How often? Settle a debate on what constitutes 'normal' and what's excessive please.

Once a week, when the cleaner comes

BackAgain2023 · 16/12/2023 22:58

'If you don’t have a job it’s 1-3 times a week.

If you raise children and work, it’s when the cleaner comes or when you can be arsed.

I literally could not give a shit when my house was last hoovered.

Is this what women talk about in 2023. So fucking boring, joined onto the troll yesterday who said washing was easy - yep it is but I would still rather not do it because I am not a 1950s robot and my DH does it or I pay for someone else to do my washing..'

you care enough about it to read and post on the thread

Weekly downstairs. Upstairs maybe every 2-3 weeks. We're pretty relaxed. No pets.

Anonymouseposter · 16/12/2023 23:01

As an average I would say, main rooms downstairs about twice per week. Bedrooms and upstairs landing about every 3 or 4 weeks.
I think there's probably a lot of variation from daily hoovering to monthly and, of course, houses with small children and/or pets need more frequent hoovering.

KnottyKnitting · 16/12/2023 23:01

I would say about twice a week for areas of the house that get used a fair bit. But that is my Eufy AKA Bernard. The horrid heavy useless shark upright is used around once a fortnight on the stairs and in the corners/ crevices that Bernard can't reach.

campingmama · 16/12/2023 23:05

Hoover/mop downstairs daily, upstairs and stairs weekly... then scape the stairs and living room fortnightly.

OzziePopPop · 16/12/2023 23:07

Daily, but we have pets and DS is a muck magnet 😂

slithytoveisascientist · 16/12/2023 23:07

Once a week with hetty and as hoc with robot

newusern99 · 16/12/2023 23:08

Quite a few people seem to do the stairs less often.
I’d say our stairs are probably what needs doing the most often

Timeturnerplease · 16/12/2023 23:09

Daily in the school holidays, weekends only in term time. Due to working hours (teacher) rather than any kind of term time vacuum aversion.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 16/12/2023 23:09

Once a week while house. Twice or three times downstairs.

clary · 16/12/2023 23:13

Not RTFT

I hoover every day downstairs - no pets but I think I have an especially messy family as the grot builds up even when we are all at work! Sweep the kitchen and hall floor then hoover it up and do the living room too. No shoes in house.

Hoover stairs and upstairs twice a week.

No idea if this is normal and I don't really care. We are all different. Tho I do wonder about people who hoover less than once a week. I like to walk barefoot without treading in loads of crud.

I would have gone for median rather than mean in this instance.

In my house the part of the sitting room where I sit and make a mess gets done when I can no longer bear to look at it, other rooms that aren't used get done if I have visitors due. I put some decs up today but had to hoover up scores of dead flies first.

I was feeling so alone on this thread about my infrequent hoovering until I read your post.

fallingapart2 · 16/12/2023 21:23

Surely, for those people that do it once a fortnight it must take ages? To deep clean to that level, all the dust and shed hair, both human and pet?
If you do it daily it takes about ten minutes max. I use a cordless Dyson and just run it round every room quickly, doing the odd under the bed or behind this chest of drawers if it hasn't been done in a few weeks. I don't break and sweat and it's not a big deal. But if I left it a week the carpets would be minging with sock fluff and dust and crumbs and dropped bits of crap. I can't imagine not doing it daily, but DP insists that I'm OCD about it. 🤷‍♀️

Ten minutes for the whole house? Do you live in a doll's house?

It takes me ten minutes to find the dollies for moving the furniture, get the furniture onto the dollies, and move it out from the walls in one room.

Desecratedcoconut · 16/12/2023 23:26

Jesus, if you have to hoist your furniture in the air to hoover it, just leave it be, who's going to know?

LemonLight · 16/12/2023 23:28

I vacuum once a week, unless the floor looks grubby to me then it gets an extra vroom. Only mop once every 2-3 weeks. I would do it more but I just don't have the time and energy.

thinslicedham · 16/12/2023 23:31

With heavily shedding dogs whose long fur picks up bits (leaves, twigs) from outside, it needs it every day or two, but realistically once a week is usual for me. Maybe twice if it's particularly bad. I don't have the time, energy, or will to do it daily. We've no babies crawling on the floors, so it's more a matter of aesthetics than necessity.

boobot1 · 16/12/2023 23:32

Several times a day in my house

Mongrelsrbeautiful · 16/12/2023 23:34

Downstairs is daily for me and upstairs is weekly. I'd guess the av. To be weekly.

nobrasfot · 16/12/2023 23:36

Daily. After about half a day it's a horrendous mess from two messy children and oh.

PenCreed · 16/12/2023 23:43

Weekly - no pets, no kids, two adults who don’t spend enough time at home! It would be less often if we didn’t have a cleaner…

Inspirationneededplease · 16/12/2023 23:45

Twice a day for me! Not the whole house but downstairs. Shitty laminate with 3 toddlers. Upstairs twice a week

MasterBeth · 16/12/2023 23:49

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 16/12/2023 20:10

Downstairs daily, except utility which is at least twice per day. Upstairs two or three times a week. We are a shoes off house but my 2 labs seem to ignore that.

Twice per day??! What are you doing in there?

MasterBeth · 16/12/2023 23:50

The what? The dollies? What's a dolly?

Oblomov23 · 16/12/2023 23:50

I would sssume once a week is the norm.
More of pets.

I hoover Dyson once a week. Plus eufy once a week.
