Never liked it. Never will.

Lots of people don't like it, big deal

I'm not a fan of it either

Blessedarethecheesemakerss · 17/12/2023 13:59

A film about workplace sexual harassment, cheating on spouses and male entitlement to the affections of a female just because they have chosen them. YANBU. Richard Curtis is a nob, actually.

PaulaPocket · 17/12/2023 13:59

tennesseewhiskey1 · 17/12/2023 13:39

Don’t watch it then.

Would you say 'Don't read it then' about Mein Kampf?

OrangeWoolCardiWrap · 17/12/2023 13:59

Well. This has triggered a lot of people.

OP posts:
ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 17/12/2023 14:08

I don't think people are triggered. But a thread about not liking Love Actually is one of the most predictable Christmas threads on MN. Maybe in between a thread about hating Christmas Eve boxes and another about not wanting to attend a work Christmas party.

Izit · 17/12/2023 14:13

All Richard Curtis films are cringey.

Balloonhearts · 17/12/2023 14:14

Avatar was overrated too.

petraemerald · 17/12/2023 14:18

I liked a couple of love stories featured. Emma Thompson/Alan Rickman and the woman and her beritger (she was in love with Karl). The rest, no.

The pornography couple, as the reality would have been starkly, horribly different. Not cosy and sweet as depicted.

Andrew Lincoln's story was quite creepy.

The rest is probably just a bit rubbish and in places inappropriate now.

FreshWinterMorning · 17/12/2023 14:20

I picked YABU.

  1. Because I like the film.

  2. Because I don't care that you don't.

The 'it hasn't aged well' brigade' make me like 🙄 YAWWWWWWWWWN!

FreshWinterMorning · 17/12/2023 14:22

Balloonhearts · 17/12/2023 14:14

Avatar was overrated too.

Now that I can agree with. I saw it in 3D at the cinema when it came out in 2009, and the 3D special effects were AMAZING. You were totally immersed in it. BUT, the story was average and it was three quarters of an hour too long.

FreshWinterMorning · 17/12/2023 14:23

OrangeWoolCardiWrap · 17/12/2023 13:59

Well. This has triggered a lot of people.

WTF are you on about? Confused Do you know what people being 'triggered' even means? Hmm

Sartre · 17/12/2023 14:25

Love it personally. Lots of horrible storylines that aren’t very PC so don’t fit today but I still love it nevertheless. It’s super cheesy, just as Christmas should be.

petraemerald · 17/12/2023 14:26

*that should have read woman and her brother! I've no idea why it was autocorrected to beritger.

BIossomtoes · 17/12/2023 14:28

PaulaPocket · 17/12/2023 13:59

Would you say 'Don't read it then' about Mein Kampf?

🙄

TheGoogleMum · 17/12/2023 14:29

Loved it for years but have gone off it in recent years.

Lupin61 · 17/12/2023 14:30

Love it! Can see it hasn’t aged well but I don’t want to think that deeply about it and just see it as a cheesy Christmas film

AllIsWellish · 17/12/2023 14:30

OrangeWoolCardiWrap · 17/12/2023 13:59

Well. This has triggered a lot of people.

Yep, it does every year. What ever you do don't make any negative comments about Alan Rickman 😅

dooneyousmugelf · 17/12/2023 14:31

Woo hoo another Love Actually is Shit thread. Now it's Christmas!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 17/12/2023 14:34

I don't like Maltesers.

ChanelNo19EDT · 17/12/2023 13:09

Have you seen that tiktok @OrangeWoolCardiWrap a guy who is supposedly watching love actually and talking to somebody off camera. He has a romantic expression and is saying "awŵww the priminister is trying to sleep with one of the women who works for him, after calling her fat, awŵw" and he sums up each "romance" in the film in the same way, and they're all inappropriate!

I saw that TikTok this very morning!

Kind of ruined it for me 😭 I like the film and watch it every few years. He is right tho on all points!

And?
I loathe Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman but don't feel that I need to tell people.
We're all different.

You sort of just did...

FictionalCharacter · 17/12/2023 15:06

ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 17/12/2023 13:49

Why do people say this. 'I thought I was the only one who hated X'

Do people genuinely think they're the only one to dislike some mainstream film?

Good lord. I didn’t literally mean only one. This is just a lighthearted chat thread, not an academic debate, as far as I’m aware.
