Trans women do not have periods.

According to period pants maker Modibodi, transwomen can have 'periods'. Periods which are just as valid apparently.

Whilst I'm not going to suggest I know what hormone treatment tied to a trans woman, I can confidently say that no, they don't have periods. Periods involve blood. Trans women don't bleed.

Modibodi seem to acknowledge that there is no bleeding involved I transwomen's 'periods' but bizarrely under a section on how to manage their periods, trans women should wear period pants. For the life of all God's WHY???! Wtf would wear period pants if they didn't have to?

They’re aimed at “people who menstruate” aren’t they?

Not sure why “all gender” underwear has to be shaped like traditionally male underwear… surely all their underwear is all gender underwear!

That just says "by all people who menstruate". So women - some of whom will identify as trans men.

Not trans women.

Yes you're right about that link. BUT language has become so mangled by genderists that it is no wonder that some women think that this means they are being targeted at trans women.

Then there are the trans women who claim to experience periods - as this is also on the modi bodi site

No, they do not have periods.
I had a hysterectomy and am now on hrt, and there are affects of this, but they are not periods , because there is no womb.
I think it becomes offensive when women are accused of gatekeeping periods.
I just think, it really diminishes things like endometriosis (which i suffered) , and certainly makes me feel like people are trying to say period pain can be surmised as slight cramping and a bad mood.
I used to regularly pass out from the pain. And, later when i gave birth, and found the pain to be akin to labour contractions.

It actually says

Well, trans is a term that can describe people whose gender differs from what was presumed for them at birth. A trans woman is someone who is a woman and who was assigned male at birth

Then says

Some trans women don’t have uteruses.

Seriously.

From that link

How to support trans women during their periodBeing a good ally to trans women during their period means being respectful, understanding and supportive. Here are some key ways to be there for them:

  • Be kind towards the trans women in your life, and acknowledge their experience as women. Respect their names, pronouns and bodies.
  • Create a safe space for them to share their feelings and concerns. Sometimes, all we need is a friend who gets it, so listen with an open mind and heart.
  • Educate yourself about trans experiences, including menstruation, and help correct misinformation. (TransHub, Twenty10 and local LGBTQIA+ community centres are good places to start.)
  • Avoid asking invasive or personal questions that may make someone uncomfortable.
  • Practice patience and empathy. Remember, everyone’s experience is unique, so it’s always better to ask questions than make assumptions.

So women are being told to 'be kind' to trans women with their fake periods?

Unbelievable.

Modi bodi can do one.

They state all people who menstruate, not trans women. They are also suitable for those with bladder issues too. Being inclusive is fine

I mean no trans woman has a uterus because if they do then they are not a trans woman.

I'm not sure that Modi Bodi knows what it is talking about.

Luxell934 · 19/12/2023 18:19

Yes. This. Why are people so stupid they don't realise this?

Do you feel a bit stupid now that you were wrong?

Coconutter24 · 19/12/2023 18:28

If you look at the advert it’s obvious they are aiming them at trans men, trans men have periods. It says nothing about trans woman.

DrivingonIce · 19/12/2023 18:28

Good lord, they might as well have ordered us to Prepare the Dressing Gown of Doom.

It also tells women to be kind to trans women during their periods or have you missed that bit that is posted several times upthread.

I'm all for inclusion of all women. But males do not menstruate.

CagneyAndLazy · 19/12/2023 18:28

They can fuck right off!

Daftolive · 19/12/2023 18:29

It’s insane. Hormonal fluctuations are not periods. That’s kind of the point of menopause- lots of hormonal fluctuations without periods.

gotomomo · 19/12/2023 18:30

But their products are good for weak bladders which are a unisex problem anyway. They save me a lot of embarrassment and money on disposables, not to mention landfill

Daftolive · 19/12/2023 18:32

Anyone who has periods needs some form of protection. No one has a problem with trans men, who have periods, needing period pants etc. Saying that people without ovaries or a uterus can have periods is just delusional.

so you are ignoring the bit where they are telling women to be kind to trans women during their period?

Do you believe that trans women have periods?

Do you think that women should be told to be kind to males who are lying about these things by a company which produces sanitary products?

What does that have to do with weak bladders?

A weak bladder might be a unisex problem, but given that over 90% of trans women still have a penis I can't imagine that any of these pants would fit well enough for that purpose.

VolvoFan · 19/12/2023 18:33

Because it validates their thinking that they're a woman.

We live in clown world.

FranticHare · 19/12/2023 18:34

I would suggest there are a number of adults who need to go back to school to study basic biology.

Pomegranatecarnage · 19/12/2023 18:36

These are obviously aimed at transmen, not transwomen. It says, « people who menstruate ». Transmen will sometimes still have periods. I don’t see what your problem with it is. YABU.

zaazaazoo · 19/12/2023 18:37

@Flickersy @SapphireEyes88 definitely aimed at trans women not transmen
