I booked to go to a theatre show for the team I manage for our Christmas night out. We all agreed on the show and I'm sure they would have all been aware of the cost when they looked and agreed on the show.

I was expecting them to sort the money out that night and transfer the £20.

not one person has mentioned the money.

If your boss had booked a show for a Christmas night out would you assume it was a present or would you have been like “thanks for booking, here’s the cash”

@RallySooney Is it a profitable business?

Definitely not...

MsJinks · 18/12/2023 19:36

I never expected manager to pay when they organised a meal out - and I have always been right lol! I do buy pizzas in the office, or a drink if out, as a manager myself, but I do get some checks I’m doing that and/or thank yous. I know you agreed you were maybe not clear enough but I’m not totally sure it wouldn’t be more reasonable to expect staff to ask how to pay or say thank you - I wouldn’t assume that but if the night was free if it had been me.

I think that update was quite crucial info! I’m wondering if you struggle with making things clear OP? So someone else suggested the night not you. Did they suggest the theatre?. Someone else booked the restaurant and at the end of the meal you all split the bill? Or paid her?

If this is the way it happened then I think you could say ‘thanks for sorting the restaurant Sally - did we all cover the food ok between us? Wouldn’t want you out of pocket. Theatre tickets were £20’ and leave it at that.

TeenLifeMum · 18/12/2023 19:41

You can always add that you’re happy for anyone who needs to wait for party day to do so (we get paid on 22 December in our nhs trust)

Okay. Missed that it's NHS. Obviously not profit making.

TeenLifeMum · 18/12/2023 19:43

Totally missing the point but are you like managing as a band 4 or are you earning 25k because you’re part time? If it’s option 1 then your organisation is taking the piss.

Beautiful3 · 18/12/2023 19:45

If you wanted to test the waters, I'd message everyone saying, "I really enjoyed the show. Please send £20 to x account." Even if only half pay, it's worth it.

where on earth do you get paid to go on works do. I’ve always paid and never got anything free

I work in Education and have always paid for nights out. DH is high up in private sector company., their works do is always paid for by the company. They also have food vouchers for those who need, free sanitary products and hampers for every staff member ar Christmas
Its another world.

Joyjoy90 · 18/12/2023 20:12

If you're the boss the assumption is that you're paying or that the company/department/whatever is giving you funds for a Xmas do. It must be SO awkward now! Could you cope with covering it this year and then being more clear next year when you book?

Yep covered now and all good today. Everyone just laughed at some things that happened and how drunk we were.

just chalked up to experience

I take it on the chin that I wasn’t clear enough. I’m new to this, struggle with my mental health and low mood and it’s just been grating on me but I feel better that it was my fault and I know to be clearer next time

Sorry to hear this OP but from previous work events, I never booked until payment was given and it was clear that X was paid before a date so it could be booked.

escapethemaze · 18/12/2023 20:17

i reckon you’ve been in a right arse with your team ever since this night out!

Lochness1975 · 18/12/2023 20:25

My company has always paid for an overnight stay, meals and manager covered drinks. I’ve only paid for 1 Xmas works do.

You really are a nasty piece of work, aren't you? This is the third thread I've seen today where you have gone out of your way to make the OP feel bad about themselves. Get a life.

I usually donate to food bank but that’s my donation to society this year. If they thought I was buying why not say thank you

Not saying "thank you" at the very least is quite rude and very entitled behavior. I'd be sure to give them what they deserve next year; diddly and squat. No trips, no gifts, no treats. If they ask, tell them it didn't seem appreciated last year so you figured no one really wanted anything.

Dixiechickonhols · 18/12/2023 21:50

No one saying thank you makes me think they are unaware you’ve funded it from your own pocket.

Nanaof1 · 18/12/2023 21:51

escapethemaze · 18/12/2023 18:41

no but pretty funny i thought!

Yes, you seem to think you are very witty and amusing. I guess you forgot to cash your reality check because you are neither amusing nor witty.

Just rude and crude and I am betting "one of THOSE employees".

If my boss said let's go to this show for our team Xmas do and then booked the tickets I'd 100% be expecting them (the boss) to pay
