I booked to go to a theatre show for the team I manage for our Christmas night out. We all agreed on the show and I'm sure they would have all been aware of the cost when they looked and agreed on the show.

I was expecting them to sort the money out that night and transfer the £20.

not one person has mentioned the money.

If your boss had booked a show for a Christmas night out would you assume it was a present or would you have been like “thanks for booking, here’s the cash”

If all the team have omitted to ask about payment I think you haven't been clear and they dont realise you have paid personally. They were probably waiting to be told the cost and how to pay, as you didnt tell them they have assumed it wasnt expected.

Although it isn't a thing that staff xmas outings come out of NHS funds, it could have been assumed that the theatre were offering heavy discounts for NHS parties, or that one of the staff welfare charitable funds had paid. They certainly paid for "treats" during covid for some staff.

What’s funny about it? I can spend my money as I see fit. Why would that bother you and why are you so interested.

How was it decided that you'd all go to the event? Did you suggest it? Do you have the email if so?

12 pages in but OP won't answer relevant questions like this, she just keeps asking why they didn't say thank you 🤔

Helluvawomen · 18/12/2023 18:45

I take it on the chin that I wasn’t clear enough. I’m new to this, struggle with my mental health and low mood and it’s just been grating on me but I feel better that it was my fault and I know to be clearer next time

One of the team suggested it. Someone booked the food and I said I’ll book the show

Okay, finally some information. So thats very interesting as I'd assumed you had been the one to suggest it. So who paid for the food, did the person who booked it ask for deposits/give bank details or did she cover everyones food? (unlikely)

excelledyourself · 18/12/2023 18:49

No, what you do with your money isn't the point, OP.

I agree you can't go asking for the money now, but if they've assumed it was your treat then they absolutely should have thanked you. And I'm sure some, if not all, have been there long enough to know whether or not the NHS usually fund it.

Let someone else organise next year.

Helluvawomen · 18/12/2023 18:49

That was in response the @escapethemaze who has looked at my past post and says I can afford it

ah, its that old tactic of "this thread isn't going my way so lets say I'm MH or neurodiverse to get some sympathy"

(I'm disabled myself, before I get flamed)

And I see you've conveniently shared some other information about it not being entirely your idea after all

excelledyourself · 18/12/2023 18:52

I know, OP. Their post was irrelevant.

Depends on the job I suppose. I have never had a job where we have had to pay for Christmas night out. And that ranges from jobs where I have earned a lot less than what you and your team are in to a lot more

So if it wasn’t clear and also your colleagues have had similar experiences of having funded Christmas events, then I can understand why it’s worked out like this

This, I have never in my life had a job that pays £25k a year but all Xmas stuff has been paid for.

If my boss made 25k (why would I know that though?) they would still be doing better than me.

I wouldn't be assuming they are super hard up financial peers who where dipping in their own pockets and bankrupting themselves to give their employees a £20 Xmas gift.

What way did I want it go? You all agree with me?

I’ve asked a question, got the point made by people and accepted I should have been clearer.

So why didn't they pay for the tickets on the night then?
I guess without seeing how your message was worded no one can really say, do you think you gave them the impression that it was "your treat" and they did not have to pay?? Because if it wasn't your idea to begin with and they all chipped in for food it does seem unreasonable why they thought you were solely paying for the tickets.

What's you being disabled got to do with it?

Your post is nasty, end of.

I have worked NHS 20 years and always paid for the Xmas do!

Schmusimausi73 · 18/12/2023 19:08

Ha ha no way would I pay to go to a theater with my boss and coworkers. I’d be reluctant even if it was free!

Francheskaivy · 18/12/2023 19:11

When a boss organises a Christmas get together it's a gift. I wouldn't offer to pay

indianwoman · 18/12/2023 19:18

What did you put in your message? Then we can just if it's ambiguous or not

Emptyheadlock · 18/12/2023 19:21

I work in the nhs as part of a small team.

No way would it be expected this was a paid for party.

I've worked nhs for over 20 years and every party has been self funded. We even buy our own tea, coffee and milk!

Janoldermum · 18/12/2023 19:22

We go out as a company every year, usually for a show and a meal beforehand. If the company organises it the company pays for it, why go otherwise. I guess it rather depends on the industry though. Either way it should have been made clear when utvwas first mentioned that the business was facilitating a trip not paying for it

Is it a profitable business? Do these people work hard? I'd say the boss should pay for the tickets, it's a nice gesture and show of appreciation for the workers. It's Christmas after all.

Cheer up, you only make some mistakes once & in the future your career & experience will continue to grow. I think this thread was bit doomed from the start due to lack of infomation about private/public sector work & wether this was a good idea or not. But never mind
