How often? Settle a debate on what constitutes 'normal' and what's excessive please.

Carpets - Weekly - no kids, no pets.

I do sweep the kitchen daily though.

Moonshine5 · 16/12/2023 22:03

Daily but only in high traffic areas 😂

Ewoklady · 16/12/2023 22:03

I hoover and lightly mop the kitchen / dining room most days (it needs it) and I have a cordless and it’s super easy
the hall and rest of house once a week

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 16/12/2023 22:06

2-3 times a day atm with kids off school and an awful Christmas tree shedding needles (never buying from b&q again!!!)

Usually twice a week.

ltappleby · 16/12/2023 22:06

I think once a week is “normal”. I do mine about once a month - hate cleaning.

mrsbyers · 16/12/2023 22:11

Once a fortnight carpets but I sweep the hard floors most days downstairs

MrInbetween · 16/12/2023 22:12

Upstairs once a week (not pets upstairs and no food or shoes upstairs and all hard wood flooring).

Downstairs twice a week with additional sweeping the kitchen and entrance way a couple of extra times a week.

MrInbetween · 16/12/2023 22:13

Oh if I had the time I would definitely do it daily but just don’t.

Ecnerual · 16/12/2023 22:15

Both my kids hate the vacuum cleaner, and the only time I'm not with them is a couple of hours in the evening when they're asleep and I'm not. And they are not good sleepers so I'm not risking the noise.

So, my answer is: nowhere near as often as I should!

If I could vacuum whenever I wanted, I'd vacuum downstairs every day or two, upstairs at least once a week.

The kitchen floor does get mopped every couple of days so we're not complete slovens.

Runnerduck34 · 16/12/2023 22:17

Daily downstairs ( mainly due to dog hair!)
Weekly upstairs
Every household is different just do it as needed

RampantIvy · 16/12/2023 22:28

It takes longer than 10 minutes to vacuum my house. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (hard floors), landing, stairs, kitchen (hard floor), dining room (hard floor), downstairs loo (hard floor), hall, study and living room.

AllAroundMyCat · 16/12/2023 22:28

Daily ( Golden Retriever.)

GuitarGeorgina · 16/12/2023 22:29

Every 2-3 days. Hairy dogs so should do it daily but lack the time or inclination.

EbonyWood · 16/12/2023 22:31

Daily!

stayathomer · 16/12/2023 22:31

For those who vacuum daily without a robot what kind of vacuum do you use. Ours likes in a cupboard (cylinder) and getting it out and plugging it in more than once a week is a big faff. I’ve just bought a cordless shark so started doing it more often but I would never faff around with a bigger machine more than once a week
Henry here too, long enough cord that you only have to plug it out twice or so and you can wind up the cord to go upstairs (dormer so only one bedroom up there)

mrsmacmc · 16/12/2023 22:32

Twice weekly full hoover and as and whens in between can't stand floors being icky

ChocolateCinderToffee · 16/12/2023 22:33

Twice a week by robot. Maybe once a month for the bits it misses.

elm26 · 16/12/2023 22:34

I have a spaniel and a 7 month old and hoover every other day.

boozeclues · 16/12/2023 22:37

If you don’t have a job it’s 1-3 times a week.

If you raise children and work, it’s when the cleaner comes or when you can be arsed.

I literally could not give a shit when my house was last hoovered.

Is this what women talk about in 2023. So fucking boring, joined onto the troll yesterday who said washing was easy - yep it is but I would still rather not do it because I am not a 1950s robot and my DH does it or I pay for someone else to do my washing..

Morewineplease10 · 16/12/2023 22:40

Once a week if no pets. More if have pets.

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 16/12/2023 22:44

Every room is vacuumed every week, but on different days as the dyson only does 2 rooms without the battery needing recharging or filter changing.
It would need to be done daily if we had pets.

ganglion · 16/12/2023 22:47

Not sure on the average but we vacuum daily at least - robot hoover on all three floors. I do the stairs when I notice they need doing, every couple of weeks.

margotrose · 16/12/2023 22:52

We vacuum daily but we have three cats and a dog.

Growing up we had no pets and I'd say it was done every couple of weeks on average, maybe more when I was younger:

Copperoliverbear · 16/12/2023 22:53

Every day, mine at least twice, I have dogs. X

MerryHen · 16/12/2023 22:54

Whenever we're due a visitor 🙈

With young children and full time jobs we just don't have time. We sweep the kitchen every day and have recently purchased a handheld vacuum in a bid to do it a bit more often. Reader, we have not.
