make more money.

But it's more than that. It is literally asking women to 'be kind' and to validate their delusions.

zaazaazoo · 19/12/2023 18:49

Modibodi are perpetuating the idea that the hormonal fluctuations and difficulties that arise from taking hormones is the same as a period. Even through there is no blood. They are saying a period is more than just the bleeding. It's the mood swings etc. on that case, menopausal women are also having periods because god knows our hormones can still fluctuate after our menstruation stops.

Menstruation is the shedding of the menses. Bleeding.
Period is menstruation.

Feeling a wee bit hormonal is not the same thing as a period.

No one who doesn't bleed needs sanitary protection for bleeding

Wtf would wear period pants if they didn't have to?

Perverts and fetishists.

Alargeoneplease89 · 19/12/2023 18:51

I hate periods and don't feel very feminine having one and there are plenty of women who don't have periods, it's ridiculous to think a period makes you more of a woman and why trans feel like they need to valid themselves by having one shows you it's a fetish especially when the majority still have a penis.

Mornusting · 19/12/2023 18:54

They are saying on their website basically that "some trans women will have effects of hormones that they take".

🙄What I am saying is that while that may be the case it doesn't cause them to bleed so NO NEED TO WEAR PERIOD PANTS AS YOU DON'T HAVE A UTERUS FOR GOD'S SAKE!!

"Do trans women have periods? Many trans women have periods. Some trans women don’t have uteruses, so they won’t bleed as part of a monthly menstrual cycle. But the hormonal experience of menstruation can still be very real."

Struggling to feel any sympathy for people who are feeling a wee bit hormonal because they have been taking unnecessary hormones for non medical reasons tbh.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/12/2023 18:56

As the old saying goes….’only women bleed’.

Mumwithbaggage · 19/12/2023 18:56

I also assumed from the photo that it was for female to male transition. Equally a great design for girls who like sport.
