To think (generationally) wealthy people are better looking?

LylaLee · 16/12/2023 06:49

Yes, there are many men who would have married the 'homely' neighbour in order to join land or for alliance reasons.

But very often, a wealthy man 'gets to pick' a beautiful woman. Over several generations, surely this results in a better looking family overall. Whereas we plebs occasionally are randomly good looking, but not in the same way as a family with generation after generation of 'beauty injections' to their gene pool.

A level playing field would be to strip away the make up, Botox, clothes and facials from the more well-off women and compare them to the poorer ones. Just on bone structure, eyes, hair, body, there wouldn't be much difference I don't think.

Models and actresses, chosen for their looks, usually come from fairly ordinary backgrounds.

Yes they might be, but they are usually all tall, thin and have great posture and cheekbones. That is more than half the battle!

Not the Habsburgs😶

Pickles2023 · 16/12/2023 08:42

No. They have more options to improve. Money can buy personal trainers, the best foods, best treatments.

But the wealthy in my region have had so much work done its not attractive at all..
Im talking fish lips, tiny bodies with boobs that could act as a life jacket, and shiny expressionless faces. Its gone past the improved fresh young look.

And no..to whoever said good genetics..not at all. Have you seen the amount of genetic disorders through aristocratic bloodlines..when you only marry in your wealth pool of minimal options you inadvertently muddy the gene pool..thats why diversity is important in nature, it gives the best chances of beneficial mutations and evolutionary adaptions.

Poor nutrition and stress really shows.

I also thing 'good looking' changes to reflect the wealth of the day so if all the wealthy people had short hair and big bears we'd all be cutting out hair short and stretching our ears

IME wealth is usually linked to hard work.

Oh, you poor blinkered soul…

Westfacing · 16/12/2023 08:49

Not necessarily better looking, just look better, for all the reasons already mentioned like health care, teeth, diet etc.

As for class differences - sometimes it just shows. I remember reading about middle-aged twins who'd been adopted separately, one by a WC family and the other by MC. Both had been kindly treated and had led similar lives regarding marriage, children and so on.

It was clearly obvious from the photos who was MC/WC, although both had similar short hair, clothes etc. The MC twin had a more confident smile and ease about her. Just the way it is!

The royal family would be prime examples of this generational beauty then if your theory is true. They’re really not. Not ugly but nothing special or dazzling either. And when I see pictures from society weddings, I’m not hugely struck by beauty there either. The women tend to be thin and that’s about it. You would see better looking women out on the street most of the time.

JaninaDuszejko · 16/12/2023 08:55

Aren’t UK children smaller now than European counterparts. I’m tallish (5ft 10) & in Sweden & the Netherlands most women are my height.

The Netherlands has one of the tallest average heights in the world. And while malnourishment can lead to people not reaching their maximum height, there is still a genetic limit that means some individuals and populatìons will always be shorter than others. The queen was short not because she was malnourished but because her mother was short. And may I remind people yet again there is no achievement or virtue in being tall.

Royal family was inbreeding for generations! You need to widen the genetic pool to get attractive genes going. Notice how island countries always have less attractive population.

Pinkandgreytiles · 16/12/2023 08:59

Royal family are ok looking, hardly stunners though. Kate is beautiful, she knocks spots off the rest of them although of course she's hardly WC

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 16/12/2023 08:59

Cosmetic surgery and dentistry can’t make a person more beautiful. You can try to disguise the effects of ageing, sure, but you can’t become inherently better looking. That’s all genes.

As for richer, posher people having more work done…Love Island.

As I said, maybe not the topmost echelons, who would be marrying for alliances.

But as pp said, more like to upper middle class, say someone whose family has been wealthy since 1800 going to Eton etc. So 7-8 generations of rich men marrying good looking women.

This thread made me want to be rich and beautiful!

Ploctopus · 16/12/2023 09:03

Yes, for sure.

It’s not just that wealthy people are more likely to attract beautiful people (although I agree that’s true in a lot of cases), it’s having lifelong access to the best nutrition, dentistry, healthcare, skincare, hair care, personal training, beauty products, clothes, accessories etc. It all creates a very polished and glamorous picture.

There are obviously lots of hideous billionaires too but even people not naturally gifted in the looks department like Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg look a lot better than they would if they were working 14 hour days in a gas station and barely making enough to buy food and shelter.

Needsomesupport84 · 16/12/2023 09:11

The RF’s hangers on/friends aren't stunning either and I’m not sure they are upper echelons, although some of them might have titles. Also in many countries, KM would simply be considered average. She has expensive styling and grooming and dresses impeccably but she’s not stunningly beautiful and nor are her sister and brother. However, I would say that people like Harry’s exes Florence Brudenell Bruce and Cressida Bonas are beautiful and I think Meghan Markle is too (considerably more so than KM). But many posh people don’t look good.

I don’t know anything about genetics but do two beautiful people = a beautiful child? I mean it must go wrong sometimes

Bruce Willis/Demi Moore progeny

HunterBidensBurnerPhone · 16/12/2023 07:38

Really? The royal family are all horse teeth, chinless wonders. The only good looking members are the commoners who married in.

I think it’s because the commoners just recently moved in. They married title and position before. So Prince William’s children look more attractive than the late Queen’s children.

naughtynine · 16/12/2023 09:14

@SOxon its mean but true.

CatherineStandish · 16/12/2023 09:15

Yes, you can really see this in very wealthy parts of Southern California. The children are all beautiful

Definitely goes wrong. I worked in a social service nursery back in the 80s. Some of the most beautiful children were there and they were there because their parents 'couldnt or shouldn't' look after them. Most parents were hideously poor, special needs or took drugs etc and all had a haunted look about them.

JMSA · 16/12/2023 09:16

Yes. You can generally tell a well-bred person. They have good, strong features.

Exactly, and that's them WITH the best of everything money can buy!

naughtynine · 16/12/2023 09:16

And genes can be very strong. Every single one of Donald Trumps dc inherited his weak chin. Ivanka Trump has fixed hers but you can see it in her daughter.
