To think (generationally) wealthy people are better looking?

LylaLee · 16/12/2023 06:49

Yes, there are many men who would have married the 'homely' neighbour in order to join land or for alliance reasons.

But very often, a wealthy man 'gets to pick' a beautiful woman. Over several generations, surely this results in a better looking family overall. Whereas we plebs occasionally are randomly good looking, but not in the same way as a family with generation after generation of 'beauty injections' to their gene pool.

This whole thread is extremely weird.

Not really, it is a variant on the age old 'nature vs nurture' debate.

I think there is psychology that people often marry people with facial similarities. This might explain horsey looking people marrying each other.

Camilla's ex, Andrew PB was allegedly the inspiration for one of Jilly Cooper's novels and supposedly a looker back in the day. I can't say I see it myself.

Is this why some couples seem to complement each other physically, facially,
so we say they ‘look good together’ when some couples don’t look right together
for the same reason?
Opposites attract too, ie Sophie & Jamie Cullum, who is also, coincidentally, distantly Burmese.

I love Sophie and Jamie as a couple!

Yes, me too. Her last column before they wed, she described him as ‘The One’
Jamie has said that as he didn’t really think he had a chance with her he took her down the pub, which then piqued Sophie’s interest, seeing his insouciance as a worthy challenge.

Anyway, following the spirit of this thread, Ive never seen a photograph of their daughters, who are a fascinating mix, difficult to assess genetic dominance there.

True love will succeed in spite of, not because of, a fine example.

Sophie is very intelligent and ditto Jamie C. Where there is a compatibility of humour and IQ etc, that's as important as the rest, an emotional/intellectual equality. NB: I knew an ex of Sophies', he was the most handsome man I have ever seen in the flesh, classically so.

Piggy, sunken eyes, thin thin lips, puffy cheeks. Plain is the perfect word for her.

Looking at photos like this show that she has lost a frightening amount of weight in the last twenty or so years. Bloody hell.

It's true, actually. In a way, she actually looked better before. She wasn't a beauty then but she still isn't now. At least she looked human and approachable in the before picture, she now looks so stiff and overdone.

SemperIdem · 17/12/2023 20:18

I’ve seen Kate in real life this year, could have reached out and touched her I was that close.

She doesn’t look “horribly thin” or stiff/overdone.

She’s very slim but looks well 🤷🏻‍♀️ is also very good at her job, that is engaging with people and making them feel they’re important to her. As is William. I’m not a royalist by any means but it was interesting seeing them at “work” so to speak.

Miaow. Let’s have a look at you then.

kate is a very attractive woman. She is clearly very fit and healthy. Yes she is slimmer than her youth, but she’s a healthy weight and an attractove woman

why do some women feel the need to bring other women down. Does it make you feel better about yourself?

It is a thread about physical appearance. How do you know she is 'fit and healthy'?

Westfacing · 17/12/2023 21:56

Susan Wright was slender, attractive, yes vivacious, whilst Ronald
was large, lumbering, gruff, unkempt, loud.
Of their two daughters one favoured her father, one their mother,
one was graceless, one moved to Australia

I'd forgotten about Fergie's very attractive mother, and her more attractive sister. All so very long ago now!

User14March · 17/12/2023 22:05

@Westfacing SF’s sister has a look of Princess B.

That is extremely weird.

Yes, I've noticed this too.

I was on an internet forum (not this one) and guys were discussing which famous women they liked. I was surprised at how often what I'd call squared-jawed masculine looking women were favoured over the "softer" more feminine faces. It really surprised me. Plus there are a lot of men who go for the body and not the face.

I notice a lot of models have this look. I think it must photograph better or something.

Switchandflake · 18/12/2023 10:34

I think height, weight, and teeth are big socioeconomic tells these days. Those have less to do with genes though (height is genetic to an extent, but is also heavily impacted by nutrition) and more to do with diet/lifestyle/access to healthcare over one’s lifetime.

That is interesting and very very different from what I observe in my real life.

Giggorata · 18/12/2023 11:19

There is a website devoted to praising square jawed women.
I'm one, so it was quite nice to find it.

Royal family are ok looking, hardly stunners though. Kate is beautiful, she knocks spots off the rest of them although of course she's hardly WC

Kates had teeth vaneers/hair treatments & various weight losses pre-marriage/post kids & remember there was a whole controversy when she posed for a painting & they left her jowls in 😂 so I would call her a 'natural beauty' but she 100% scrubs up really well for a middle class-upper class by marriage woman who takes care of herself

Hmm, I think men that graft often have much better physiques. Give me a boxer over a fat office worker anyday.

Physical labour can be harmful for health as we age. Also, the impact of the environment if you work outside. Wind-swept farmer might be a good look when you're young, but not so great as you get older and ruddier.
